i would really like to see a psp only version of VII remade, just for the conveniance, but for the ps3 it would be cool to see the battles progress in HD and with the amazing graphics of FFXIII and what not, but, i don't have my hopes up, and really i'm hoping crisis core doesn't dissapoint me, i really want to play it and have it be great, but.... as short as VII:DoC was, it was just too bad, so, i havn't beaten it yet, hehe.

So I've asked around and a few japanese friends of mine seem to think its real (they think its from a v-jump magazine)

Sigh... I really hope its fake though, Id much rather get an ffVII remake than a sequel (much less a sequel in the X-2 style).

Unless they take the narrative seriously and continue the story explaining what rinoa did with ultimecia's powers.

@Kyouryuu: I couldn't agree more. While I'm not overly fond of FF7 (I find it intensely overrated, mostly), it's certainly not my least favorite of the series. Advent Children is decent if one takes it as it is... completely shameless fanservice, with no point to its existence other than simply to exist.

If one tries to evaluate it on the same criteria as a true film, it falls apart rather quickly. Virtually no plot beyond a bare skeleton (and that huge plot FAQ is hysterical) and ham-fisted directing galore... so it feels more like an extended game cutscene than a genuine movie.

Come on, people, I have better things to do. I'm sorry to disappoint all of you, but "Advent Children" needed and still needs major story help.

If some of these "No talent, no new Ideas" types hanging around the major film studios want a new film that's been done before (as usual) put them on to doing a FF VII update movie that has a story just as good as the one in the game. In other words, hire the people who did the story on FFVII, let them have their heads, and then make the movie like they tell you to make it.

I know, I know. The film industry lives in sheer terror of writers and creative people run wild. (They have ever since "Citizen Kane".) But in this case, any product that comes out would be better by a mile and a half than say, some of the half-witted garbage that fills movie theaters these days, in the USA, anyhow.
The way to get better stories out of games is the self same way to get them out of movies. You have to let the producers (Studios) know that you simply won't accept, won't pay for, and won't put up with dreck where the story ought to be. No matter what popular brand they try to slap on the dreck that they hope you'll be stupid enough to pay for.

FFVIII-2? The premise alone even if it is a shoop of some sorts is enough to make this FFVIII fanboy cry. They've got 10 years left to make more Final Fantasy VII stuff, all I want from that is a Before Crisis port, maybe a VII remake and a sequel. During that time there are a few Final Fantasys that deserve sequels. VIII being one of them with its vague assumption making ending. It was always obvious the Ultimecia was Rinoa, but why? Did Squall live?

I think when you view Advent Children in the context of it being feature length fan service, it's not too bad. Nothing I'd have to see again, but far more entertaining to watch than The Spirits Within.

The best parts were any scene with Reno and Rude. They are the comic relief and the self-deprecating humor, something that TSW sorely lacked.

@Black-Dog-Howls: I'm familiar at least with the first fight you mention. While I mean to watch the rest of the series, I do remember being impressed. It's another series that I know would be "up there". It's funny you mentioned Seirei no Moribito, because I just watched the first few eps of that and was blown away.

Still, neither touch FF:AC. It's hard for me to put my finger on what it is precisely about the choreography and cinematography that so enraptures me; have you seen the secret ending to Kingdom Hearts 2? Because that had hints of what made the action in FF:AC so great (and was made by the same team). I think it has something to do with their liberal take on physics. They make every action seem immediate and important.

As for Uematsu...that's personal taste. I like little bits of the OSTS you mentioned, but they're nothing exceptional to me.

@Chrysalis: First fight between Jin and Mugen. Combination of fusion jazz hip hop and the clash of free form instinct fighter and trained traditional fighter was quite creative. or the Sarah fight where she cuts through the rain creating a small empty space for a brief second in time.

I have to admit that Uematsu doesn't impress me. Not after the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex OSTs, Last Exile, and Cowboy Bebop OSTs.

AC was 90 minutes of fan service with a brief inclusion of remnants of Sephiroth, more or less creating mroe confusion over whom the villain really was in FF7. Jenova or Sephiroth?

@Black-Dog-Howls: Hey, I'll give you that there are 5-6 truly excellent fights in Naruto, and when I think of a list of top 10 IP's with great fighting choreography, Naruto makes the cut.

Advent Children, however, is easily No. 1.

First, the detail of the animation and items being animated is incredible. The characters are stylized, but I think the clothing looks nigh-on photorealistic.

Second, the choreography is imaginative. I don't think choreography has to respect the laws of physics just as long as the work as a whole is internally consistent in the way it handles physics. Thus, we get incredible ideas like the part where one of the baddies plants his fist into the ground, pivots on it, and throws a motorcycle at the protagonist with his LEGS. A second baddie slips under the motorcycle while still fighting the protagonist. Finally, the protagonist slices through the cycle in the midst of his own backwards flip. You simply can't find something that creative just anywhere, and FF:AC provides about 90 minutes of it.

Finally, the execution of the choreography- with its breakneck speed but judicious use of slomo and careful choice of angle is quite perfect.

And while Naruto has a pretty decent soundtrack, FF:AC has one for the ages. Uematsu's original OST was already one of the best in the series, and these re-interpretations are nothing short of breath-taking (quite literally for me).

Naruto the anime is ok I guess. It has that old Dragon Ball Z way of stretching stuff out way to much. I think you have a problem when the first 2 mins of each episode is the last 2 from the previous entry.

Also watching the first Naruto movie made the show a bit worse. As they show what fun it can be when they cut the crap and actually show some solid, uninterrupted action.

@Mongoosekun: I read the manga. I'm already way past that. I'll just wait for Shippuuden to come stateside. It'll probably be out by next fall considering by December Viz will be at Volume 27 starting the post time-skip arc in March.

@shindoki: Someone hasn't been reading Bleach lately.

I can sum up the entire plot through one name and a suffix spoken by the fixture of the entire story seemingly. "Kurosaki-kun." Orihime saying Kurosaki-Kun through each chapter any moment she can is pretty much the entire plot of Bleach.

@Dangeresque: While I agree that Bleach had interesting fights Soul Society has proved to be the only good arc with any sense of direction or explanation.

@Witzbold: Bleach is way more Dragon Ball then Naruto. Everything is done by extension of the character and not magically reaching new heights also incorporating, while not on the mark of a military strategist, some kind of plan. At the same time there is no revolutionary power ups. Then again it could be semantics but as I recall everyone has had a set limit except for things that are technically.. you know... tailed demons.

Just note, read the manga and hardly view the animes.

@Witzbold: Agreed, but I disagree about Bleach. Tite Kubo is turning about to be a surprisingly intelligent mangaka, and, in my opinion, keeping away the dreaded DBZ syndrome with clever characters, plot twists, and interesting powers. The fights aren't too long, and stay interesting. Plus, they don't wait for each other to charge up their kai. That kind of crap always seemed retarded to me.

@Black-Dog-Howls: The proportions out of whack? I think that is a non-issue. It isn't supposed to look real, it's stylized. It's 3d anime, in essence.

And Naruto... meh. It was a cool fight, for the series, but nowhere near set a standard. Bleach has far more interesting fights in my opinion. Byakuya vs. Ichigo (Senbonzakura vs. Zangetsu) was beautiful and awesome. Tensa Zangetsu is still the coolest representation of inhuman speed I have seen.

@poplin: Hate to crush spirits, but that looks faker than a Duke Nukem Forever release date.

@Spidermonkey: I'm not sure why people complain about remakes. If they add something new and fun to the game, there doesn't seem to be much of a problem for me. If they go to the lengths that FFIVDS is reportedly going to, well, I think that's a fun and unique thing; an opportunity to go through a great game with a slightly different perspective, etc.

Now, personally, I wouldn't want an FFVII remake, but that is because I hate FFVII, and not due to any animosity against remakes in general. Might as well hate genres, if we're going down that road.

@Furious_Liver: Depends on the episode and which animation studio did what episodes. Mad House has done quite a few of the better looking episodes, even though they sported a less shiney color pallette though more akin to the manga art style.

There are some pretty stand out fights such as Hokage battle, and Battle at the Valley of Endings. Too bad so much of the animation is done in Korea. More miss than hit which is a darn shame.

If sony wants to sell PS3's they'll pay 50 million development dollars for a FFVII remake. If they're really smart they'll have a followup FFVII-2 or FFXIV or the like the following year, also with a 50 million dollar development budget.

@Chrysalis: Eh... I thought some of the animation was sloppy and motions, along with proportion way out of whack. Did you see how tiny Tifa's wrists were?

I mean hell, if you want something akin to Advent Children just watch the episodes of Naruto with the Battle at the Valley of Endings. They had a good animation team on it.

Or better yet just watch Samurai Champloo. I haven't seen enough of Seirei No Moribito to say either way about the fight animation.

As a 3-D feature length animation I'd agree that there is no equal however as a whole in animation there are loads of stuff that were better.

Or... before jumping to conclusions you could consider that FFVII Crisis Core is a prequel to FFVII and that FFVII continues the story after Crisis Core thus that continued in FFVII has a purely logical answer.

It's in the Kingdom Hearts style and not the Advent Children style, which is shown by the tech demo and FFXIII and vXIII stuff. This matches Agito and KH. The Advent eyes are actually a bit thinner and have bags.

In any case FFVII remake is going to happen. They've still ten years of FFVII to fill up if the world doesn't end in 2012.
