How is the ESRB a government ran media censorship"? ESRB isn't owned or affiliated with the US Government in any way/shape/form. And if you're talking about lobbyists, those guys are usually under the payroll of corporations or non-profit organizations. I'm not aware of the Government itself having any lobbyists. In fact, that's why making laws which rely on ESRB ratings is unconstitutional. It violates the tenet of due process by ceding legal power to restrict/control sales to a civilian entity.

LSL uncensored version basically shows everything, which is really just the entire game without the mosaics superimposed on the naughty stuff, or so I remembered anyway. I don't know if it actually have more content to tell the truth since I stopped playing halfway.

The AO rating is the ESRB's way of being able to ban games they find offensive. Fill that with lobbysits and you have your self a government ran media censorship factory. It's bullshit, to the highest degree of bullshit, and it's the same thing that's been going on with television for years. We're going to start seeing more games like this get this rating and noone's gonna do a damn thing about it because every Average Dick and Plain Sue are going to believe what the TeeVee tells them about the world. I'd be surprised if GTA IV didn't get this too, just because of the company of origin.

Don't get me wrong, for the most part I like America, because even though shit like this happens we still have more rights than most any other country. Like, even though something gets an AO rating does mean it's not going to be seen by alot of people, and as a result not make a lot of money, crippling the business and punishing them for showing no-no parts, it doesn't mean it's impossible, or even hard to get. I'd rather it be a small inconvience to get than breaking the law to get.

I'm sure the violence in this game is no worse than the violence in your average cookie cutter "horror" (blood and gore tied together lossely with a shitty plot, see Hostel, Saw 1,2,3) flick that recieves the R rating.

Banned Games in Germany, now that's another story. Manhunt 1 for example is banned, but that are just a few games really...

But it was worth playing the international version over the cut up American release for sure.

I hope Rockstar stands their ground and puts it out in AO just because maybe it'd start opening the flood gates. Look at the list though, its one of the few that is AO because of violence. Sad how much we're afraid of sex in this country.

Also, I've played Tokimeki Check in and X-Change. They SO don't deserve the AO rating. There's very little violence in them!

If there were more XXX/NC-17 movies in the world, then the major consumer retailers (i.e. Target, Wal-Mart, etc.) would have to recognize them as a legitimate rating and would be ultimately forced to carry them.

I'm starting to side with the ESRB in this one if they issued their rating without having to be prodded by the special interest group. If the ESRB says that a game is AO without outside influence, then I'm ok with that because the game maker has the ability to go back and re-work the game to make it closer to an M rating (just like a movie which gets NC-17 can go back and become an R version).

The first cut of Team America: World Police received an NC-17 rating. A scene was cut, and it was re-rated to R. The same thing could happen with video games, though admittedly it's not nearly as easy to "cut" certain aspects of a game. Maybe a longer lead-time is needed?

Isn't AO more comparable to an NC-17 rated movie? "X" is no longer used, and I'm pretty sure "XXX" was always self-applied. NC-17 movies usually get fucked over by larger theater chains who refuse to show them, too.

I had the opprotunity to play thrill kill, and I can honestly say it was no more violent than god of war. It was a mediocre fighting game with characters that look something out of The Hills Have Eyes, and there was a fair ammonut of blood and loss of limbs and what not. Again, nothing we haven't seen in games that made it to store shelves such as God of War 1 and 2.

There are titles literally banned in this country, you can not legally acquire them no matter what age you are. Gears of War is one of those, alongside Doom3, QuakeIV, FarCry [...].

I just don't understand where the line is between an M rating (essentially R for movies) and an AO rating (XXX rating). Even in movies it's not clear cut. It depends on a lot of subjective factors. What are the criteria for games?

Playboy Screensaver was a great game. Your goal was to choke the chicken before the picture on screen changed. It was tough since you usually had less than a minute to do it. It required a quick wrist and hand-eye coordination.
