Nintendo hasn't "shunned" the hardcore gamer, they just aren't aiming at them exclusively. And it's not even an issue of "hardcore gamers." Their three BIG titles for the rest of the year are Mario, Metroid and Smash Bros., all three targeted squarely at longtime Nintendo franchise character diehards - and NO ONE is more hardcore than them. The only audience Nintendo could be said to be "shunning" are online co-op FPS fanatics, and that was never really part of the "Nintendo Family" to begin with.

The possibilities of that mat are intriguing. Outside the "flagship" game, imagine what it could do for a skateboard, snowboard, surfing, etc. title.

You know what's really sad? For all my bashing of the Wii as gimmicky, unnecessary, and backwards, this is the first game that has come out for it that I actually want to pony up the $350 (Wii and game + pad) to rebuy the Wii. Seriously, this jumped right into a "must buy" position next to LittleBigPlanet, Warhawk, and Mass Effect.

And what does the general Wii audience think of this thing? Everyone is pretty much responding with a resounding "Meh."

Go figure, I guess...

@geoffcbassett: I think advertising it as an exercise game is slick. Tons of soccer moms that bought their kid a wii will likely spend the 100ish dollars this thing is going to cost and justify the cost as a piece of fitness equipment.
