Does anyone else hate the idea of controlling a fairy that guides Link where to go? Just watching a useless fairy flying around the screen, leading Link sans D-pad control makes me cringe. It's a bad, gimmicky idea. Why do they have to experiment with the handheld titles? Can't they take them just as seriously as the console games?

itcomesinwaves: Pacman VS. is the bomb! Just hearing Mario say things like "Pac-Man ate a power pellet!" made it worth the purchase, IMO. :)

Oh yeah, and I love the Wind Waker art style.

Having played Animal Crossing, FF3, Metroid Prime Hunters all using stylus control, I always found myself switching back and forth. But in the end, no matter how natural I told myself the d-pad was, I would subconsciously pick up the stylus and just go. I think its b/c I've got fairly large hands, so the DS-Lite cramps my hands when I play d-pad games (Mario Kart DS was the worst for this.)

@Noob - Hotel Dusk, though great in its own way, was the worst stylus-control I've ever played on DS, so that shouldn't be representative of a typical control scheme.

Oh, and Windwaker's graphics were kick-ass imo.

OrionTheSmiter

I think the Animal Crossing stylus-walking controls are neat. He's following my stylus omg!!

It seems the stylus controls the fairy which Link follows, which is how I thought Twilight Princess was going to be early on (very very early on, I realized otherwise the first day they announced the pointing fairy).

egyptiansushi

Oh man, I'm going to be horribly disappointed if we have to use the stylus to move dude around the screen. I already got a taste of that with Hotel Dusk, and, really, truly, I don't wanna have to do that all through an entire Zelda game. :(
@mashuren:

Actually, I think the problem with the stylus control in animal crossing was that it took so bloody long for your character to run about, there was also a weird third-person perspective and a jagged frame rate.

If you notice the way that link moves around with the stylus in the video, he seems to be far more nimble than Animal Crossing characters.

I dunno, I hated the idea at first, but I'm willing to give it a shot. I AM hoping that they give alternative controls as well, in case people are misunderstanding me. I just think that the stylus-based controls shouldn't be shot down before they're even tested.

I never played FF3, so I can't tell you anything in contrast to that.

Ichidou

make that three. I loved the Wind Waker style. It's still the best cell shaded game I've ever seen and comes up third on my favorite Zelda list...Marjora's Mask, TP, WW. I hope they actually finish WW2.
------------------------------------------------

Phantom Hourglass looks great on DS with the exception of the low res textures but that's to be expected on limited hardware. Good frame rate, good animation...it almost looks like the Cube version...almost. The multiplayer looks suspect though. I was hoping for some kind of co-op mode but single player is going to be the reason I pick this up.

Striderhayasa - Phillyyakk on PSN and Live.

I totally loved the art of Wind Waker. The game was pretty good, but the sailing got old after a while. This game looks pretty badass. The four player mode looks like it has some PacMan elements to it.

Did anyone else ever play PacMan Vs on the gamecube (with the gameboy advance connector)? One person played as PacMan on the gameboy screen and everyone else played as ghosts on the TV screen. Loads of fun with 3 or more people.

itcomesinwaves

I can't wait for my tax return - there seems to be countless good games coming out causing that are making me jump for joy.

Hmm.... My only question is - why can't other companies take a 3d approach like this? Sprite graphics may not be the be all and end all, but if you can make it work it is quite the cool style, and 3d games on the DS aren't plentiful (at least to my knowledge - Metroid, Mario, Final Fantasy and...?). The DS really is turning out to be the king of hand helds.

KeithC

I love the look of Windwaker and Phantom Hourglass is turning out just as awesome. Zelda is one of my favorite franchises because they can have the two conflicting styles of the more light, child-like appearance and attitude of Windwaker, and the darker and decidedly adult aspects of games like Twilight Princess, with both being obviously and seamlessly Zelda.

I just hope they smooth out some of those lines.

iwanttobeasleep

While delays are rather common from Nintendo, I'm glad the games are not released until deemed of a quality ready to be top notch. Not to go too off topic, I play a lot of a certain MMORPG and its expansions while fun tend to glaringly lack polish and bug testing. It's very refreshing to play console games that are indeed polished.

One need look no further than Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness or some recent Sonic titles to see console gamers are not very forgiving of a lack of polish in a release. So, while I admit I have far less GameCube games than PS2 games, it's because of that polish Nintendo puts into its games that I always find myself rooting for Nintendo.

Zunnoab
