@quen: No, all other systems are back for sale, only the Dreamcast isn't, in any of the shops I went. I got a new, boxed set of first party Maraccas though, and it was very cheap...

If your DC isn't reading games properly any more, you can calibrate the laser to try to get it to read games again. I've corrected many "broken" DCs doing this. It's just a matter f slightly turning a little screw on the back of the laser assembly. Lots of tutorials can be found on the subject.

the dreamcast is the best system ever created , all this comming from someone who owns allt he major systems in existance except the ps3 , AND recently repurchased the DC off ebay with Jest Set Radio , Seaman , Sonic Adventures and Shenmue!

I love my Dreamcast, but so far I've had my launch unit die out on me (the last time it boot up was 9/9/04... five years after I bought it. Then I had my next preowned console die on me... I'm pretty sure the DC has a very high console death rate. But since the DC is my favorite system, I've since purchased a brand new DC off of eBay and two more preowned systems just in case any of them decide to break.

It's kind of funny that Japan was the reason Sega ditched the Dreamcast in the first place and now everyone there loves the system.

Waaaaay back in the day I had a Dreamcast with VGA cable hooked up to an actual VGA arcade monitor in an arcade cabinet with the dreamcast wheel mounted. MSR and the Ferrari game made me wet my pants a bit. A dreamcast re-release with a new wireless controller would own. Side note -Dreamcast emulated MAME perfectly ;-)

@Flazh: I remember them asking for around 78000Yen for a 20gb PS3 the day they launched last year. Putting some of their prices in perspective (I convert everything into pounds even though I left the UK 5 years ago), they can be reasonable for some old kit. $20 N64? not too shabby.

There aren't any dreamcasts in stock? By Kotaku Commenter Shelf-Logic, it must be outselling Wii. :)

About the power supply thing somebody mentioned - it's not that Japanese law that came in a while back banning sale of outdated electronics or something (possibly due to dangerous chemicals or whatever, I dunno)? There was a fuss at the time that it would prevent sale of old game consoles but I don't remember what came of it, if anything.

Imagine a dreamcast with a 20gig harddrive, read gd's and dvd's, wifi the sega network back online , firefox browser and a live arcade like service for 100 bucks. i think with its expansive library and its homebrew community, the DC couldbe the perfect 3rd or 4th system and just might compete with the wii.

Wow, they sold out that fast? I was just at that Super Potato three days ago, and they had three to four consoles there. One of them was in the hands of what looked to be a potential buyer. He was giving it the "Hmm, should I buy this?" look.

I wonder if they're picking it up for Triggerheart Exelica or for Karous? Or both? Or something else?

I think a redesigned budget priced Dreamcast could be money for Sega. Bundle it with some best of games and let the money roll. Or at least start getting some of those classics on one of the other systems as a downloadable.

Haha, I was standing in front of the same shelf two weeks ago. The staff told me Dreamcasts are not sold in shops anymore, apparently because of some problems with the power supply/cable. (My Japanese is somewhat limited, so I might got it wrong).

I got one from Rakuten with no problems though.

The Dreamcast is still with no doubt in my mind the best system I've ever owned and easily the one I'm emotionally the most attached to.

I still have a mint Hello Kitty version in transparent pink with all the matching peripherals factory sealed.

Does anybody know what happened to SEGA's plans to completely halt GD-ROM production? Did they really go through with it? That would be what I call losing the last little touch with reality, not to mention your fans.

Ah, Dreamcast...my favorite means of virtual fishing...Just ordered "Maken X" off of Amazon as well, had no idea it was the Shin Megami Taisen people. Someone should post up those old "Dreamcast Online" commericals with the DC inserting its cord into the back of a phone, those were fun.

But yes, if anyone has a answer to Witzbolds query, please do respond. A whole DC retrospective/guide (purchasing/games/retailers) would be helpfull. And does anyone know if anyone sells generic Sega Genesis consoles like they do for the Famicom and the Super Famicom? Someone just gave me NHL 95 and its soon to be "on".
