@PapaBear434: 780MB. Whether you buy the Blu-Ray version or download it, you will still need to install 780MB of data on your HDD.

Also, a few things to keep in mind.

-Downloadable Version-
- The PSN Master Account you download it with is the ONLY account you can play it with. No other accounts/subaccounts will be able to run the game. (Anti-Piracy thing. Kind of sucks.)
- The Downloadable version comes without any behind the scenes trailers or extra videos.
- Comes without the Bluetooth Headset.

-Blu-Ray Version-
-Still requires you to install 780MB on the HDD. The game runs from the HDD instead of the disc to make gameplay smoother.
-Comes with extra trailers/video.
-Comes with Bluetooth Headset.

Other than that they are exactly the same.

Oh come off it. The PS forums were full of people who downloaded the game the minute it was released on PSN and had the download finished in 20 minutes, and that was during the rush of the launch. It's only a 780MB download. >_>

Downloaded it. Not my type of game, but still a lot of fun. However, for 40 bucks, there just isn't enough content in this game. Not enough maps, not enough weapons, not enough cars and tanks. This game should be 20 bucks or maybe 30.

And actually, now that I think about it... I have no doubt this game will be sold for half its current price within half a year. It just makes sense for Sony to get as much money from those who are willing to pay it, and then decrease the price to get everyone else.

@NOKS415: Yeah my local Gamecrazy didn't have it yet today. They should tomorrow though. If not- I'll just pick it up off the shelf somewhere else. I assume there will be plenty of them around. Sometimes Gamecrazy supprises me with terrible pre-order service. I had Gamestop help me out of a bind today for my Monster Hunter Freedom 2 pre-order that fell through with Capcom. I'll be pre-ordering with them from now on.

I was all excited and ran to 3 or 4 different places, none of them have it. I refuse to go to EB Games or gamestop....they don't deserve my money. And online, I'm kind of afraid it might turn out not so great, then I'll be stuck with it forever. If I buy retail atleast I can give it to a relative or somerhing if I don't like it. eg. I'm stuck with Tekken 5 for the rest of my ps3 life. In a way I'm glad they didn't have it today...I always rush into these things and regretting it. I will play it first somewhere before buying.

@Sloopydrew: Connection speed has little to do with ping times once you're in broadband area. Which you are indeed in with a 1.5mb line. Distance to server has more to do with it than most anything else at that point. Then again if your connect is horrible for most things, it's probably going to be horrible for this too.

I'm not going to buy it until they release a demo, either. I don't get why Sony holds back on demos like they do. Maybe I just got spoiled with the 360 demoing pretty much everything. I've gotten used to the whole "try before you buy" concept. Also, I honestly don't know if this will run with my horrendously slow 1.5 mbps connection (the fastest available here). And I highly doubt Sony would refund my $39 if it didn't.

Great game! It is definitely one of those "easy to learn, difficult to master" games. I started as a complete noob, and after a few hours of playing online, I just won my first 2 on 1 match, me being on my own team. Definitely worth a download...and as far as I can tell, a headset isn't even required, considering that the dogfights are so fast, it would be difficult to strategize with partners anyway.

It's worse than that. It's tied to your PSN account AND the console you play it on. If you play on your machine, you can't take your game over to your friend's PS3 EVEN WHEN USING THE PSN ACCOUNT for 24 hours. It's almost like Sony was trying to duplicate how XBLA games worked but something got lost in the translation. For XBLA, you can EITHER log into your account and play it on any machine anywhere, or anyone can play it on the console it was originally downloaded on. Once again, Sony does a bad imitation of a competitor and bungles it.

I hate Sony. I hate the PS3. But Oh My Fucking God this game is brilliant, awesome, exciting, and the most fun I've had on a console since I-can't-remember-when. To me, this game is the #1 reason to own a PS3 if not the only reason to own a PS3. Purely unbelievable.

And trust me, I don't say these kinds of things for fun. I'm way too critical to go wild over a game like this. Seriously, if you own a PS3, you have to buy this game. Period.

I wish that we could stop comparing everything to Halo, though...

It's an OK title, but it's made such a cultural impact. That's what really elevates that game whether it deserves it or not.

Face it, the PS3 probably won't have a shooter that makes the same massive leap to the mainstream that Halo has for better or worse. People look at me cross-eyed when I mention Resistance, and they probably will when I mention Warhawk, but Halo is a household name even for non-gamers.

There will likely never be a Halo "killer" for that reason alone... even if a game can surpass Halo in everything that it excels at, it would take a massive PR victory to "kill" Master Chief. It'd be like calling Sonic the "Mario Killer".

Well, considering that the only things I've heard about Warhawk from the beta players has been praises I wouldn't call it "half-decent". Plus the magazine and internet reviewers have also given the game alot of love.

Is it a Halo killer? Story-wise NO, but considering Warhawk boasts about its infinite war setup I think that it's pretty safe to say that it has enough clout to hog some of the Master Chiefs multiplayer spotlight.

How exactly could four players participate online from a single PS3? The PS3 only supports seven bluetooth devices at the same time. Four controllers plus four headsets would put you over the 7 device limit.

@Toasticus: It supports up to four players on split screen. You can take your guests online to play and the split screening is dynamic so players can join and leave the game at any point. No word on demo yet.

@afmvdp: Well supposedly some EBgames have got the game in today according to a few folks on other forums, but that is likely to be isolated stores and most probably wont have it till tomorrow or Thursday.

BEA was one of the first games I bought on the day it was released, the level where you had to destroy either the rocket or the sub before the levels branched was my favourite. I've always liked that screenshot. It seems like something out of an anime.

Seeing as I've heard almost nothing but good things about Warhawk, I'll probably give it a shot when I pick up my PS3 eventually. I was wondering about a few things, though... will there be a demo or trial version? Also, does it support split-screen? If the latter is true I'll definitely pick it up; otherwise I'll need to at least try it first.

The ones I've seen are between $30 and $40... which, is still a steal if you consider the game is $40 online. I've pretty much used that to convince my wife that it's worth it (plus, I just saved us $120 on a TV last night, so shouldn't be too hard...)

I'm IceBlue over there. I started that one because of the poor VOIP support for PS2 online, and I didn't want the same problem for PS3. I do hope it makes a difference because playing any team based games is bad with no mic support.

That's what I was thinking. I checked allot of retailer(online as well as B&M) and $60 is about the going price for that headset anyway. Definitely worth it IMO.

Sorry, went off on a tangent about how I hates me some Underground.

Anyways, they have a thread on there about how different headset models work. The one I use is the same one I have for my cell... I'm halfway tempted to pick up the brick-and-mortar version because $60 for a Jabra headset and a free game isn't too bad.

@PapaBear434: i believe it doesn't matter if you get the retail version. i read somewhere (hopefully someone can confirm this for me) that once you pop in the disc, it uses upto 800 mb of your harddrive for caching or something to that effect; for faster loading. if this is true, you might as well get that upgrade...after some slack from your wife of course.

is anyone else slightly reminded of the overlooked classic Battl Engine Aquilla by Warhawk? I know it's not that similar but I definitely see sOME similarities between the two. If anything, the overall feel seems similar.

Eh. I have to wait till Friday to pick up ANY of this week's releases. I may end up picking this up. I need a headset and since Warhawk comes with one I'll be set. But then again, Wild Arms 5 is my priority.

What's the word on how much space it takes up? The wife likes to fill my PS3 up with all sorts of music and pictures, and I have a lot of game videos, demos, and things of that nature clogging up the piddly 60GB.

I want to just get an external drive to hook up to it, but the wife is being a bit stingy with the upgrade money considering I am trying to buy a new laptop too. Go figure.

It took me around 40 minutes to dl it and install it. The speed wasn't as bad as I expected and the game was pure fun. I slept at 3.30 am last night and I'm struggling to stay awake now...

I've been hearing really good things from the people who have already downloaded and started playing. One thing though that I've read is probably very important for people to know.

If you buy the PSN version of this game, the only account on your PS3 that will be able to play it is the account that purchased the game. If you share your PS3 with other family members or roommates, they will be unable to play Warhawk using their accounts and will need to either use yours or buy their own (although I'm not even sure buying another copy would work since there's already one installed).

So if this sounds like a pain in the ass for you, you'll probably want to go with the retail version. More info can be found at this NeoGAF forum: [www.neogaf.com]

I really liked the original Warhawk, with one exception, basically no matter what you did you could not evade enemy fire, but it was really freaking fun to play. I remember playing that piramid stage demo like crazy, the actual game wasnt that long but the levels were fun, and the b movie cutscenes were hilarious. My favorite thing to do was go as high as the game would let you go (which was pretty damn high) then go dive bombing down. I almost wish I had a PS3 to give this one a whirl.

I was very surprised at the speed of the download. I bought it from the PSN Store about 2 minutes after it went live and had it installed and running in about 25 minutes (I'm running on a 5Mb connection). I don't know how it is going now that the rest of the world is up and running, but it at least appears that Sony beefed up the bandwidth for this launch.

For me, the timing couldn't have been worse. If this were a launch game as intended, I'd own a copy already, but between Bioshock last week and Metroid Prime today, I'm all out of cash and time.

Since my play time is so limited by the constraints of daily life to begin with, I tend to give single player games precedence.

Looks like a lot of fun, though. Definitely on my holiday wish list.
