Bundles are a great idea, the problem is making a bundle that people want, and making it competitive. A PS3 bundle with a game can't simply be (CostPS3 + CostGame), it's gotta be something more like ((.9)CostPS3 + (.5)CostGame) or something like that, otherwise there's no incentive for me to not go out and buy a used PS3 (which isn't making Sony any money) and the game separately.

Actually it was because of my understanding of economics and finance that I posed the question.
No matter what the product is, it should cost relatively the same price in all countries after acounting things like taxes, exchange rates, tarifs, shipping etc. The fact that the Ps3 costs almost double in the Uk just blows my mind. And yet everytime you look at a price tag on a book or something you see US- $15, Canada- $18, that's nothing new. Not to mention you also have the free healthcare thing that adds to the overall tax. Aside from the economic strength you also have import/export costs that factor in. Like Skobar said, the product is made all in one place so the cost of production and the cost of the final product doesn't change, there's just other factors that are involved.

no. It's 100% certain that this isn't the case just simply looking at Canada. We literally do pay 50 bucks more, and our productivity/pay is LOWER than that of the US. If economic strength is the measure of how much we pay according to PPP, then it's certain that we would be paying a price that is lower than that of Japan, considering that we are second-last in economic strength amongst the high income countries. Yes, we got warnings from WTO to increase productivity or risk future problems. All we did was ignore them...

I was merely pointing out that when an american goes to the store and pays $600 for one a UK citizen can go do the same thing for their $843 and are not in actuality paying $200 more. That's how I took Charman's post because it seemed to me like he really believed $600 is the global price but some countries are being greedy and tacking on extra cash because they can. As lame as that sounds, there really are more people that believe that than you might think.

Well, that, and $600 is a LOT of money. I want my fellow gamers to be able to play Warhawk and LittleBigPlanet with me, and for a lot of people that can't happen until they can get past the financial (and in a lot of cases the psychological barrier) of laying down six c-notes.

It still amazes me how people don't understand simple economics. It's real simple, NO COUNTRY IS PAYING MORE THAN ANYONE ELSE! At least not for the base product (taxes are just an add-on). It all has to do with a country's economic status. Workers in other countries generally earn more money per hour than Americans and currency rates are unbalanced for a reason. Therefore prices in general are higher, not just products like the PS3. The Dollar is weak right now, it takes about $3 to a Euro in exchange rates so that is why the UK price is how it is. They aren't paying more, prices are just inflated higher because of economic strength.

Sony shipped double and in some cases triple what stores asked for, so nearly every store cut the price by £25. Either that or they gave away a free game.
