I will probably play Halo 3 and the half dozen year-old-games I still haven't beaten between now and Christmas, and once I open up what will likely be Beautiful Katamari and Orange Box, I'll probably keep playing Halo 3 and the other games I haven't finished until the people I play Halo 3 with stop playing regularly...and since most of them were playing Halo 2 last month, that and XBLA games will probably keep me happy for most of 2008.

The games I know I'm buying are just Zack & Wiki and Smash Bros Brawl. I think I can allow myself a third, but there's too many in the running for this position. I picked my games based on the amount of money I have though, instead of listing titles and then calculating the price.

Also I find this list rather odd, since Guitar Hero is listed for each the ps3 and 360, but not the wii. In general it seems slightly wii-biased. I'm sure Umbrella Chronicles and NiGHTS are on a lot of people's list.

I'm a Cheap Ass Gamer. As such, I haven't seen a need to buy any of the new consoles yet. I'm looking forward to them, but I'm still having plenty of fun playing older games.

For October I'll be spending time with the relatively scary Manhunt, Undying, and King Kong.

Bully and Taito Legends 2 are in the mail. I found a used copy of Double Dash for a great price. And I've still got stacks of backlogged titles to get to, PoP3 and Freedom Force vs. The Third Reich being two notables.

In case this doesn't sound like enough games to keep a person occupied through the holidays, I should cop to the fact that I also play some WoW.

And, as cheap as I am, I did pick up the Orange Box. $45 for TF2, Episode 2, and Portal? And I get to play in the TF2 beta? Sold!

I hardly buy newly released games because of the whole economics issue. I will be picking up Rock Band on release, as well as Mass Effect, but that is about it.

That does not mean that I will not be spending crap loads of money, though. I will probably be buying a ton of stuff that is not full price anymore (I like the $30 and under games). I own 45 different consoles of which I actively buy games for 30+ of them. Suffice it to say, I spend too much on games.

As mentioned, why did you list Guitar hero 3 on the 360 and PS3 but not the Wii?

The Wii version is the only version that has rumble and missed notes' audio coming from the guitar! That makes it a must have on the Wii more so than the other systems. Also, Mario and Sonic? From the previews it sounds pretty stupid.......

I'm so screwed. I guess I won't add any games that came out before today. But my MUST-HAVES aren't that bad. Guitar Hero 3, Naruto: Rise of the Ninja (if the reviews turn out to reflect the awesomeness so far, it's a musthave for me), Timeshift, Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty 4, DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3, Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Mass Effect. So that makes... $510, not bad but that's if I hate everything else and these are only ones I have to buy on the first day which is unlikely at best. If I had a PS3, I would have to add Folklore, Haze, Ratchet and Clank, and ESPECIALLY Uncharted. Which would put me up to $750 without factoring in the cost of actually buying the PS3. I've actually been saving money for this Fall so I actually have way more than enough money left after buying all my must-haves. However, Army of Two, Orange Box (if my friends like TF2), Jericho, Zack and Wiki, Raving Rabbids 2, Mario and Sonic, Quake Wars, and Rock Band could all jump on there pretty easily (except for Rock Band, just too damn expensive for me) which could potentially raise me up to (without PS3 games) $900 which is pretty close to my limit without including Rock Band.

There have been a few good episodes, but for the most part it seems played out. Already got Bioshock, skate and Halo 3.

I'll be getting Orange Box, COD4 and Mass Effect (I know that's a lot of shooters). That's over 430 canadian dollars right there (which has the same value as U$ at the moment).

Otherwise, I might give a try to the Conan game, or maybe I'll just wait for DMC4 to get my action game fix.

I'll probably look at a platformer or party game (have you guys tried the Crash demo? not bad!) or the Simpsons Game, to do something else than shoot people for a change (yes, Brutes and Splicers are people too! ;0) )

I'll probably get Assassin's Creed and Naruto from work too.

It won't be cool to like them until Futurama starts making new episodes again and people can start complaining about how Futurama takes Matt Groening away from The Simpsons and The Simpsons are so much better. That, or when Family Guy gets cancelled (again). Then again, tv show/movie games usually don't do so hot and it's not getting nearly the advertising push as the other games. I'm sure once they start advertising the DVD/Blu Ray versions of the movie you will start seeing more ads for the game. *wishful thinking* It would be so cool if the PS3 version came with the movie in Hi Def */wishful thinking*

I download most games from a warez site (yes, I am a filty pirate), and buy the ones I love (yes, I buy tons of games). Or these with a strong multiplayer side.

I don't feel bad buying one game ($50), but to me seems irresponsable to buy two (I will not add 50+50, because the resulting number will hurt my eyes).

IMHO 50$ is too much for a videogame. Fortunally enough, I have a job, so I can pay this. But has to suck for jobless people :I

I don't plan to load up for the holidays because there's really only so many hours of gaming I can fit into my schedule.
I plan to get Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect for my 360 as soon as they're out and play them in between obsessive Halo 3 multiplayer matches.
I'm going to hold off on guitar hero 3/Rock Band because while there are songs I'm dying to play through, I want to see how they review first.

I'll probably pick up Super Mario Galaxty and Super Smash Bros. Brawl before Christmas, but I don't expect the Wii to get a lot of screening time over my 360 lineup.

Also looking forward to Silent hill: 0rigins for the PSP - and since i'm a brand new PSP owner I have a back catalogue of titles to investigate as well.

That's a nice lineup of games, but I think the definition of 'A-list' here is pretty broad. When I hear 'A-list', I'm thinking:

"Wow, maybe I should buy a [console-name-here] to play that one!"

I'd say all three major consoles have 2-3 exclusive 'A-list' titles coming out this Christmas, which is still pretty good.

That list is somewhat similar to what I'm planning on purchasing during the 4th quarter blowout. There are a few adjustments though...

- Folklore: Most of the initial reviews haven't been kind, so I think it's been shifted to a rental first.

- Army of Two: I rent almost all EA games before buying.

- Virtua Fighter 5: Not a fan of fighters

- Raving Rabbids 2: Didn't really like the first one.

- Mario and Sonic: Definitely a party rental for me.

+ Katamari: Never played the previous games, but got a kick out of the 360 demo.

+ Ace Combat Bundle: I want the flight stick.

I'll buy the crossplatform games on 360. In all honesty, I'm hesitant on all PS3 titles. The hyped new titles this year have come in far under what I've been expecting from them. I don't think I'll buy any on the first day. I still have yet to buy even one PS3 game. I've just been renting instead.

Dismissing the PS3's lineup because "...most games being listed here are going to be finding my way come bargain bin a year from now..." is a pretty stupid way of thinking. You can say the same thing about any systems lineups.

Then you take a shot at the PS3 for *gasp* lowering prices to an acceptable and affordable level for the first time since release. You know, what the detractors have been yelling about all this time.

Since I am buying a laptop in November, I need to limit my selection of games this year. It's cool though, because that means I'll have things to play (Heavenly Sword and such) during the drought next year.

So, I just bought Quake Wars for the PC (will be good on the gaming laptop I am buying for "school," Wink Wink, don't tell the wife,) and I will be getting Assassin's Creed for the PS3. I was on the fence about which system to get it for, but was leaning toward the 360 because of the developers announcing that you would be using vibration to detect how good of a hold you have on the ledge you are currently trying to climb. But with the Dual Shock 3 announcement, I know it won't be long after release when we get it on there too.

One less game I will still be able to play after my 360 goes to game console heaven.

I'm surprised only one person (so far) put the Simpsons game on their list. It's a parody of every game we love, and it was held back from a movie-video game release to make sure it was done right. It comes out mere days before Harvey Birdman does too. I'm getting hit hard here, because those two are titles I need, as well as everything else people have been mentioning (Galaxy, Brawl, Eye of Judgement, etc.)

Like I said in another post here... we'll all still be buying 2007 titles in 2008. Too many are being released at one time. I still want to pick up Oblivion GotY for PS3 too. I'm still getting Uncharted and maybe Assassin's Creed this year. Uncharted looks like it'll be the first big PS3 title given the numbers I've seen so far, but it's hard to say without knowing if it'll have enough marketing yet. A lot of morons still think it's a Tombraider clone. ^^

Budget is definitely affecting my list. Mine has been cut down to GHIII, Ratchet and Clank, and The Simpsons Game. At least I'll finally be able to trade in my PS2 once GHIII comes out, unless I find someone who wants to buy it and I'll be selling my wireless guitar and trading in my wired guitar to go on top of all the trade ins that I have already made. I already have R&C payed off and GH about half payed off not counting my future trades. I should have plenty of time to save up for The Simpsons Game, though. Oh yea, and I need to import some rumble goodness.

The strongest unreleased lineup easily and might be a pick to win the quarter if they stopped playing the SKU shell game with their console.

Wii: Sister has one so I'm bumming off of her and calling it her 'Christmas present'

Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl (@Fahey you really are a huge Raving Rabbids fan aren't you?)

Wii will sell out right to the big day. In typical Nintendo style, you'll only need to get 1-3 games for the system, but the ones you do get will be rockin.

x360: Only one game I need: Mass Effect. A killer app and one that might put alot of Sony's chunkier library full of 6-7/10 score titles to shame. Not sure where you are coming from with saying Xbox has the 'light' lineup this xmas Fahey. Bioshock, Halo 3, and the better Madden will all sell strong well into q4's end.

Ever since I have become a working adult I have always loved and hated this time of year. I not only have to buy presents for the ones I love but I have to fill my video game need. It was funny last year giving my parents a list of video games that I wanted but I knew I couldn't afford to buy them on top of everything else. They told me that they thought they were done buying me "games" especially since I was 29. At least they won't be surprised when I hand them another long list this year.
As for my must have list it would be GH3, Mass Effect, COD4 and possibly K&L however a Wii may make it's way onto that list also.

Don't forget DS, PSP, and PC. Some people have six consoles. Also, the PS2 may still be going strong.

My list is pretty much the same Immel, though you can add 300 bucks onto it for a wii if I can find one for Mario.

Kane and Lynch when I tried it was pretty cool, but I've played hitman and freedom fighters and it felt like the child of those two.

It was neat, but the whole "two guys" thing there wasn't much gameplay around that, I didn't even know where the other guy was in the sea of other henchmen we had. Maybe it's different in multiplayer.

Given these lists, I don't understand why there are rabid fan console wars at all. It looks to me like anyone who has a console will come out a winner by the end of this holiday season.

I heard the PA guys on a podcast describe the reason for console wars being the product of pre-income teenagers who could only afford one console having to feverishly defend their purchase. However, with lists like these I just don't see that argument, as there are goods for any console. Sure, you won't get to experience certain games if you stick with just one console - but unless they're all flops, you're gonna have a lot of fun anyways.

You say that the PS3 has the largest list of titles, but the majority of those are coming out on the Xbox360 and PC as well. I know you don't really care for the platform, but Crysis and Unreal Tournament 3 are coming to the PC this year, and I'd say that's a pretty big deal.

Even if you want all these you can spread out the purchase of these across a couple of months, say, till May. Because there is no way anyone with a job, schooling or half a life could play all of these in the time they are released. My list is much smaller. Having a the PSTWii combo november is gonna be an insane month for me with Mario Galaxy MoH2:H, Assassins Creed, Army of Two and Uncharted... I have the money and the will... just not enough hours in a day.
