Limited Editions are the big craze right now, with everybody apparently trying to outdo one another.

I can't wait for the LE MGS4 which comes with your own AK47 and wheel mounted chicken-robot camera thing. Of course, you'll have to get your own friend to work the coms on the other end (unless you spend another $160,000/year for the Mega Deluxe Foxhound version)

Much better than the "soundtrack and making-of DVD" collectors editions out there. However, I usually only buy the special edition versions of games I really, really like, and as much as I enjoyed the last GTA, I wouldn't consider myself a huge fan of the series. I'll wait for some pics of the swag and an artist list for the soundtrack before making my decision. But as far as I know, there's not much else coming out in the fall that appeals to me, so I might just spring for it.

The limited edition craze at the end of last generation gave the developers the impression that a decent percentage of consumers would fork out an extra $10 for games.

The $49.99 price standard to the $59.99 price standard happened pretty fast. I'm not necessarily complaining. I'm just saying that this is what consumers are implying when they pay $130 for a game and a helmet made out of 5 cents of plastic, or a game and a sound track that costs them practically nothing to produce since they already bought the rights to the music anyway.

I don't buy limited editions of games personally, I'd rather put that extra cash towards gaming snacks/ beers or what have you. None of the collectors edition games in the past two generatinons ever became collectors items today anyway...

the only games I can think of that are considered collectors items are Panzer Dragoon Saga, Borderdown or Radiant Slivergun, and they didn't hype themselves up as being that way to begin with.

Look past the marketing people.

I guess he's referring to the fact that they used Renderware in GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas, The Warriors, Max Payne II, Bully and Manhunt. It really isn't that big a deal.
