Komrade_Kayce you're thinking of epcot. That area is also where they have that show where you are inside a teenage boys brain and see all the effects his life has on his body. The ride where you shrink down is called body wars. I think that stuff is still there. The last time I went was when that mars launcher simulation ride came out or was it the test drive ride. It was one of those.

AndroidKing

I think this was a great idea, especially since the only way you could properly view a rear-projection TV in the 80's was if you looked at it straight on.

Laserdiscs rock. I got a player free (one of those "I'm going to toss it if no one wants it" electronics rescues) not too long ago and have been scouring local record shops and Ebay for used LDs. Depending on the LD they really look quite good, especially when you figure they predated DVDs by almost 2 decades. And as long as you know what you're looking for, there's still quite a bit out there that the LD is the best quality copy available.

A bit more on topic, does anyone remember the VHS videos they used to sell sort of based on this idea, it'd just be a first-person perspective of a bike trail you could just watch on TV? I vaguely remember the local PBS station airing them occasionally in the late 80s... my parents would record them and then delude themselves into thinking that it made sitting on a stationary bike more interesting. ;)

Justin42

Yeah, here out in the boonies its dangerous to ride a bike. Most roads, cars can go 50MPH or more. And there are no sidewalks. One of these days i'll buy a bike rack so i can take my bike somewhere "safe" to ride..like a bike trail or a residential street (25MPH or less)

nootau

Ahem.

There is STILL a ride like this at... Disney? Universal Studios? Someones gonna have to help me out on this one, its the ride that is based on that old movie where you get shrunk into a little pill sized format and put into someones body to explore people on the inside.

Anyways, the whole ride is about health and fitness, so right outside the ride in the 'waiting' lobby, there are a couple of exercise bikes complete with tours of italy/disney/etc (different places) that work on how fast you pedal.

I just didnt know the same idea has been around since 1982.

Komrade_Kayce

Ironically enough, I just returned ten minutes ago from a 3 mile bike.

That's a really big bike. Where do you store it?

I have a broken Laserdisc player in my house somewhere, and I have Alien on LD, looks and plays real good, as good as DVD or better.

Oh come on now. I still have a Pioneer LD player in mint condition, but let's be honest - the quality is nowhere near DVD. It's not physically capable of it - 525 lines of resolution max, vs. 720 (stored) or even more than that anamorphically on DVD. Add in to that crosstalk and other analog noise and a lot of LD's and LD players are lucky if they look better than VHS tapes and VCR's.

I mainly use my LD player at this point to capture to my PC and make DVD's out of stuff you can't buy on DVD. Old music videos, mostly.
@Browzilla:That's a huge bike! How many people does it take to pedal that thing?

I... I can't seem to find words for how stupid this is. I would buy it if it didn't have the bike, just the Laserdisc player and the big ol' TV. If I want to ride a bike I'll ride a damn bike. Geez.

StealthNachos

So...20 grand for a bike and a screen, vs. a few hundred at most for a new bike, and free use of the streets.

I'll stick with my real bike, thanks.

Ironically enough, I just returned ten minutes ago from a 3 mile bike.

Browzilla
