As for the club being limited, well I guess that was just how I interpreted it. I was imagining people making some sort of application to join the club, and only those people who did so and were accepted would be invited to join the weekly (or whatever) chats. If the chat room is just left open to whoever I reckon you'll end up with a room full of fanboys and idiots ignoring the point of the meeting and causing havoc - ruining it for those who legitimately want to discuss the game.

So if done this way, Kotaku would end up with a club of however many people, vetted to weed out the idiots, and from those people a certain number (maybe all, maybe just a handful) would turn up to the meetings and discuss the game at hand. The minutes of the meeting would then be posted on the site to let the readers discuss it further.

IF that is how it was to work, then I don't see the point in having people join who aren't going to buy any of the games chosen, or don't have the means to play them. How are they going to contribute?

Cave Story is a little indie thing made by ONE GUY, and most people have never heard of it. (And was translated by fans)
Also, my friend says that he hated BG/E, having not played it myself I dont have anything to go by. But having gone thru Cave Story, and knowing that theres a whole bonus extra area you can unlock, and hidden weapons I've already begun a 2nd play-thru. (A bit over half way thru right now with the Wave Beam weapon obtained instead of the machinegun) And it's story line is good, strong, and interesting. And it's got Miagmas!!!
Also, the Deadly Rooms of Death looks interesting by the screen shot. I'll check that one out on my own too.

Oh, and a side note -- Cave Story is one of my favorite platformers. It ramps up the difficulty smoothly but steadily -- as the game becomes insanely difficult (Hell level) it makes it easy for you to learn to be a badass along the way.

Cave story is quite possibly one of the most beautiful things to come out in the last 5 years. Its an ode to gaming at its height, and should be used as a standard for amazing platformers. Its simple, but compelling.

BG&E, although great, isnt as easily accesible as Cave Story (mainly because Cave Story is freeware.) It also didnt get me in my gamers-gut nearly as much as cave story.

Starting off with a free game will draw a lot more people in, and from there the ones that will be willing to pay for a game will stay. Many people will be turned off at the door, simply because not everyone has the spare cash and time to get this game, and they will never be swayed because they won't know how fun the club actually is.

Plus, Cave Story is the shit.
