@GeneralPatton: Sony has a direct competitor to the slingbox out on the market already. What it is called, I'm not recalling at this specific moment, but they've done it.

But I have to agree: Stick a few NTSC, ATSC, and HDTV tuners in the sucker, slap on a composite, s-video, component, and maybe an hdmi input and lets go.

You can blame the air industry, the auto industry, and the US government that caters to them for the almost total lack of effective train service in most of the United States.

According to Wired Magazine, Texas was planning to build a high speed train network between all of its major cities, but then Southwest airlines started whining and pulling strings. Then *poof* sorry consumers/taxpayers.

I watch ATSC HDTV over the air every night. All all primetime shows on the major networks are in HD.

Some markets are lucky to have a single station that will do a broadcast just for the news. Are you just going to sell the device to 1/32 of the country in the mean time and update the device later for quirks? =)

I think you'd be better off arguing for a cablecard or DTV tuner. Unless you think DTV = DTTV. Hardly anyone in the US has a ATSC tuner even if they have an 'HDTV'. I just got back in from the fun 108F weather so maybe I misread while seeing dancing animals on my desk... water... water...

I might actually buy a PS3 if you do this. I already have 4 Comcast DVR's, 2 Media Center PC's, and 2 Tivos. I don't need another DVR much less a DVR game system.

This is niche market at best.

you know, i saw this coming.... the dvr and psp download system rely on a more standard network setup, something we in this country don't have in favor of a less monopolistic approach. sure standards help, but they still won't fix all the problems. that being said, i don't know what i would recommend to fix it. i like the way some countries in the EU have done things in these areas, but they also have a history of geographic size that aided and continues to aid them in these areas. we are just too big of a country to instantly change over to a similar system. also our government and corporations are getting pretty corrupt to want to play nice.

Its all about the geographical size. Rollouts in smaller sq.mile countries is a much easier accomplishment. People always complain about how far behind the US is to those small island countries, well duh, one length of cable from Maine to California could wire their whole damn nation.

As for the wireless service, same thing, hundreds of antennas instead of 10s of thousands.

Be thankful that we have alot of space and aren't stacked on on top of each other like some of these advanced nations...
