HOLD ON HERE! This is the 2nd major gaming blog site that has posted this as NEW!? WTF? Look I understand the articles dont' have to be news, but why refer to this as a new thing that hasn't been done before? Selling ff7 hentai isn't a new venture. I already knew the existence of FF7 ero-doujin by the time my gruby 12 year old hands got a copy of the US version of FF7 (fyi that was freak'n 10 years ago). Also I think they don't go after this stuff like they would in the US do the mere fact not that many people would think the company endorses it.

Also there isn't a lot of money to be made in this stuff.

Now there are a number of Japanese manga and anime creators who are angry about douijin especially the Yoai fan stuff that has characters that had no romantic connection going about it. Say Edward Elric and Furher King Bradley.

Some anime and manga artists got their stuff doing it and a number of major published guys still do some douijin stuff from time to time.

Some of the doujin artists are fairly well known.

If you look at the doujin stuff you can tell it's far better then most fan artwork would ever be. I suspect a lot of anime, manga companies look at doujins in order to recruit upcoming artists. So that would be another reason why it would be tolerated.

I don't know why you'd bring up this particular doujinshi over the other 100000000s out there on the FF series, but whatever. Doujinshis are NOT printed in small numbers so that they can hopefully slip under the radar, but rather they're printed in small numbers because these are fan works where each 'circle' (group) only have so big a fanbase, so they need to make sure they don't over print and lose money. With regards to 'under the radar', the japanese companies are much more tolerant (read 'not copyright obsessed') about things like this, as it helps build a fanbase, the groups aren't out to profit (when they could they usually turn professional, look at type-moon) and this type of thing has an entire culture over there already.
