@ darkened-flame: Watching this on mute isn't that smart. You're missing them describing lots of things that you're not seeing.

And to those of you saying that this is nothing more than a level-maker, you probably need to take the mute off as well. Right near the beginning they say that to unlock items you need to play through the game, so this DOES have some sort of gameplay other than a level-maker.

But I do partially about the 'no enemies' argument in that if there aren't any it might get old quicker than if there were. However, while they haven't confirmed the presence (or lack thereof) of enemies, it still might be pretty fun without them. They were sort of limited on time so there's probably lots more cool interactions and customizations available during real gameplay.

Bunisher

K111 said: How about a discussion on how 'Home' is rather blatant theft from multiple sources, just for example?

I'm not impressed by PlayStation Home, but to say it is a blatant theft of other sources is kind of silly. I think Spore looks to be an amazing game, and all it is is a bunch of other games all put together.

I have had absolutely zero interest in a PS3 until now. This definitely isn't worth $600 plus it would cost to get the PS3 and this game, but maybe in nine years when the PS3 is $200 and the new "slim" model is released. . .

Creation is fun. Cooperative creation looks even more fun. I'm definitely intrigued by what is possible here. It's not enough to sell a PS3 to me, but I'm more interested than I was previous to watching this video.

Deozaan

Re: The "Point"

Um...it's a puzzle platformer. You're supposed to use your imagination in combination with platformer skills to deal with a myriad of challenges in the form of physics based puzzles.

Makes sense to me.

The additional appeal comes from the heavy use of physics based objects to solve each puzzle. Every person has a natural intuition of physical movement, so these puzzles should be accessible to everyone. There are no abstractions like random levers or buttons. All the interconnectivity between key and lock is on display right from the get go.
It's not going to make me want to buy a PS3, but it is going to make me envy PS3 owners. Level editors add a TON of value to games. Just look at Mega Man Powered Up. It seems that almost everybody wants to buy a PS3 because of that. Ok, it looks nice and all, but it's not a real game, and I think it will only create another game community, which will spend a lot of time to make their own level, but the large audience won't see the interest. Nice, but it isn't worth the purchase of a 600$ console. Good thing for Sony, but not a killer ap

chaman_shimano

I am amused at how many people online are saying "I was thinking about a 360 or PS3, but this physics demo has convinced me!!!" It's disturbingly sycophantic and seems completely insincere. Unless you're 12 years old and giggle at the sight of anything with big eyes and a wet nose, this isn't a title that will wrestle $600 from you wallet. I'd really love to see some serious analysis of what Sony's current position in the market is, it does after all affect everyone no matter what console they own, but instead we get spikes of criticism followed by spikes of fawning slobber with no long term analysis at all. How about a discussion on how 'Home' is rather blatant theft from multiple sources, just for example? I think that would be more interesting, but like others have said, I'm definitely not in the majority that are excited for this title.

K111

I wish you could add enemies and maybe some simple programmable A.I (really simple, like "see player, shoot snot ball"). THEN I'd drop the $600 easy just for this game.

As of right now it's like playing in an empty level, void of enemies or intellegence. Think about walking through a Gears or Half-life 2 level with no enemies. Sure it looks good, but I do need a challenge somewhere. MAKING the levels seems like the only draw right now... not playing them.

I just watched the entire keynote on gamespot(thanks HobbaHobba) and all I can say is sweet. @AvocadoOverboard

Coming from a non-FPS fan, I can say that there is already one great co-op FPS out there.. Resistance. My roommate and I usually don't play many FPS, although we do enjoy some shooter games, mainly the scary themed games (read: Resident Evil, Silent Hill). But Resistance has been great, we've played through the game twice co-op, and are anxiously waiting to see if the upcoming additional content will push us for a third run-through.

Back onto the subject... This game looks fun, I'm not sure if it will hold that appeal after I've bought it and wasted a couple weeks of my life on it (I agree that a lack of enemies may take my interest away), but I will definately be trying it as soon as I can get my dirty lil fingers on a copy. Usually I don't even attempt to build my own levels in games, but this actually looks like something I might want to try... and the fact that you can build a level co-op is definately a plus!

YouReflectionBG

@pushmonk: Nope, I can promise you, you aren't the only one not "getting it." Though others have already said the same.

There are going to be people who totally love this game and swear by it, and there are going to be people who really couldn't care less. I'm distinctly in the latter category. Watching the players romp around in a predesigned world didn't look bad, but this clip bored me to tears. I had to force myself to finish viewing it.

I hate to say this, but anything this open-ended also leaves the potential for visual design abuse just hanging there. Expect to see plenty of phallic-themed worlds, etc.

Digital_Sky

This game goes a long way toward getting me off the fence.
I'm still not going to pay 600 for it, but I accept that if this software and more compelling software like it are released consistently, I'll have no choice.

On the negative side, 'littlebigworld' and 'home' both have the potential to get ridiculous with micro-transactions and in-game advertising.
this is the single most impressive thing i've seen for the ps3 thusfar.

if you can create your own enemies and save your levels, i think i might be sold (when the ps3 becomes affordable, i mean).

can you imagine making a zombie themed level and creating all kinds of gametypes and worlds and ACK!... nerdgasm.

coin_operated_boy

I think that is a huge step in the right direction for PS3. It looked visually great, the controls seemed pretty good, the physics were top notch, and I think it does a good job of stealing some of Nintendo's innovative thunder.

MJDeviant

I have to agree with some others here. What is the point to this game?

From a previous demo we saw 4 characters traversing the landscape to get from Start to Finish but there where no interactive elements aside from what you could jump on and grab - all of which have no adverse reaction. There is no risk to playing this game which is something that all games use to motivate the player (even something as simple as nintendogs - you have to look after your pet otherwise it will die)

I agree the graphics are visually stunning but how many 'landscapes' do you see yourself creating with this game before you get bored? Also, how much do you think this game is going to cost?

To fully enjoy this game they are going to have to introduce more elements aside from the 'SimCity' style it currently has.

Hey, this isn't the only attempt at a game creating games, look at Mario vs Donkey Kong March of the minis. It has a level editor (okay not graphically as attractive as LittleBigWorld) but I don't even think it's something I would bother with more than once or twice and would probably be more inclined to download other peoples maps if I feel I want to play another game.

I'm still not convinced that I want a PS3.

It does look like a huge amount of mindless fun, and I can see some really fun puzzles, or just messing around with friends, but it does raise some concerns.

1. Size. How big can these "levels" be? Will they be persistant at all? Can you save, load, download, upload them?

2. Challenge. I see plenty of challenges in creating the world, and building the platform riddles and just messing around, but are there any besides that? Enemies, holes, etc.. can I recreate the levels from Mario 64, or at least, Super Mario Brothers?

The game looks fantastic as far as graphics and smoothness, and really interesting as far as what I've seen.

I may get hooked on it at some point but with other competition I fear this may be a forgotten tech demo.

Scuba Steve
