@Mit:
It's just drumming. The stylus shouldn't stay in contact with the screen at all. It should hit and bounce away. And I suspect it won't matter how well it can keep track of exactly where the contacts happen as long as it can keep track of _when_ they happen. Also, trained drummers would generally try to hit the same spot with both sticks/mallets, unless they were intentionally trying to get different tones by hitting different areas of the same drum head (eg: steelpan drums, which have different notes tuned around the rim).

@markuspants: It surely isn't 'more than a niche market'. There are supposedly 44 million DS/Lite systems and I would be surprised if there were anywhere near 1 million flash carts.

DS sells to a very wide audience that includes people (probably mostly kids but also a few adults) outside the 'extreme male techno-geek' audience who are likely to know about flash carts (that'd be me, then) or own one (that'd be someone else, then).

I'm not entirely convinced about this game, but maybe it will be good. Unless reports are really stunning I probably won't bother to import.

Useful branding accessories give many players incentive to actually go buy the game. I don't know how big the 3rd party flash cart business is, but it has to be more than a niche market by now. Is there any research on how much is "lost" licensed NDS publishers because of this? Just a thought. But recreating an arcade experience with bundled accessories? Pretty much an easy sell for fans.

markuspants

When drumming, why would you need two beat both sticks at the same time?
From what I understand (I'm no expert here), you would alternate. It would be the same as tapping one stylus quickly.

This game looks like a purchase to me. Maybe it's keempoo's incessant brainwashing tactics.

In Japan, first-party DS games typically cost 4,800 yen, while third-party games retail for a bit more or less, depending on the publisher. Namco Bandai games, for example, usually go for 5,040 yen, so I wouldn't say there's 1,000 yen markup going on here.

sennuwy

Since I'm the first to say: I WANTS.
Those stylii are adorable.

And for those questioning how to hold the DS and play at the same time, usually if you're playing a rythym game (such as Ouendan or EBA) it's a lot easier to set the thing down in the first place. Personally, I have to play Ouendan lying down because trying to tap and hold the DS at the same time just doesn't jive with me.

Tiger-Fever
