Dateline Bejing:
A 150 kg man was found dead in his apartment on Thursday last week. When police were going through his stuff (its China no warrant needed) they found the most recent emails from IGE and somewhere along the area of 10,000 gold on the corpse. Needless to say, the police were stunned to find that although he had died, somehow his character was still logged onto World of Warcraft earning gold. Police then rolled on who would get the lewt.

The whole "there are only two options" statement doesn't sound like she was blaming video games for his death. It sounds like she is saying why he spent his whole holiday playing games. She says all the markets and places to go are closed during the holiday, so people only have 2 options to spend their time on: TV or computer.

I think her statement has been misunderstood. I mean, it doesn't make sense any other way. If she intended to say that's why the guy died, then she would be implying that markets kill people, but since the market was closed, it didn't. See how little sense that makes?

Surprisingly, the holiday season in Mainland China actually lasts for fifteen days with the last day being the Lantern Festival.

For what it's worth, the country really does shut down for much of that period, so saying he only had two things to do isn't too much of a stretch.

I am going to play a little bit of the "bitch" here and say: Games may not have been the only factor causing his death, but its possible it was one of the big ones. This may be own personally experience, but I have seen many a WoW player spend 24+ hrs in one sitting when need be. Or back in the day, I used to attend 24hr CS tourneys and most people stayed through the whole thing.

Ask anyone who has any sort of medical background, its definitely unhealthy to spend that long with very little movement, or even just staying awake that long can do damage. Now, sure it can be argued that games didn't "cause" him to do it technically, he has a choice, but still is a factor that can be addicting for some (don't deny it, MANY people are addicted to games, I am for godsake... Hell, I am addicted to kotaku... lol)

I imagine if you play a lot and dont sleep you would probably get somehow crazy and your brain would stop working somehow, but not till the point of instant death... how could you die while playing a computer game?
