The GC uses full screen--you just have to rotate your TV onto its side. Let me just say that playing Ikaruga fullscreen was used as evidence by my girlfriend that I had gone "overboard."

Sadly I sold my DC a couple years back. Nowadays I wish I hadn't, as I had over a hundred titles for it, about half of which I never even played. Considering how many people never took the DC plunge, I'd say porting titles to XBLA and PSN is a real untapped market. All it takes is a little current-gen polish and most DC titles would be fantastic buys. Sega Bass Fishing, Skies of Arcadia, Grandia II, Sonic Adventure, Zombie's Revenge, and one of my personal favorites, Sword of the Bersek... man there were so many must-have titles for that system.

This is all great and everything, except my roommate has the Gamecube version with freeplay unlocked (difficult to get, trust me), and I was under the impression (I heard it on Kotaku, folks) that the spiritual successor to Ikaruga was coming to Live Arcade, not the actual game. Protip: get/make a custom build controller, the Hori one has a rather strange button setup, B X Y ; A LT RT, when the more logical setup would be X Y B ; A LT RT. And from what I've read, it's so difficult to mod that one would be better off making a new case.

That said, you live in japan, and I don't think they even sell the Hori stick there...

It was very playable with the GC analog stick. I'm still hoping for somebody to come up with a widescreen mount that can rotate 90 degrees.

The Dell comes close except it only rotates clockwise while the GC could only be set in the anti clockwise mode.

This game clocks in at just over 20MB on the DC, so it's a good fit for XBLA. I was about to say Rez would be over, but 150MB would fit it.

Couldn't care less about Rez but this game looks pretty sweet. Screw Attack rated it number two on their list of the ten best 2D shooters and while I didn't agree with with all their choices they got the number one (UN Squadron) right IMHO so I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on number two (at least until I can confirm it for myself).
