my last name is so rare, that when i hear about others, i can guarantee they're cousins or some kind of relatives. and my first name is really old fashioned (Josephine) so the only other Josephine's i've met were either really old ladies or were already dead.

It's strange how my name (Max) is so popular in Russia, Ukraine, and other East Slavic countries, and is quite rare here in Western Europe. Over two years I've been living in UK, I haven't met a single Max, which is wierd.

There are only a couple of hundred people worldwide with my last name, mostly in Germany or Pennsylvania. That being the case, the group of people with that name who could be considered my relatives is a fairly small group of about 15 people. Anyway, about 10 years ago I found out that there was another me living in Phoenix, so I emailed him, but he did not respond. I like to think that he was just trying to preserve space-time because he figured that I was a time-traveller. Either that or he was a douche.

wow, i went to visit my ex-rock journalist uncle the other week and was reading through his massive library of old NMEs - i actually remember reading that very article! i love old oasis interviews, they're always hilarious. can't say that your name rang a bell if i'm entirely honest, but then again i'm not really in the casual habit of thinking about videogame bloggers throughout the day. still cool, though!

One other person in the US has the same name as me, so a few years ago a sent him an email.

He was in his late 40's, and I guess he was a little down because he ended our email conversation with: "hope your name serves you better than it did me".

I really hope my name isn't cursed. How could a name like Adolf Damien be anything but good?

Just kidding about the name. Funny thing about names, Adolf not popular at all anymore. And did you know that in the first decade of the 1900's Helga was in the top 10 most popular names?

Okay, so my last name is really original. It's Dutch and when my Oma and Opa came from Holland with my Dad and his brother and sister they became the only ones in all of Canada with that last name. Plus my first name is one rarely used (I've never met another person with my first name although there is one on a popular TV show) so my full name is quite unique. So much so that I am the only one in my name line that can pass it on since my Uncle couldn't have any kids and my Anut, well, changed her name when she got married. My Dad had only one son so that leaves me to carry on our name sake.

Here's the twist.

My Dad fathered a daughter before me with his first marriage. After my Dad and this woman divorce she keeps his last name and has a son out of wedlock years later. This son grows up with my last name even though he has not a drop of blood in him that would relate him to my Dad. So when this dude that shares my last name had a kid he passes not only my last name to him but he give the baby my first name as well and a middle name that has the same beginning letter as mine.

So that's my story. I know there is some slack job out there with my first, middle initial and last name out there. It pisses me off to no end I tells ya.

I learned all this through my half sister who also sides with me in this stupid naming game. I keep doing Google searches to see if he'll pop up but nothing yet. So far, it's all me baby.
