All the ideas presented will make GW2 the best MMO of it's time. We all know original GW competes and exceeds WoW amazingly, and the new add ons that GW2 are going to allow will just kill WoW's drive. The only downfall in my opinion is the high level cap. Sure level 20 is low, but it also keeps PvP in check which is a big part of GW. I think they should make the cap higher, 35-40, but not unlimited or even a 100. I don't like the idea of you being a level 50-60 running around PvP arenas getting ganked so easily by higher levels. And if there was PvP lvl restricted areas that does solve the problem partially, but an unlimited level system would mean unlimited grind. GW has been known for it's many quests and it's great maxing level without grinding. But unlimited levels means unlimited quests, which just can't happen unless they manage to throw in new, humungous updates every week or couple days. The technical service involved would mean alot of money spending on Arena nets expense and yes GW2 will rack in the big bucks but it doesn't last. So subscriptions would end up coming like every other game. We all love GW for a few major reasons, the PvP system is the most balanced out of any MMO out there, the graphics are amazing, you don't have monthly fees, and PvE has an amazing storyline that just keeps getting sweeter. EOtN was pretty damn good. I liked it better then the first. But all I see in a real high level limit is a decrease in PvP, a bigger tension in Arena nets wallets and infinite grind. It will turn out like every other MMO.

ForthBefore

I have prophecies and nightfall, did not get Factions b/c heard that it wasnt that good. Playing NF now and I love it. Just saw GW2 preview on youtube...man it is amazing, the 3D graphics are off the hook. So for those people that want their char from previous games be transported into GW2, I don't think that will be possible.

Someone mentioned about your char improving physically as you progress higher lvl, that is absolutely the best idea, and I hope Anet uses your idea. Just Imagine your warrior all bulked up and muscle definition, and with 3D graphics it will look awesome. Scar's, and battle wounds will be awesome to.

The lvl being unlimited or up to 100 is awesome. My think was in prophecies once I lvl up to 20 I lost a chunk of interst of playing the. In NF its little bit different, maybe b/c I havent beat the game, and when I do I probably will lose interst playing it. So the cap being higher u have something to look forward for an acomplishment. B/c im not much of a pvp player so this will work good for me.

To Anet: U guys give us all these heroes to use why we can only use 3 at a time, why not be able to use 7 so u dun have to use henches? argh..lol.

I hope GW2 has alot of awesome armors andweapons to use, just buy watching the preview on youtube, im convinced Ill be getting the game.

TY for reading my article.
Peace..and go Buckeyes, third time is the lucky CHARM..:)

A58756

it makes sence that u cant bring guys from gw1 to gw2.
just think gw2 is like 100 years away from gw1 so ur guy would be like over 100 years old, just imagine an old dude climbing a tree or killing a huge fiery dragon. i dont really like the unlimited lvl system , but i do like the 100 lvl system. gw2 will completely destroy wow. if you think of the name world of warcraft it sounds nerdy.... then compare it to guild wars it sounds like an incredible game. i think anet should give gw2 a subtitle. an awsome name would be like Guild Wars 2 Rise of the Ancient Dragons. it sounds awsome. and put in secret places that you find by going over a mountain finding a lost cave and you can find like some sort of treasure.or you find the sunken city of orr. wow u are about to go kill a boss and get somme really cool item from him you find that another player has already killed him and you have to wait like a week for him to spon. so a week later. " finally he sponed again now to go kill him" he goes and says" not again some one else killded him.
i like the idea of a personal exploring area.anothe retarted thing about wow is that if you do manage to find the boss u have been trying to kill alone ur about to kill him and.... oh a horde kills you,so you get really mad you go back to the boss and u find the same horde group the boss dead and your health at 0. i think guildwars 2 is going to be the best game ever much much much better than wow.

cooo

Now for GW2

for everyone that wants to move a person from GW1 to GW2 that would be impossible 'cause Anet said that there would be 5 races and whole new classes and probably none of the same. Which is what i read from another site

GeodeW

Ok first

@ All those WoW fans.

Don't Post here, just don't.

I quit wow cause I was tired of having to spend 20 minutes walking some were only to get on a 5 minute flight to were I need to go, because the stuppid hearth stone hadn't recharged (weak). And starring at some childs drawing forever sucked, even on it's highest settings it looked like crap, GW on the other hand looks AMAZING on high res, hi detail.

"The only reson I let WoW exsist, is because it funds SC2" quote from simple truths of the world.

@ Worried GW fans About no level Caps.

From what I've read the no level cap will only help in PvE, in pvp every one will be evened to a level playing field, some what like the special battles durring events. And there will be designated sections of the map for PvE/PKing (no this is not pvp, ganking dosn't count, ever) And the arenas can be expected to have even larger "Grouped Team" fighting like the alliance battles, maybe 6 teams per side. But the core matches will probably remain smaller to keep skill prominent.

As far as the persistance, as long as there are still some instanced areas, and map warping, in some way, is kept, this game will be a hit. Maybe some more skill slots, Like 20 for pve, and pking, but only 8 or 10 for arena play, any more is just to much for skill synergy to matter as much.

Zoke

What I want to know most, is what will happen to the PvP system, such as Hero's Ascent and Guild Battles. With a wider range of levels, from using PvE characters, players will be unmatched, therefore possibly deleting those arenas. GW2 will definitely have interesting changes from GW1.

Sindefy

I just hope that they keep pvp only chars (maybe soldiers who's soles got trapped in the mists or sommin), or a way to change your primary class (IF they keep that system) couse half the fun in the current GW is being able to be a monk one day and a mesmer the next, without having to spend a couple days lvling up to 20 and doing the 2 missions to gaet 200 atribut points.

I also hope that the boundless lvls don't mean boundless stats, at least for pvp (i know some have said that it won't). what i'd like to see, is stats increasing till around lvl 50 or so, after that higher lvls will unlock special area's and maybe weapon skin add-ons (i'd love to be able to aply a fire aura to my weapons).

if this double posts with my last message i apologize, but it's been 5 hours and it hasn't posted, so i just retyped it.

Ok Gw 2, sounds great and all from that, but I am a very casual gamer, the whole reson I've quit play WoW on private servers is becouse even with *10-20 xp it still took along time to be able to fight with other people on a lvl you could do anything besides get one shotted. So the unbounded level is a small turn off, along with the same char for pvp. That makes it sound like there gona get rid of PvP only chars. That means that it will be impossible to rapidly change what role you play. You won't be able to be a mesmer one day and a warrior the next.

My suggestion is, one A-Net should keep pvp chars.
Soldiers that got trapped in the mists but were inbuined with...max stat powers. Somin like that could fit...I think. I'd rather have the lvl system work something like this. Level 1-50,70 or so, you gain stats, Atribute points. AFTER that levels give you unlocks to special areas (chalenge missions) and weapon skin unlocks (flaming auras, cool visual eye candy like that). Were the pvp only peeps are trapped in the mists with lame gear, but work great for the guy like me. The pve guys can unlock bad !@# mods and get access to cool areas, WITHOUT making another grind from hell for no reson.

@NEWDAMAGE, I agree with you alot, titles should do more than "ooo lookit...nothin happend realy" and a bunch of cap sigs would be realy handy XD

@EGAG Stealthing would be a great PvE only skill for assasins, but in pvp it just makes a pvp power house class like rouges in WoW.

if you don'g agree with me, pls don't flame. simply add your input.

it is ok to flame my pore spelling though, i can't spell for crap.

Readin back (wich took a bit) a lot of people have made comments pertaining to the lvl cap. I don't care as long as i can quickly change from class to class, i'm just tryin to work in a way to unlock the cool weapon auras XD

So, I have every Guild Wars expansion. Prophecies has so far been my favorite, I've played Factions, and didn't really get into Nightfall, but I want to. This EoTN sounds really interesting, and I'd love to get into it, I have yet to see the armors, and I hope they're nice.
Also, this whole, 'have your own monument' thing, that tracks your achievements and that can be transfered to GW2, and used to get clothes, mini pets, etc, it sounds really intriging.
Now I need to get I'm Really Important title. Damn.

smexayness

i think think that there shoul be a stealth mode in GW2 or somthing to that effect. so that if you needed to get somewhere and looked down the trail and saw like 15 enmy npcs you could climg a tree and hide or hold your breath underwater till they passed by. i also think that ANet should eliminate being able to see enemies, friends, and creatures on the minimap while still being able to see the envirement. i was also wondering when gwen and GW2 will come out, any one know?

egag

A few People are worried as to whether all the work they've done on their characters from GW1 will be able to be carried over to GW2. Personally I don't think it should, I mean what's the point of starting a new game and having max armor or having an armor set that looks the same? I mean even if you have the most expensive armor why would you want to have that same style through GW2 when there is going to be all these new and way cooler styles out?, I guess I can understand about skills though, they should give us a free cap signet for every elite we've caped or something…

Another thing, I don't think character level and titles should exist in a written form. Instead as your character levels up he/she should look more physically stronger, more battle ready. I mean like if you get a title it should be represented by a cool addition to the way your character looks, not some worthless written title under your name, maybe like a battle scar or halo or even just a glow that your character gets, something along those lines. Also this way you can have an idea of how strong a character is but not now exactly, which I think would make for more adventurous game play.

One last thing, I am way more into pve, and one thing that still bothers me is the way npc look so lifeless, I mean go into any town and you get this perfect row of henches!, its like wtf? They have no personality, and that goes for all npc's!, although I truly dig GW there so many things that can be improved on but I do have faith that GW2 will be a truly freakin amazing game, and cant wait to get my hands on a copy!!

I see that there is no level cap and i see that some people have commented on it but i cant believe that no one has even thought about how that will work, becuase each level after 20 will probably give no more attributes becuase then it would be like other games where how good you are depends on how long you've played. So I dont see the point of a higher level then 20 becuase i was thinking about , what will each level after level 20 give you apart from skill points? and is there a point in any level over 20 apart from showing people how much you've played kind of like a title ?
so i hope someone else comments on this so i can see what no level cap is all about!!

Thrylos

You know, so I've been playing Gw since Damn Day 1. I also played WoW from damn day 1 as well. And trust me Guild Wars 2 is defenetly not copying, or losing its "GUILD WARS" true value. I think it will make the game even BETTER THAN it already is. If anything, people should stop worrying if Guild Wars and Arena Net change things around a little bit. I mean common, when this game first came out NOONE believed how good it would be to this day and so on.
Give GW a little credit, Im pretty sure theyknow what theyre doing, they dont want to lose their already exisisting fans of the game just to change around a few things in GW2.

ricraq1

I didn't play guild wars for a year. Then I had enough free time to play and I was able to instantly begin having fun playing pvp. That's what Guild wars is about. The skill of the people playing, not characters that are more powerful because people have played it longer.

With guild wars two, ANET is simply going to incorporate all of the positive aspects of MMORPGS (non instanced environments, more social activity, ability to jump and swim and more fun just exploring) with their unique style of skill-orented pvp.

End result? They keep the Guild Wars fans they have now, and draw some of the more traditional WoW type fans to Guild Wars.

For a second I was worried about their not being a level cap. Then I read that for PvP this will not apply. So ANET, in my opinion, are designing the monster MMORPG. One MMORPG to rule them all.

sirtwizt

I really respect what GW1 tried to do, and I agree that it was sucessful for what it was. However, I could never get into GW1 for a number of reasons. I found the abilities unintuitive and difficult to understand, the interface clunky, the environs and background stories uninspired, and the social interface extremely limited. I also missed a persistant world, quite frankly. In some ways I really wanted to like this game more than WoW, but I couldn't.

On the other hand, WoW has all the common pitfalls of a typical MMO. For example, progression slowed to a halt at the level cap, the persistent world limited the complexity of non-instanced content, content is stretched out by endless grinds, and other flaws that I need not mention.

GW2 sounds like it'll seek a happy medium between the traditional MMOG and the GW1 model. I sure hope that it will be everything they are claming it will be.

wenry

Whey i have been w8in 4 ages to find out wot happens with the charr as they were and are my favorite race YAY!!
Personally i think that keeping GW subscription free and raising the level cap ANet has made GW th best MMO game around
WoW for me was a let down and after playing for 1 month i realised i had wasted my money and continued playin GW after not playing for a few months without a subscription it allows me and other layed back players to play for intervals then stop have a social life and comback to this MMO when ever we want so for me i will definately be lookin foward to GW2 and GW:EN and will buy both.

Gwen: Yay i have always wondered where she went after the searing at the begining of prophecies and i am hoping that her story isnt a let down.

as many other people have comented i am also wondering what will happen to my characters from GW1 as i have spent alot of time perfecting them; especially my MONK (Monks FTW) who has all skills from each campaign all major builds set up and ready to use with own amr sets from each campaign and to not be able to continue his story onto GW2 would be a great let down and he wud be soorly missed

that is all XXOXX

I loved playing the first GW and bough factions and lost interest and never ended up getting nightfall. I am really excited about GW2 mainly because of again fee free. one of the things i liked about most was the lvl cap at 20. this made the game more focused on skill capping than like every mmo out there based on lvling. however after beating the game i could nvr really get into pvp and so i didnt really have any goals like u would in a mmo (lvling). so as long as the kept the cap at 20 for pvp and gave us a higher lvl cap for pve i would be very happy.

as to transfering characters from gw to gw2 i dont see how that would really work with gw2 being some time after gw1. unless they had the whole descendent thing where you could use ur ancestor's armor or something.

im excited to hear that they will have a persistent world as long as lvling would still be quest based and focus on teamwork than camping a boss spawn.

things that i would like:
having action be real time would put a nice spin on it and bring a whole new feel to online rpgs.

making it so u could pick to fight for good and evil.

different ways of transportation (ex. horses, dragons, rafts etc.) of course this is getting closer to WoW. unless u were to add random spots where u would get knocked of your horse by a raiding party. (this could be by npcs or by other players)

anyway enough of me wishing. all in all GW2 looks awesome and i cant wait to see more of it in the future.

btw i will not be getting GW:EN. i have better things to spend my money on: gas :)

I quitted WoW because of the TBC even more grind content and turned back to GW. Got all 3 of them and enjoy it more and more for every day I play it.
Prophecies and Nightfall got some of the best PvE content while Factions added more PvP.
Still Factions has a great story line and PvE part.
And I like that you cant do the same runs in the last two campaigns like in Prophecies.
In my opinion every campaign adds something to mix togheter with eachother, so you actually dont get the waste of time completing one and going to another.

What I find nice about guildwars:

No kill lot of monsters grind, every PvE aspect is quest and missions that follow along the storyline.
Instanced quests and missions, so you will never have annyone camping a boss or objective.
Max party group is 8, plus you can use npc henchmen or hero's, so even casual players can advance all the way, there will always be enough online to group up with.

Better graphics, personaly I always found WoW looking to cartoonish.

Overlapping PvE content between the campaigns, means if you finished factions on a character, you can still continue to explore the content of Prophecys/Nightfall with it.
Factions is a bit more PvP based compared to the other 2 campaigns.

The most balanced PvP in anny mmo, there are 1 on 1 fights where all classes got a chance to win!

No repair costs, no potions and all endgame armor doesnt differ in stats, which means even casuals can go dungeons on the same base as the more hardcore players.
Dungeons got some weapon loots, elite skills and materials for more exotic armor pieces. Different armor is more for the look, and weapons to have some with other stats.

Upcomming exspansion which will prepare GW for GW2
Guild halls on own islands, where you can do pvp vs guildmates, other guilds, or do things like playing dodgeball.

Option to play with friends that dont live in europe.

No lag, no gold spammers and no monthly fee.

So Im indeed looking forward to GW2, I think they will keep the magic. ;)
I'm not really happy with the high level cap idea, won't that just screw PvP up? You won't be able to PvP with your PvE characters properly if they're all dodgey levels. Plus there's no goal to get to if there's boundless levels.
I already get bored getting to level 20, hehe..
But it might be more fun doing it in GW2, it's hard to judge without even playing it yet.

IF you are able to get your already made GW1 characters to GW2 maybe they wouldn't get any higher than level 20? Otherwise that would scew GW1 up...
It sounds like GW2 is going to be a lot more complicated.

Jinxy

I would very much like to be able to experience the GW 1 environment, mechanics, lore and community through a GW 2 character rather than have a GW 1 character do vice versa. I believe this will be easier for the developers to do and will result in a better experience. And have items in GW 2 that can only be obtained if characters temporarily travel back in time to GW 1. Of course, this would only be for those who already own GW 1 titles.

jc100

I have been an avid gamer of GWs + Factions + Nightfall and I have loved them all, I will even buy the expansion pack. However I am concerned that GW2 may not allow all of my characters into the new game and hence relinkquesh them useless. This would seriously upset me enough as to not purchase GW2 and ultimatly force me to start playing WoW.
I am hoping that anet will have a stargate that can port all of my characters 100 years into the future and into the GW2 game, so all will not be lost.

DJRoar

I like the sound of this so far, but am a little worried that GW2 might not allow our GW's characters entry into the new area. I would hope that we could bring them across even it it meant that they only come across with a few starter skills or something.
I have spent so much time on all my characters and would not be very happy if they became unusadble in the new GW2.

DJRoar

i am a HUGE guild wars fan and i love the idea of what Anet said about all this. The only thing i'm concerned about is one qustion that i have. The question is "can you bring your GW1 characters to wherever GW2 takes place? if you can, i would definitely enjoy that because if i had to start over i would probably kill myself. Yes, they probably mentioned my question in the story above but i wasnt really paying attention while i was reading it. but also, i personally thing GW is WWWWWAAAAAAAYYYYY better than Wow. especially when its going to be just as competitive when GW2 comes out.

imwithstupid

Now this is why i enjoy GWs better than WoW, you don't have to think about the cost ^^
I was thinking that guild wars was a bit off, with there not being many features outside towns...
I know you can talk, fight, collect etc etc. but climbing trees and swimming sound like a great improvment.
GW imho is superior to WoW simply because the graphics are not like some kid's cartoon. Although I have to admit the only good thing about Factions was Alliance Battle, Prophecies and Nightfall are seriously good games. The trouble is that WoW is promoted a lot in shops in Europe while you are lucky to find a copy of GW. This makes the European GW server pretty empty and boring. I switched to the American server where GW has a big following and it is a lot more fun and active. Try getting past the noob stages before saying GW is boring because the further you progress the more interesting and fun it becomes. The only thing I would change is to add some areas where pvp and pve meet - places where you can gank fellow gamers and steal their stuff but the rewards are high to make them want to gamble.

witch

The main thing who had driven me to GW was the philosophy to have a game where the real difference between players is just the personal experience and ability to use skills, rather than bein there for years (lvl 9999 vs lvl 1) or to be so lucky to get the uber-god-like-item who makes a lvl 1 newbie real hard to kill for even high lvl pgs. PvE pg lvl uncapping maybe is somewhat dangerous to this, right now some areas already got the no-20-no-party minded ppl, uncapping lvls maybe will worsen this. Persistend worlds have persistent problems: spawn camping, etc, u all knows this, hope they care bout it^^

Micio2

I have read the PCGAMERS article on GW2 + GW:EN and i am even more excited than the other chapters, i must make a suggestion though:
Instead of removing the old charaters, why not mix the new charaters with the old E.g(A warrior with the leadership of a paragon, Because Warriors were made leaderseven before nightfall came out. Also you could mix a rit with a necro, because necromancers already had connections with the dead).

@justhesh: Like I said, I would happily pay a fee if it ensured game quality. I worry slightly that ANet's business structure might be causing the gradual downfall of their customer service and server support. The interview even made it seem like they are getting somewhat reluctant towards their no-fee stance (long pregnant pause?). Like maybe now they may feel that they are stuck with it.

If they can somehow make this new game work with just the money made from box/expansion sales and not sacrifice support and services for it then more power to them.

Archetype

I hope their stubborn attitude about no subscription fee doesn't turn around and bite them in the ass. I certainly don't mind paying a fee for a persistent game, as long as it compels the developer to keep quality up and improve the game's infrastructure. You pay for what you get.

I love GW's world and atmosphere but could never get deep into the end game and all the collection of skills, etc. I just got behind and never caught up (actually, now that I think about it, I tried to keep up, but got those annoying error=007 disconnect errors for the longest time, I had to quit!).

I will definitely be keeping my eye on this as it develops.

Archetype

@ moonfirelol: If GW "tried to 'kill' WoW", then why did ArenaNet make a game that is so completely different from what WoW is like? Surely if your game is trying to be a "WoW-killer" would you not try to take the WoW model (which is pretty similar to most MMORPGs, let's be honest), copy most of it, tweak it a bit, put your own spin on it, then release it?

I don't think ArenaNet were trying to "kill WoW" as you say. I think they were trying to provide something different from other online games, and in that respect they succeeded. ArenaNet did not create another bog-standard MMOG, or even an MMOG at all.

There is enough room in the online gaming market for different types of games to exist. Just look at some the new online games in development: on based on White Wolf's World of Darkness (modern gothic horror), Exanimus (zombie MMORPG), Aion: The Tower of Eternity (demons, angels, draconic races in PvPvE conflict, flight, aerial combat), etc.

Online games do not begin or end with WoW.

Brinstar

@radink: Guild Wars isn't an MMOG. ArenaNet have never called GW an MMOG. It's the uninformed gamers who have decided that, because GW is an online game that has some similarities to MMOGs, it surely must be an MMOG as well.

As a long-time GW player, I am cautiously optimistic about the GW2 information. I'm very eager to learn what happens in Eye of the North and what GW2 holds in terms of story.

@ Anthriel: I share some of your misgivings about GW2 coming more in line with other MMOGs, but I think (and hope) there are enough differences that it isn't simply a "WoW clone". However, I don't think GW1 was a failure.

Brinstar

I liked nightfall, even though factions was kind of meh.I really hope they fix how the story is explained because that was one of the biggest flaws on Guild Wars, you couldnt really give a damn about the story even if you try(except in nightfall,it was kind of cool).

Also they should work on how the abilities look, most of the Elementalist abilities look like fire works.

I hope they introduce new abilities and please give the damn monk something,is so damn boring to play as a monk.Yes every pary needs a monk but why you want to be a character that is only there to help others.Although is needed give him speed or something to make it fun like in NVN.

Hater3000

@Anthriel:

The level cap for PVP is still there, they've already said that for PVP everyone will still remain on an even playing field. It's only PVE that you can now reach unlimited levels, and it also seems like it will be purely cosmetic. I'm a big time Guild Wars fan, and I really don't see the problem with that, all they're doing is expanding the replayabilty of the PVE.

And they only ever added four new classes, and all of them are still pretty unique.

I can't really see any reason to complain here, they're offering something for free, that other companies force us to pay for. If you'd rather stick to WoW, then by all means go ahead, but I've always prefered Guild Wars, and this new sequel just seals the deal.

WinterSnowblind

great article!

This is why i love ArenaNet, and why I don't play other MMORPG games. I don't pay for a game more than once. Fortunately, it seems ArenaNet agrees with that philosophy.

Atheist Jew

I'm glad they're continuing to offer it for free. I wasn't very impressed with the original Guild Wars (I have Guild Wars: Factions, I believe), but that's simply because I'm not a fan of MMORPGs in general--the actual game is a fairly good MMORPG (for what that is worth).

Couple that with playing for free and it was an automatic winner in my opinion.

Baramos

Wow, I'm pretty suprised that they're sticking with the whole "no subscription" thing. I'm impressed though, I'll definately be picking this game up.

Limey
