I'll just say this. I was there at Fan Faire when this was announced, and there wasn't a single person there I talked to (1600+ attendees) that was *not* excited about this. Myself included.

MarioMax

@sanyo: From the interview linked to later on: "...It will allow EQ and EQ 2 players to challenge each other, or allow people to play from outside of either game and challenge people who are playing inside.

...

The cool thing is that you don't have to buy things if you don't want to. We're putting card packs into both games as drops, so if a person doesn't want to purchase anything.. they don't have to. We're also giving away starter decks to people day 1."

animagnum

I'd get this if it was separate from the actual Everquest games. And if boosters and decks didn't cost actual money, but points, like in the Yugioh games.

sanyo

I'm not a huge EQ fan, but this idea has incredible potential. A large number of MMO players are not into high-level content and view the virtual worlds as social environments. This type of addition gives those kinds of players more to do within the world. Good stuff.

animagnum

I think this is a good idea on their part. I've always loved the idea of playing mini-games within an MMO space as another valid way of enjoying the game.

This one takes a few different concepts and shapes them into something unique that has the potential to influence future MMO developers. Without playing it yet it reminds me of:

~the mini-game in Knights of the Old Republic
~the diplomacy mini-game in Vanguard
~the item crossover potential in the WoW TGC

So take all of those influences, shake them up a bit and it could be a big plus for both games. At the very least a online card game with great images would be a million times better than playing a game of /gems in EQ any day.

Sardu

I think that this has the ability to suck me in to the game, practically making me feel like I'm in the game world. OK, so maybe I wouldn't be that immersed, but I'd be pretty darn close.

Garnan

Wait... so the BIG announcement was a Card Game?

It look really nice, the artwork is amazing but... Hmm. I can't even say anything at this point.

SOE has a pretty bad reputation, I know that another MMO most likely wouldn't help their cause, but this definitely won't win back a lot of people that left their other games.

Patient
