You beat me to it. Wil Wheaton performance as 'Geordie', the leading role in the film adaptation of Stephen Kings short story, "The Body", is by far the best of his career. River Phoenix may have outshone him in the star-quality department; Corey Feldman may have put on a more believable performance as the deformed psycho Teddy; and Jerry O'Connell is best remembered for how fat he was as a kid. But Wil Wheaton had the deeper character to play, and he pulled it off for most of the film.

I've been reading Stephen King since I was a kid in the late 70's, although I stopped after "The Tommyknockers". I loved "The Shining", but Kubricks film version, which I do love, is very different from the novel. I think the majority of movies made using Stephen Kings writings as the source material really suck donkey dicks. The tv version of "Salems Lot" was utter crap. The book scared the shit out of me when I first read it at age 9. "Carrie" was okay when it came out, but try watching it now. It does'nt hold up well. And the list goes on: "Firestarter" was crap, "Cujo" also crap, "Christine" bad acting, "The Lawnmower Man" utter crap, "Silver Bullet" never watched the whole thing.

A few movies were decent though: "Creepshow" was good, "The Dead Zone" Christopher Walken was great. "The Shining" more for Kubricks talent than a good adaptation. "Maximum Overdrive" a good 'bad' movie, if you know what I mean.

And then came "Stand By Me". The first good Stephen King movie. Rob Reiner did a good job directing, which helped tremendously. But the kids playing the lead roles all did good, even Keifer Sutherland. Besides "Stand By Me", I think I few other films turned out good. "Misery" is a classic if for nothing more than the famous ankle scene. "Shawshank Redemption" took another short story and made it into a great full length feature film. "Apt Pupil" was another short story that was agood film with good acting from Ian Mckellen. "The Green Mile" was good and it also had great actors giving great performances.

And it all goes back to Wil Wheaton in "Stand By Me".

Sorry for the long, rambling rant. Sometimes I just get on a roll and can't shut up.

Yes this man has credibility. I salute you Will and if It means anything I think you would have made a better captain of the Enterprise than Picard! With an attitude like that towards JT we need to bring you back as captain in another Star Trek. You can actually use that line in a time travel episode where you come back and straighten out all that is wrong with videogames and JT who is in reality a romulan agent trying to turn earths men into.....
