Geometry Wars Evolved had only sold 204,640 copies as per August 03, 2006 (it came out in January of that year; link). It may be the biggest selling Live game (I don't really know), but it could easily have sold that many copies if even only very few people used the Live Arcade, given how much hype it got.

It evaluates to a margin of error of 0.08 (I think, I would have to read up on that, so don't quote me).

Even though the sample size is big enough, I think these numbers are useless. Why? Because the person answering might not be the one actually using the 360. Obviously, if a 10-year-old's mom answers to this, she'll say that the household owns a 360, but she probably won't know what Live is.

However, the results don't look that absurd to me. I think it's entirely possible for this to be correct. I would say that a lot of people buy 360s just to play offline games and don't really care about Live too much.


Either way, I think most commenters here should consider taking a few classes on statistics.

They didn't poll enough people and no, you don't need a degree in statistics to know that 149 people out of over 10 million (or 0.00149% of the 360 owning population) is a bad sample. This isn't about 360 owners caring whether their breathren are technologically inept or incapable, it's about publishing pointless results from a pretty much meaningless poll. Microsoft could probably run a report and tell us EXACTLY how many 360's have connected to XBox Live, how many have used the arcade, and how many games have been downloaded by whom. But instead someone ran a poll, and it sucked.

I polled four of my friends who own XBox 360's as well as myself. If you think that five is too small a sample, you need to factor in that the population of Australia is about 1/14th the population of North America and the general percentage of 360 ownership is smaller, so the sampled ratio stays about the same. Remember that it's all about scale, not real numbers!

Here are some results I can conclude are true across the entire range of 360 owners as a result of my totally scientific method:


100% of ALL 360 owners are aware of the Xbox Live arcade.
80% of ALL 360 owners have broadband internet.
100% of ALL 360 owners with broadband internet have used the XBox Live Arcade
75% of XBL Arcade users download games regularly.

Finally, and most importantly, which should settle this argument ONCE AND FOR ALL.

The XBOX 360 has a 0% failure rate! :D

The same thing applies for the Wii except replace all that with Wii Sports or Mario Party. The best thing about the "expanded audience" or "blue ocean" is that it gets more consoles in more households.
