It would be so sweet if we could get this package for $54.65, like in Japan, but odds are slim. You have to factor in import tax, additional translation costs (in code(if they revamp the graphics) and in language(if they revamp the sound)), and the fact that MGS has always had a bigger audience in Japan. I'm not saying I still wouldn't sell my friggin' kidney to get one of these, cause I would, but I'm just saying, it'll probably be in the $150-$200 range.

@NEO_X When you said $200, you probably weren't too far off. Yeah, it's $54.65 US in Japan, but you gotta add on import tax, additional costs for translation, in code and in language, and the fact that MGS has a bigger audience in Japan. It'll probably be in the 125-200 dollar range when and if it hits here.

Hmm... you're right, it would... but let's count the discs up there. ...Crap. I think that it just has the regular versions of MGS1 and 2. That sucks. Why, though? That's just silly. And I'm betting that the MGS3 included is just Snake Eater, with the MGs on a seperate disk, with nothing else.

Maybe we'll get an even better version over here? I mean, it just doesn't make sense. Seeing as it's just burning code to a disk, it doesn't cost them anything, so why not give us the better versions? Great, now I'm annoyed.

Side note- Twin Snakes? Not to be mean, but it wasn't actually very good. The cutscenes were ridiculous- not only did they not match up with the actual gameplay, given their John Woo-ness, but they just made things stupid. Why would the most skilled soldier from Foxhound slice a chunk of concrete off a wall, and kick it at someone? Why not just cut the guy in half?

And plus, no accent for Mei Ling = failure. Sorry, but it's out of my hands. I wish I could help Silicon Knights, but judgement has been passed. Hopefully Too Human will redeem them, but I wouldn't count on it.

Besides, even though I'm a big fan of metal gear, I never knew it to being a big seller in the US. When Snake Eater came out, I bought it at full price, but a month or so later it was on sale. I saw a lot of it sitting on the shelves. Which is a shame, because it's pretty good game.

Isnt it a no brainer to release this collection before mgs4 hits to build up hype for the title? I know that there are plenty of younger gamers that were too young to experience games dating as far back as the original metal gear, mgs1 or even mgs2, that would now be interested in the metal gear franchise but can't break the entry barrier because they have already missed so much in the series. Or they could be like me, a kid who owned an nintendo 64 when mgs1 came out, an xbox and gamecube when mgs2 and 3 came out, and now the with the exception of ports like twin snakes, i have no way of playing the games. Now that i bought a 499 ps3, i want to go back and play ALL the games. Bring to America please, i would pay the $80-120 range for this product as shown.

3) Dont be so certain - youre talking about a set that boasts MGS3 (never got ported), and a PSP title. the case can be made, but i dont know the details behind sony's intricate relationship with team kojima.

1) It'd use Wi-Fi Connection, so Subsitence's old server(s) don't matter.
2) Tricky? Absolutely. Impossible? Of course not. My only worry is if such a thing were to be done, is if anyone but Kojima Productions handled it (or at least, someone from there to supervise if given to another dev studio). It's just as likely they'd just use Classic Controller support (it has almost as many buttons as DualShock (analog sticks don't have digital buttons in them), making remapping controls pretty simple) and ignore a Wii Remote+Nunchuk combo. Or even GameCube controller support (which has even less buttons).
3) Extremely, highly doubtful. Unless the publisher signs some sort of exclusivity contract with the console manufacturer, they can bring their game wherever they want to. Considering all the jumping Metal Gear's done, I highly doubt that's the case here.

By no means do I think this is likely to happen, just that it's possible (odds: 0.0000000000001%) given the statistics in my previous post.
(Oh, and one thing I forgot to mention is a Wii version of Twin Snakes would be in this compilation (One disc versus two, and possible Wii controls) :P)

I wouldn't bet on it going to another console, cause Kojima just plain likes Sony. Also, this is just a repackaging. Porting it would be a recoding (to some extent), which is much more of a pain, and let's face it, programmers are lazy.

1) online wont really matter, will it? only subsistence used it, and those servers are kinda gone. and yeah, friend codes suck, for what that's worth.
2) This one'd be really tricky (in my eyes) to work with the control scheme. The shoulder buttons, etc i mean, it can be done, but it stirkes me as really awkward...then again, i associate these games with a PS-type contoroller.
3) Woudlnt that have to be worked out with Sony? Im thinking they have some kinda arrangement with these entries in this franchise. Yes, theyve gone to PC and 360 before, but im saying, its still a factor.

I woudlnt rule it out, though. The prospect just really doenst excite me, the way the idea of Kojima finishing up the series, then doing his own thing on the Wii (as he's said he'd like to before) does.

Consider the following:
1) Developers seem to find it easy to port their PS2/PSP games to Wii.
2) 360 and PS3 seem to get the main games in series, with Wii get the odd man out (i.e. RE5 vs. Umbrella Chronicles)
3) Wii is extremely popular.

Solution:
Konami ports the MG/MG2 disc, MGS2: Substance, MGS3: Subsitence, and MGS: Portable Ops to Wii.
All existing online modes will be modified to use Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Friend Codes still suck, but it's worth it for this.

This collection is missing Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel on the Game Boy Color. It was easily the best game on the GBC and it carried on MGS1's style very well for the hardware. Actually, while they're at it, they could throw in Evolution Skateboarding's and Beatmania's MGS parts. Still, it's cool that they include the Document of MGS2 in here. I might pick it up.

Ryan Payton confirmed that MGS3 would be the Subsistence version in the Kojima Productions podcast, session 044. This quote is from 10:55 into that podcast: (transcription errors are my own)

"For 6800 yen, which is about 60 bucks, US, um it's got Metal Gear Solid 1, er, Metal Gear 1, Metal Gear 2, the MSX titles, that you can play on your PlayStation 2 that were originally on the Subsistence pack, the original Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2, plus the Document of Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater, however it's the Subsistence version with the 3D camera, Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops, that UMD, and then a special Metal Gear Saga DVD, um, and that's all for about 60 bucks. That is a steal, and in really nice packaging, too."

@Sleepybum: Probably the MSX versions, yes, like on Subsistance. Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake was never released on the NES, and the NES version of Metal Gear 1 is different from the MSX version.

@Crunshii: you don't want those! The two MSX games are superior :). The 1st NES Metal Gear is a port of the MSX Metal Gear, with a bunch of modifications that were not supervised by Kojima (e.g. they removed Metal Gear from it!). The 2nd NES Metal Gear, Snake's Revenge, also wasn't directed by Kojima, and turned out to be a pretty uninteresting game. The true sequel though, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, is awesome.

Twin Snakes was done in a joint venture between Konami, Silicon Knights and Nintendo. Miyamoto personally comissioned Konami to make a MGS title exclusively for the GC (that's where SC came into play) which was TS. That's why TS won't be showing up in this collection.

Y'know, getting this set would be much cheaper than getting a copy of MGS2: Substance (which I haven't found anywhere for less than $50.)

But I don't want Portable Ops. I don't own a PSP, why not make it a PS2 port? Dammit.

I'd buy it even thought I don't have a PS2. I got into MGS from playing MGS2 on my cousin's PS2 a few years back, then when MGS3 came out I bought it for him for Christmas. (for myself) The only MGS game that is really MINE would be portable ops. I guess I'll just take my cousin's PS2 since he doesn't use it anymore and only plays his xbox 360.

@olion597: Consider the price confirmed. Well, sort of. ￥6900, rather than ￥6250, so more along the lines of $60. But that's still an incredible bargain, and it's such a nice package!
