I'll agree with pretty much everyone here. Cecil looks...wrong. I don't know if I'd be able to handle a brooding darknight who looks eerily feminine. Cecil was a badass, but this Cecil...ugh.

I for one am very excited about this news. I never had the opportunity to play FFIV in any of it's previous forms, and was ready to buy it for the GBA next month. But after this news, I'll gladly wait for the DS release, as I loved FFIII on the DS (even if it wasn't the best game in the series). Until FFIV is released for the DS, I'm going to buy the FFVI GBA version. I have heard such praise for that game, that I wouldn't feel right if I played it (for the first time) in any form other than it's original SNES style.

p.s.-Cecil's got some long dancer legs. He looks like a model walkin' the catwalk. Work it baby!

Still... I don't like this at all... I'd rather see the characters upgraded to fit Amano's art. The sprites looked the way they looked becasue they could do no more... We CAN do better now... Why make them look like 3d versions of the sprites??? Lame... lame, lame, lame, lame, lame, lame, lame...

Personally I will definetly buy this and im pretty surprised that so many people didn't like FF3 DS. I loved it. The job system is great and the graphics were amazing for the ds.
I do hope for 4 though they make it so when you use attack your character actually makes contact with the enemy. I hate the way in 3 you just take one step forward and swipe the air to inflict damage.

That said, I know I will buy this whenever it comes out. But I'm still going to grumble over it. FFIII was one thing, not having any other system I could play it on, but this is silly.

I don't know how we got into this whole 3D is better deal. 3D isn't necessarily better, and I always thought the SNES games looked just fine. Squashed pixelated sprites never bothered me. Squashed fully 3D models on the other hand...

One thing is for sure, the profit from sales wouldnt have covered it.

Not to mention the lack of thought put into your comments when you said X360, due to the fact of the low numbers of people owning it in Japan. The same could be said for the PS3 also, when both of those systems are put into comparison against how many people own DSes here.

The Final Fantasy III remake was really very good I thought. The main problem it had was the game itself was kind of boring. But the quality was good, and if they can do the same for FFIV without raping my memories of it, then I'll be quite happy.

I'd much rather play FFIV remade like FFIII than the FFIII remake.

So yeah Squenix, my wallet is open and ready for the raping.

FF1-2 was a port of a remake Square made for the Wonder Swan. 4-5-6 were just a port of the SNES version with added CG cutscenes a a few minor tweaks.

So this will be the first, "actual remake," of Final Fantasy 4.

I agree, but not anytime soon. My guess is that FF4 DS won't hit until next holiday season at the soonest, and even if Square puts out a new remake every year, I cannot imagine they'll get to 7 before Nintendo announces the Nintendo DS successor.

Heck, considering the age of the DS, they may not even get to six before Nintendo announces it.

So they remade 1 & 2 on Playstation, than on GBA, than there remaking it yet again on PSP, then 3 gets a remake on DS, now 4 gets remade on GBA and now its getting remade again on the DS?

Seriously, Square how about you remake every FF title on DS, PSP, PS3, Wii, and 360 just to satisfy everyone. I liked Square better when they only made games on ONE system.

The announcement of this game also carries some interesting implications for the possibility of other games in the series being redone. Regarding the FF7 remake on PS3, Square said that they wouldn't ever remake a game for a console on which the original version could be played. Yet here we have a new version of FF4 when the GBA version (obviously playable on the DS) was released a year and a half ago. Seems the cash flow from FFIII DS has caused them to change their minds.

I forsee plenty of commenters here decrying the decision to remake this, but personally the thought of playing such a classic and memorable game with a modern facelift has me very excited, and impending 3D versions of V and VI now seem likely on the DS. Hate on haters, but IMHO this is an incredible announcement for fans of classic FF.
