I said I was going to run the Kotaku-land server as soon as the game came out, but I realized today that I am actually going to be out of the country from August 22 to September 11. Basically, when Warhawk and Lair come out, and only a day before Heavenly Sword.

As it relates to this, however, is that the Kotaku-land server will have to wait until Sept. 12.

So unless someone else picks up the torch... :(

Let's say the boxed version really is a "Premium Edition". The standard add on for the making of DVD type fare seems to be $10.00. I'm just going from experience... Oblivion, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Bioshock, FF12, etc... Give or take, I'm calling it $10.00.

The blue-tooth headset is supposedly a pretty decent one that runs from about $25 - $40 depending on where you look and what deal is going on. Let's call it $30.00.

So the downloading peeps are paying $20.00 more than the box buyers, ($60.00 Game Box - ($30 Headset + $10 extra content)= $20.00 just on the game unit? If the Blue-Tooth headset is say $20.00... they are paying ($60.00 Game Box - ($20 Headset + $10 extra content)= $30.00 just on the game unit. No matter how you cut it the downloading peeps are getting porked by at least $10.00.

Isn't downloading saving Sony money just by cutting out the expenses of shipping, packaging, etc...? Shouldn't it save the gamers a penny or two as well? In reality I mean... not it the corporate spin Dr. "we want to give people options" land.

I mean if you already have a headset and don't give a heck about the content AND like paying more than something is worth to boot... The download seems AMAZING....

Look at games like BF and the UT series. They have terrible SP modes, if you can really consider fighting bots on a map to be an SP mode. These titles sell for as much, if not more, so I don't get why Warhawk is getting singled out here.

Actually the game comes with FULL content. Just because it doesn't include what other games might doesn't mean it has half the content. If you bought a version of Warhawk that had only half of the maps the other versions had, then yes it would be half the content but it isn't and your a tard-bomber.

I for one can't wait for this! The beta was amazing! I was on the fence about it until I played it! It's the most good old fashioned fun I've had with a game in a loooong time.

For $60, you get a $30 headset and a damn fine game. If you don't want to use the headset for game use, use it for your cell phone. If you don't want it for anything, just download the damn game, because $40 is a steal for this game, I assure you.

I know I am regarded by many to be a PS3 loyalist, so my opinion on this may very well be disregarded as such. But I tell you, this game is why I bought the PS3, and at least in Beta it did not disappoint (even if it crashed every ten minutes.)

Let's be honest, the real life of a game like this is online, not in sp. most people just use the sp to train or get better, you simply won't have that option anymore. @Lard: Games cost $60 now, just like they did in the past. The option to get it online for $20 less, or a premeir edition with a great headset (really, have you played a shooter online? this is about the opposite of "uneccessary junk" if you have) and extras....its a fair deal that gives you either option, yet you & others've resolved yourself that its a "scam" because its, wha, $5-10 more than your comfort zone allows for a certain form of packaging? You cant be serious, im curious if youre actually interested in the game at all.

Quality sells a game- the reasonable cost of a game, per its quality is based on your opinion. Just because you don't find a game's worth its current retail value doesn't make you right.

Asteroids for the Atari 2600 back in the 80's cost over $100 off of the retail shelf when it was a new release.

If you want the full retail physical copy you need to pay for packaging and media production costs. Not that that that stuff costs $20 more but you're paying for a physical product. That stuff is always more expensive than direct digital purchases. There's much more human labor costs involved.

The funny thing is you're likely getting more for your money for buying the phyical copy versus the digital only copy, technically.

Wow, people want to complain about EVERYTHING. Give me a break... It SHOULD be cheaper online. Half the problem with buying crap online (games, movies, music) so far is the fact that it's NOT cheaper than it is offline and it's an inferior product (ie, no resale value, worse sound/video quality, etc).

The fact that Sony is selling the game directly to you without having to worry about manufacturing and distribution means that it should probably be even LESS than $40, but as it is, it makes sense that the retail game, which costs more money to manufacture and distribute, would cost more to buy than the online version.

That being said, I'd prefer a version without a headset for, say, $50. I, and probably a lot of other people, already have a bluetooth headset. That's really the only thing that's annoying about the package.

Do I want a headset? No. It's likely being forced on the set to jack up the price. Likely to persuade people to buy the game via online.

I don't want to buy the game online - and I'm being punished for it.

While that's nice, a more obvious (and probably more universally appealing) advantage is the fact that the blu-ray version will have a resale value, whereas the online version basically has 100% depreciation the moment you buy it. If the game had been $20 or maybe even $30 I may have given the PSN version a try, but as it is I'm thinking I'll pass on it until there are some cheaper used (or bargain-binned) copies of the blu-ray version.

Of course, by that time no one may be playing any more. Guess I may just have to live without Warhawk.

Putting the argument of piracy aside, it seems as if you would only be able to play if those folks were not on at the same time. Master server would pick up on an identical ID code, and not let you sign on.

There is an advantage to buying the Blu-ray version. You get a headset and video extras but on top of it, you get a feature that the PSN version will not have, and thats the ability to install ghost versions on other PS3s.

This is limited to LAN only but you can probably see why. This ghost feature allows 1 copy of warhawk to be installed on several PS3s in any combination to get 32 players. SO if you have a warhawk LAN, you only need to have 1 blu-ray version of the game and everyone can play off of it.

Downside is the ghost versions will only connect to PS3s that use the retail blu-ray version.

The game is well worth $40 for the PSN version and even more worth it for the Blu-ray version.

Oh, the game is a HELL of a lot better than Shadowrun (yes, I did play it.) The game is freaking amazing. When you play a Zone match on a 32 man server, it's insane. It actually feels like a battle, partly thanks to the amazing sound. Bullets wiz past your head (sounds different based on the guns) mortars go off, rockets explode, jets fly overhead dropping ordinance on you or dogfight above your head...

Nothing matches the scariness of narrowly surviving a tank assault on your Zone by three tanks by having one of your airborne teammates drop a cluster bomb right on top of them at the last minute. Or dodging flaming debris after you shoot down a Warhawk above your head. Or use a flame thrower to hold a couple of guys inside a bunker while your friend sneaks around to the window on the other side and starts chucking grenades inside...

Trust me, Warhawk is worth the $40. And the headset deal would be worth it, simply because you are going to want to talk to your teammates. And the speech system in this actually sounds great, considering the multitude of mics in use.

I am using a Jabbra headset I got with my cell phone right now. I think I may want the $60 version if for no other reason than to save the disk space on my HDD, but having a second headset for my buddy when he comes over to play the online-split screen-while-running-a-server feature.

Yeah! And as somebody who, um, kinda followed the Beta by reading blurbs about it here on Kotaku, I also demand one of those pins. For, you know, showing moral support. And stuff.

I'm torn, though. $60 is a huge risk for a game I didn't get a chance to Beta (curse Sony and their price drop!) but I'm worried that I'll buy the PSN version for $40 and love it, then later have to go buy a headset and end up spending more money than I would have in the first place.

I played a lot of BF2 on my PC when it was in its prime, and I also played a lot of Shadowrun when I recently got it at a discount. Is Warhawk on par with those games?

it should be about the experience, unfortunately i have a lot of games with both modes that after i bought them, i realized they didn't do anything that well (single or multi) i will pay for a great online game just like i will pay for a great single player only game and from what i have seen and read - Warhawk delivers.

Maybe Battlefield 1942 or Battlefield 2 (For the PC) is a better example than Halo 2. BF2 had an offline mode but it was just a soulless skirmish mode that lacked any form of depth. I would only expect the same out of Warhawk given its online built design. But who knows. I feel confident it will be a great game without it. Maybe something to look forward to in Warhawk 2.

I paid 60 bucks for shadowrun, and that was a big mistake. But Warhawk for 40 is well worth it. The game has a whole lot more content, options, features, and support. Incognito really did a great job of creating a fully functional online game, and not a shoddy half assed title like shadowrun was.

Course people spend 60 bucks on games with single player campains they play once or last a couple hours, and pretty much just use it for online play. Heck GRAW2 was a little over 4 hours long only.

For MMO's you play for the social interations of the game. Look at WoW it is basically one big social gathering. There for it is diffrent then warhawk were the main focus is basically trying to figure out who is better than who.

You make it sound like if it had offline mode you would actually play it. If Halo 2 had no offline mode- no one would have cared. Mutiplayer online is why everyone buys the game. And we had to pay for a Xbox Live account to play online too. You don't even have to do that.

So think of it as just an option that got axed because they knew no one would play offline much really anyway.

What do you mean, should? The system cost us less than it did for Sony to make it. Why in the hell "should" they give us a BT headset too? You're just one of those people who won't be happy with something at any price. Even a decent one.

If you read closer you'll see you don'tjust get a box for twenty bucks, you get a blue tooth headset as well as some added video content.

Thats a steal for anyone who doesn't have one for their PS3 already. Or for anyone who doesn't want to mess trying to keep your cellphones charged to play warhawk and use your phone.

I'll gladly pay for the boxed price just to support the game. But to give me a BT Headset for $20 more ... its foolish not to buy the boxed version.
