I could really get behind a Diablo MMO. Though, it seems like the economy and character building in WoW is very Diablo derivative.

I'd love to play a Diablo III, or a Starcraft II, but subscription fees are complete BS, IMHO. If they had a, say, per-minute pricing system, that might be interesting, though. Figure out the amount of time the average WoW player plays per month, get the per-minute pricing from that, and offer it as an alternative pricing option.

Then again I've became distant with Blizzard ever since a tech director from Bungie stopped at my game development school last year and warned us students not to work for Blizzard. They are at that corporate stage where their fanbase from WoW alone is so large that your expendable because there are plenty of WoW fanboys with a game degree ready to fill your spot. Not to discourage any Blizzard fans here, but I have had plenty of developer friends tell me this and ones that I have warned come back wishing they had listened."

Sad to hear from another developer. Nice to have your hopes and dreams crushed learning your favorite company is another EA.

Well it wasn't, and it's my opinion that Blizzard will never make another RTS again (sigh) or at least not for another few years. As other people have mentioned they're an MMO company now, its a simple economics decision and I cant blame them for going where the money is. So if there is going to be a Starcraft MMO, so be it. Great universe, possibility to be real time action oriented. I'll most likely play it, because I love crack.

I'd like to see Diablo become something between its original form (Hack'n'slash RPG) and God of War, perhaps bridging the gap to consoles.

Might be an entirely new franchise. Who knows? Not me. But I doubt it'll be the rumoured Northrend expansion for WoW.

It doesn't seem like Blizzard to unveil a new project that they haven't even started making yet- so it's unlikely that this MMO is the same game that's getting unveiled in May. And looking at that press release from yesterday(?), I think it's pretty likely that the May game is SC2.

It had best be. While the 3 races were cool, their design wasn't particularly original- the normal vs advanced/mystic vs savage isn't a new theme. The story was fun, but again nothing to go crazy over. The strength of Starcraft was in the balance of 3 different but equal races and the pacing of the gameplay. So we need SC2.

Put out an RTS to get people interested in the story again (and add depth to the universe), then drop the MMO bomb a couple of years later. WoW took what, 5 years to make? So if they announce Starcraft 2 (Announcing a game in Korea, it must be!) in May, it drops in late 2008 or early 2009. Starcraft Univerise or whatever hits in about 2011, 5 years from when they started hiring for a "next gen MMO" and just in time for people to finally leave WoW.

Quite the theory, I know, but it makes sense to me!

I could see a "World of Starcraft," to get the remaining geeks that have yet to be taken in by WoW. Three factions could be cool. And if they make it an FPS MMO (like Planetside) then I'll have to strap on the ol' adult diaper, because I might not get away from my computer ever again.

Diablo MMO could be interesting. Can you imagine a 40 man raid to kill Satan himself?

Those games had impossible amounts of swish emmitting from them. Two of my favourite games ever. If they so much as dare to make a 3D lost vikings game (mmo or not), I'll be very upset. And we all know that when gamers get upset, they kill.
