Also, since they're announcing this in Korea, and are busy working on the 2nd WoW expansion (it's true, they let some Northrend stuff slip into the latest test realm patch), this could very well be being developed by a seperate group than the main set of Blizz programmers and designers. Then again, they rake in so much money with WoW, they should be able to finance a whole new team anyway.

I doubt it'll be anything WoW related. There has to be a reason for Blizzcon happening again this year.

Really at this point they're set up for failure if it's anything BUT Starcraft 2 though. If they announce ANYTHING else it'll piss off more people that please. They've already said they'ed be pumping out a WoW expansion every year. They've already said they would be working on a whole new MMO. I just don't know if Blizzard wants to do something other than an MMO. You can't charge monthly fees to play an RTS online. (Or can you?!)

I'm prepared for "More WoW YAYLeetawesome we need $$!" or even "Hey! World of Starcraft! Same game with guns!"

Saying they mean to revisit the IP is not a confirmation of SC2. There any number of ways to use use the IP without making a RTS.

StarCraft II, a revamped StarCraft: Ghost, and possibly WarCraft IV (although that could still potentially detract from WarCraft III sales) are the most likely possibilities, if Blizzard doesn't pursue a new universe altogether. Both of Blizzard's RTS and console development teams have no announced games. Because of how Blizzard tends to operate, it is likely that at least one of these teams if not both of them are currently working on their own project.

I would be inclined to say StarCraft II is the most likely game to be announced with the information we have, especially if Hanbitsoft is a reliable source (Hanbitsoft, the distributor of StarCraft in South Korea, said in march that SC2 was in development and a beta would be available by year's end). We can also hope that Blizzard's new StarCraft League system and possible implementation of Penguin Plug features in the upcoming 1.15 patch is a test for such features in a new game. If Blizzard wanted to experiment with possible competitive systems (don't know the best word to use in English, sorry) for future RTS games, StarCraft is obviously the best candidate with its lack of an official ladder and the fairly recent collapse of the majority of third party ladders (most notably, the PGT in 2006 and the failed WGT Blizzard cooperation).

So... in conclusion I think that a new franchise or StarCraft II (or StarCraft: Ghost T_T) are the most likely candidates for being this upcoming game. I wouldn't be shocked if it was WarCraft IV, perhaps a little surprised but it's within the realm of possibility. As for a WoW expansion, Blizzard just released one and they're still fixing bugs in it. A new MMORPG or Diablo III would be last on my list of games to expect. It would be daft for Blizzard to release products which will compete with each other in such a short timeframe. And let's just remember here that the WWI is in South Korea where StarCraft is certainly the most dominant of all of Blizzard's games. Most of the money StarCraft generates nowadays is from South Korea and royalties from the Korean proleagues. I'm sure it would be prudent to test Korea's response to a StarCraft sequel relatively early to work on maximizing its attractiveness to the market.

Another WoW Expansion: We still need to fight arthras :( plus its the most likey since its Blizzard's main source of income, though I dont expect it to come out for another year.

Diablo 3: Though not sure if it'll still be an action rpg or it'll be turned to an MMO, since most of the stuff on WoW is based on Diablo, though I would say it'll be an Action Rpg.

Starcraft 2: no expaintion needed, though i would like to add its most likely gonna be an RTS and the next one in the franchise will be an MMO due to lingering plots.

Warcraft 4: Dunno if they're ever gonna release it, in my optionion I think Blizzard will wait till a third expansion [?] of WoW to come out before resuming its RTS side.

A competely new project: May never know.

Blizzard is making mountains of money off WoW right now. For 4 years, they have been raking it in in a way that is pretty much unprecedented in the video game industry. Why would they change that? Why would they go back to a traditionally priced game? They won't! Their executives wouldn't let them, even if they wanted to!

From what the PR person said, it doesn't sound like StarCraft 2. It sounded like she was trying to defuse the fanboys before they got their hopes up.

I bet that it's a new IP. Either that, or WoW2 (for PC & 360).

If I remember correctly, Games Workshop tried to sue Blizzard over the likeness of either the Terran Marines to Space Marines, the likeness of the Zerg to the Tyranids, or the general likeness of Orcs and Goblins in Warcraft to the Orcs and Goblins of Warhammer.

Their case got thrown out though and rather famously - as revenge - Games Workshop created a new Mini for the Tyranid Range, the Ravener, which looks and operates suspiciously like a Hydralisk (especially in it's current incarnation).

I think Blizzard tried to sue Games Workshop for that but it was thrown out as well.

My personal opinion?

Blizzard should be giving daily rimjobs to Games Workshop for the universe and art style they more or less completely ripped off for two separate franchises.

1 - Let me zoom the camera out. This was probably the most annoying thing about WarCraft 3.

2 - Never, ever, ever get rid of Use Map Settings. It's the only reason I still have StarCraft installed on my computer.

Otherwise, they can go ahead and fuck up the game just as much as they like. Turn it into an MMO, whatever. Just keep these 2 things and I will be a happy player.
