Billy Mitchell is such a phony lame-ass man. Poor fellow, I kind of pitty him. He's been claiming this title for soooo long but he hasn't played it live (in front of an audience) for years! Nobody has seen him playing it, nobody.

His self advertising (this includes CHARITIES of course) and his super ego makes me want to vomit... at his feet. He just acts like he is humble and honest and a 'role model' but he's so full of it. sooo full of it. Can't you really see it??

Steve Wiebe is the REAL champion. Face it everyone!, Face It Mitchell! he played LIVE and bet your score and then you sent a freaking phony videotape.. Then he invited you over the phone (that you never had the guts to answer) to a competition for the Guiness Book of Records and you chickened out!

Steve played LIVE while having a bunch of Mitchell's dogs spying over his shoulder and communicating to him every freaking single move of Steve's. That's not cool at all.

If somebody is interested, get the documentary 'King of Kong' and you will CLEARLY see what I'm talking about.

Sorry man but you're time is up.. Make room for people who like to play for fun, not for money and recognition.

You guys really need to do a bit of reading and understanding. Billy Mitchell at one point in his life dedicated himself to being the best of the best at Donkey Kong. And he was.

Then he stopped playing.

Then many years later along comes Wiebe, who challenges Mitchell to matches (when mitchell hadn't played in over a year at that point, go read the interview), and portrays him as a smarmy ass in his movies. The magic of film editing is that Wiebe made Mitchell out to be a huge jerk just so it could seem like he was taking on some tyrannical overlord.

Why would Mitchell seem so cool, calm, collected and a genuinely nice guy in all his interviews, in his public postings, heck, he didnt even take shots at Wiebe (just saying he was 'saddened') if he was really the incoherent angry jerk the movie makes him out to be? I know there are very two faced people out there and I guess its possible he's one of them, but JUST READ INTO THIS. He was at a fucking charity playing charity games. He throws lots of monies into charities. He uses his DK fame for more charities.

I dont see Wiebe dropping his King of Kong monies into helping some kids or something.

Billy Mitchell is the man. Glad to see him back on top. Say what you will about him, from the way he's portrayed in King of Kong or otherwise, but he seems like a ridiculously charismatic guy, and he's certainly good at what he does.

Hahnchen's comment is pretty relevant. I haven't seen King of Kong yet, but from the trailer, what I've read about the movie, and what I've read about the men involved, it seems like everyone on the internet wants to get behind the underdog simply because he is the underdog. These guys are made out to be cartoon characters rather than people, good vs. evil, blah blah blah. Hard to believe that's the case.

Billy Mitchell is good. Yes, he knows it, and no, he's not shy about it. That doesn't make him a bad guy. Unfortunately, it seems that most geeks identify far more with losers, and really, who else is going to be concerned about this?

For all those who are waiting to see when the movie comes out, they villianized Billy Mitchell in it. He publically spoke out a little while ago saying Wiebe took him completely by surprise with the way he depicted him in the movie, and was kind of saddened by it. He seems like a genuinely nice man, and he was angry at the way the King of Kong movie seemed geared to make him as a 'bad guy'.

So seeing this...

Slacker, I agree that the holy grail of achieving a high score has lost its luster. There's really no accommodating it in today's games - especially considering the amount of exploits one can use to get them. Who's to say what's legitimate and what's not when you check the leader boards for a particular game?

Furthermore, in the days of coin-op cabinets, the end result of a high score was all you could really work towards. Nowadays games reward the player with so many other things (an involving story, new characters, alternate endings, unlockables, achievement points for the Xbox, etc.). But Donkey Kong? You beat it, then just moved on to the next level until you ran out of lives (or quarters).

Man, it's sad to see how many can't appreciate the classic thrill of a high score. This is the real "hardcore" gaming to me. Arcades are mostly dead, but the time and dedication to a game it takes to beat records almost on demand is really just crazy.
