I never really liked the guy's games, as I'm not a real aficionado of rally car stuff (except for DiRT, that was decent), but regardless, this is horrible. He was practically a household name when you thought of the sport. And to hear that his 5 year old may have perished as well, that's just heart-wrenching.

There is no motor sport that let's you get so close to the action, so you feel much closer to the stars than watching something fenced off and distant like Formula 1.

Rally drivers have the biggest cojones of anyone in motorsport, and McRae was one of the ballsiest of the lot of them.

I just bought DiRT this week as well, so he was in my mind already.

If you take all the reasonably top tier movie stars just in America right now, you'd get tons... and that's just in America- when you factor in the rest of the world, you get many more, and that's just current day actors, then you factor in all the other types of celebrity- sports players, singers, etc., and when you factor in years and years of celebrities, it becomes hard to keep track of them- Which is why it usually takes me by surprise when celebrities die.
See, for instance, I, being in America and not being a racing fan, can't remember the last time I thought of Colin McRae, his death seemingly came out of nowhere (and it kind of did), but it doesn't make it any less sad...
