		    <description><![CDATA[<P>Well ive had three Xbox 360's in a year and a half.i had one repaired a month after having it,and one replaced after a year,after i found out that the warranty went up to a year!when i got the (new)one i got an apology letter in the letter it stated that they (Xbox)would perform the warranty registration for the replacement console,and cancel the old registration.just so they can tell me that the warranty did not start over with the new console,are you kidding me i am sooo pissed off.the customer support line has a bunch of idiots that keep you on hold forever just to come back on the line and tell you that they need $100. dollars.i have not had the new console but for 6 months!!they really cant get away with this robbery can they???</P> <p>donnafazzingo</p>]]></description>

It won't kill em, you're right, but if thats the standard by which one should determine whats ok to steal, then I should just be taking $1 from every guy I see.  It ain't gonna kill em.  Right?  So its ok then right? Or the "I pay them $50 per year".  Thats a good one too, but not very original.  You do realize that the $50 you pay per year is earned back by the fact that you can buy things closer to/or at wholesale than you could not at a retail store.  You must think it's worth the $50 or you wouldn't be a member. Thats the way price clubs work.  </p>
<p>
You see, people who steal (particularly people who steal small amounts from large companies) always have a rationalization for it.  It's definitely easier to steal $5 then it is to pay $129, even if you have to spend a couple minutes convincing yourself that its ok to steal.</p> <p>subnet6</p>]]></description>

		    <description><![CDATA[<P>So I just got off the phone with XBox Technical Support...my console has been freezing up after a few minutes of play, originally just with a handful of games, eventually progressing to a few minutes into any game, including XBLA games, and what finally broke the camel's back, after a few minutes watching Simpsons on DVD.</P>

<P>If my 360 had broken after they extended the warranty I may have sent it back to get fixed. When I called Microsoft and they told me I had to pay $129 up front just to send it back I was enraged. I take excellent care of my electronics and I know that it was their faulty parts that caused the problem. </P>
<P>If Microsoft wanted to make this process a little easier for everyone, they should send out a replacement 360 right when you call them. When you get it in the mail, you take out the new one and put the broken one inside and ship it right back. </P>
<P>That's what Samsung did for me when my monitor broke and I really appreciated them minimizing the downtime I had to endure.</P></BR> <p>sobjw</p>]]></description>

I am officialy quite pissed off at MSFT... I don't care about the one month of gold live, it is the minimum for me not using Live (because console is away).<br>
So this solves my payment for Live, but what about me not playing my console AGAIN.</p>

		    <description><![CDATA[<P><B>REPLY TO "THE RETURNERS"</B><BR>Wow, what a friggin' mess. I can only imagine what the people in customer service have to put up with. Granted I'm sure there will be times when you get different CSR's or their managers and have a horrible experience but that's most every call center in the country. </P>
<P>I've worked call centers and know that most of them are private entities representing a company so there's little chance that you're actually speaking with "Microsoft" but rather a company that's contracted to take calls for MS.</P>
<P>But what I find almost unforgivable is that people are reporting several returns back to MS. I guess that games must be really worth the aggravation. Me, I couldn't see continuing to support a faulty product. I don't care how great it seemed. And consider this Xbox fanboys: if you're returning the product more than your playing it, is it really worth it?</P>
<P>Although the PS3 is pretty slow going for the PS3 this year I never had to worry about my PS3 blowing up. I've left it on for several days at a time with not one hiccup. And to pay $600 for a premium product with a bright future was a much better investment than having to return a product several times. </P>
<P>I can only imagine what the return rate will be once Halo 3 launches. And what about the "special edition" Halo themed 360. Is that going to be the same crap with a new coat of paint? </P></BR> <p>incredibilistic</p>]]></description>

		    <description><![CDATA[<P>xbox customer support is horrible the fact that they are fixing a defective product for free is not something that they should be recognized as doing something extra for. Its and obligation to fix a 450 dollar item that breaks from routine use at no fault of the owner. I think that the 4$ card is a joke to most people it pissed me off more then anything. I really like this website but this is not a step in the right direction. And if anything you should be reporting on the number of people who recieved a broken refurb, how crappy their customer service reps really are, the fact that there are not enough repair centers in america, or how wen u call 1-800-4my xbox ur on hold more then ur talkin to a person and that u have to talk to 4 diff people that have no power to help u other then to say i can connect u to my supervisor please hold. So u have to explain ur simple problem 4 times <BR>me - "My Xbox is not reading discs." <BR>xbox rep - "Did u check the power cords"<BR>me - "Everything is working except yall sent me back a rebfurb with a broken disc reader"<BR>xbox rep "ok well do u have a cooler fan pluged into it? Because microsoft doesnt make that so it must be whats causing ur rrod"<BR>me - "No i dont have a rrod"<BR>and i have to do that like 6 times.<BR>Then when i finally get to highest level rep he makes all these promises about what he will do to make sure i get a working xbox on my second repair. and i never hear from him again. When i call back to 4my xbox and start over the new top level guy says he cant do anything bout the other guy cuz hes in diff building and he cant do anything with my account becuz the other guy is assigned to it and he can supercede him. <P>I ask because I wonder if the one you're getting back has been freed from the problem that causes the RRoD. If not then it's garbage in, garbage out.</P>
<P>If the systems being returned are not getting the RRoD then that's good as MS is replacing the systems with the problem resolved.</P>

		    <description><![CDATA[<P>On a somewhat related note, I wonder how these cards will work for those that paid for Live with a credit card.</P>
<P>I mention this because I had to fight with Live when I renewed my second year. I signed up the first time with my CC in Jan of 06. On the New Year's Eve for 07, my card was stolen, so I had to have it replaced. About two weeks later, I just went to Best Buy and bought one of the 12 month + 1 free month cards, because I was waiting for everything to get straightened out and for my new card to arrive (and I knew any charges would not go through since it was a different card).</P>
<P>I found out the following month (After my Live service was turned off, even though I had the next 13 months covered on my account) that if you signed up with a CC, they will keep charging your CC, whether you have a pre-paid card or not - that is how it was explained to me.</P>
<P>I went round and round with Live support, explaining that my card was stolen and I wanted to use the pre-paid card I had already entered. I was told I couldn't do that, because I had signed up with a CC. I had to use my new CC to renew my second year, and then ask MS to not use my CC, so (hopefully) next year, my 13 month card from BB *might* take effect for 2008. I didn't make much sense to me, but I worked with multiple CSRs and they told me that they couldn't use the Live card that I entered before my account expired unless they "de-activated" my card first from renewing. I then asked, since I had to renesw using my CC anyway, if I could take that unused (but entered) Live card and apply it to my wife's silver account, and they said I couldn't (I had to try - it kinda bugged me that I had paid for a year for live on my account that they wouldn't let me use).</P>
<P>I bring this up (Sorry for such a long story), because I wonder if people will have to go through what I did for my card when they try to use this free month of Live card; or if it will just renew from their CC one year later and ignore the 1 month card. I'd advise anyone who gets one of these cards to keep an eye on this, or even to call to verify that you won't need to anything special with your CC like I did. </P> <p>plumenoir</p>]]></description>

I dont give a crap about microsoft anymore. My 360 broke, it didnt got to RROD, it just started playing up black and white. Its the hardware cos i checked my cousins box and wires. Anyway, microsoft wont fix it, just sent me crappy advice like using it on a different tv. WTF. Even when taking it into account that they have addmitted online that there console is crap, the insides are made by the cheapest bidder and they have extended the warrenty because of it. But because my console isnt showing the red ring - there not interested. Yes i could trash the thing and make it RROD, but i just dont care about that company anymore. First, many retailers DO put returns back on the shelf, simply because more "defective" returns are simply dumb users and the product is fine.  If it comes back a second time, it's considered to actually be bad and then returned.</p>
<p>
Nevermind that though.  Lets pretend you didn't just screw over a 10 year old on their birthday. You're still STEALING from the retailer.</p>
<p>
You may be surprised to hear this, but that 360 didn't just appear on that shelf to begin with.  It was delivered on a truck.  That truck was unloaed by a paid costco employee.  Then another paid employee put it on the shelf.  Yet another paid employee checked you out when you bought, another paid employee checked it back in for your return, and a final employee scanned it in for return to manufacturer as defective.  All these employees cost money and subtract from the profit on the 360 for costco, which, as well all know, is very small to begin with.  Well, then the new 360 comes to costco, it has to go through the hands of all the paid employees again.  Costco has a cost of doing business based on how efficiently they handle products.  Do to your lazy ass "switcheroo" scam, you have effectively doubled that cost, taking a big chunk of the already small profits. This makes electronics and the return of the a severe liability.  THATS why many companies don't allow returns, or charge restock fees.  Restock fees are not meant to gouge consumers. They are meant to recoup the losses incurred by accepting returns.</p>
<p>
So yeah, if you pull a "switcheroo", the only one you're hurting is the retailer.  You actually HELP microsoft save money by doing this since they don't have to pay all that fast freight charges to individual users or give away free LIVE memberships, or pay customer service people to take your return calls.</p> <p>subnet6</p>]]></description>

I also didn't have any problems with Xbox support.  The girl I talked to was really nice, I actaully shot the shit with her for about a hour. My BIGGEST problem with all this was when Peter Moore was claiming a 3% hardware failure rate, and that that was well within industry standards.  You all know full well that he had the data that stated otherwise, but we were made to feel stupid.  And even when I called the 360 Support Line they were shocked that I was having problems and made me feel like I was the only person to be having such a problem. </p>
<p>
I like to see good console competition, its better for the gamers.  I was pulling for Microsoft but this recent experience has left me so bitter.  <br>

I've had a total of four 360 systems break down over the past year, so, I know the routine when it comes to MS customer service. They first send you a free 1-month Xbox Live Card, (first and second breakdown) and then, they give you a choice between their "Greatest Hits" games. (First time around, I got Viva Pinata). After that, they gave me another game (PGR 3). </P>
<P>
Hopefully, my fifth system won't conk out on me, but if it does, I'm SOOO going to request an upgrade to an Elite. Or at least, a year's worth of Live on their tab. </P>
<P>

I ended up with the choice of a few different titles (off the top of my head, Gears, Viva Pinata, and Kameo), a wireless headset, wireless controller, or an undisclosed amount of points.  I don't know what it takes to get them to pony up the goods.  The employee that offered it to me was outside of the repair center; I'd been escalated a few times. If you've had multiple broken systems though you should definitely push for some sort of compensation.</p> <p>ericbock</p>]]></description>

When my PS2 broke down (or more accurately when I had drunkenly tripped on the controller cable sending the PS2 to the floor, but shhh as far as Sony know the drive had "just stopped working") I rang Sony and the very next day they had someone arrive at my home with a brand new replacement. Now that's customer service. I was so impressed I actually felt a little guilty about my previous trickery, so when the drive on the replacement genuinely did start playing up I bought a new one rather than having it replaced to sort of make up for it. Anyway, point being, 360 owners should get this level of customer service, having to wait weeks doesn't seem to be acceptable, in my opinion. </p> <p>Firenfunk</p>]]></description>

My 360 gave up the ghost this morning during a match of CoD4 beta.  The gentleman on the phone seemed excited when he informed me that I would be rceiving a 1 month gold sub card for my troubles.  I jokingly asked him if I would be receiving 2 seeing as this is the second time in the last year I've gone through the RRoD experience.  Big mistake.  He began to talk fast and lost all composure as he fumbled through broken English about how he wasn't sure but would ask his superior immediately and could I hold for a couple of minutes.  I inadvertently turned my so far pleasant customer support session into an hour of wasted time with periods of being on hold and transfers.  In the end I recieved another apology in less broken English and the promise of still just 1 sub card.  I really just hope I get the accursed system back in time for Halo 3.  Thank god Warhawk came out yesterday so at least I have something to play.</p> <p>DrunkenTrom</p>]]></description>

History will show that many of the great MS unwashed (including myself), were grateful for the token treats (1 month subscriptions, free bubble wrap, roomy cardboard box) tossed to us by our gaming Lord as we struggled to justify keeping a product that was/is nothing but a ticking time bomb waiting to red-ring.  In the not to distant future, there will be two kinds of 360 owners, the 90nm chip-er and the 65nm chip-er.  I just hope that we 90nm chip-ers will be able to sell our 360's to the needy. Maybe to companies researching more effective earplug designs or to help keep the less fortunate warm.  I hear the Nyko is working on an oven and heater accessory for our device. @<a href="#c2277925">Sparx88</a>: i worked for GAME in N.Ireland for a few years. Returns are booked off the system every Wednesday night at a till point for return to the main depot. This includes 'faulty' software that doesnt work. Each barcode on each product is counted and tallied on the system and collected by courier 48 hours later. These machines are indeed sent back as they are still counted as stock in store. Therefore unless the store returns them to the depot they wont recieve any more topup stock. They will be left with an entire stockroom of faulty machines which may as well be good for nothing apart from goalposts. <br>
The manager I worked for (decent enough bloke at the best of times) even used to send back faulty second hand machines as new machines in order to get extra stock in time for christmas. Of course this was highly illegal and for some strange reason which escapes me he still has a job with the company in a regional position. Dont ask me why....</p>

and by the way I now work student hours in Debenhams stock room which gives me ample time to do things like sort through womens clothes, underwear and make occasional daily visits through the lingerie department. I'm thinking a line of free key chains with blinking crimson lights and humorous slogans available at gaming stores, a downloadable 'avoid the red light' xbox live game where you get to play as a lil animated master chief and are taught the proper way to cool your system, maybe a downloadable  'heat map' halo 3 exclusive for people who have had to send their systems in. c'mon big 'soft. make it fun. you haven't done anything fun since windows 3.1 when you included like 100 3.5 discs and i was like 8 years old and we had a big ol' time playin a fab game of hide-the-disc-in-the-drive.</p>

Nothing like having a friend working for SCEA customer service telling you they were instructed to play dumb and deny on the phone to customers that the first model PS2 had no known major problems. Pay and wait the same that 360 users are going through right now. Same problem, different company but at least Microsoft is seemingly being open enough to admit their faults, extend the warranties, apologize publicly and via letter plus compensation. Way more than what SCEA ever did for most - which was pretend the problems didn't exist.</P> <p>TC</p>]]></description>

<P>if they said it wasnt working thats a different story, but people have been known to be dishonest. You could retrun it to the desk, ask for a refund and then go back to the electronics department and get a new one and they wouldnt know. Unless the customer tells them it isnt working then that's about all you can ssume. When you get a return you check the code, look at all the packaging and if everything checks out it gets put back on the shelf. If there was a job to just sit in the back and test out returned electronics I'd be so all over that.</P> <p>Sparx</p>]]></description>

<i>6 weeks</i> after my RROD, I got the same letter pictured above stating <b>"to get you back to playing quicker we sent you a replacement console" (different serial number).</b>    Quicker?</p>

The console I got was 5 months older and scratched up compared to my original.  I appreciate the warranty extension and a month of Live, but I still view it as the <i>minimum</i> Microsoft can do to assuage my troubles with the system.</p> <p>oobla</p>]]></description>

		    <description><![CDATA[<P>I received a similar letter with my third replacement 360 (my first two met their maker within the first two months). Microsoft, however, forgot to include the card.</P>
<P>When I called XBox Support over the issue, "Kevin" told me that they'd send my an envelop for me to ship my defective apology letter back to them. I then asked "Kevin" when I'd receive my apology letter back, to which he once again apologized for the inconvenience and said that while there are sometimes delays, that it would probably be sent back out within 10 business days.</P>
<P>When I got the letter back, it had the subscription card, but when I tried to activate the card, it didn't work.</P>

I asked if he had seen a lot of these to which re replied "oh yeah!". He then tells me to have fun and I reply "I will, there is a lot of good stuff to play in this" and he says he has heard that a lot also.</P>

...But seriously folks, I think Microsoft's "free" month of Live falls far short of making up for the customer's difficulties with RRoD's over the last year and change. At least they could give you a year, which wouldn't be an immediate out of pocket expense for them, instead spread over a year's time. But I suppose that if they went too far to buy back your loyalty, it might be a more public admission of the severe problems that 360's are having, rather than the doublespeak reasons that they've been giving so far.</p> <p>LordMaim</p>]]></description>

		    <description><![CDATA[<P>If you don't wanna wait for you 360 to be shipped off, repaired, and sent back you can go to Costco and buy one of their 360 bundles. </P>
<P>Open it up, take out the new 360, and switch it with your broken one. (Be sure to keep your old hard drive) Box it back up and take it right back to the store and tell them it doesn't work. They will give you a refund instead of just exchanging it. </P>
<P>They don't scan the serial numbers on the systems they sell, so they have no way of knowing if it is the same one they sold you. </P>
<P>I did this when mine broke, which was a few weeks before they extended the warranty length, and it worked perfectly. </P> <p>sobjw</p>]]></description>
