Great points, I completely agree on all of those. But, the bluetooth on the PS3 sometimes freezes.. Not a big deal, and it doesn't happen often, but it is something Sony needs to fix. I love that I can use my bluetooth headset for my phone with the PS3. Moto FTW!

I'm not a fanboy either way, I'm really not. I just get tired of the uninformed potshots at a system that I'm really, honestly enjoying. The truth is, My 360 died. I have 1 friend who is on his 3rd, and another who is on his 5th, but that gets swept aside by the people that either believe that MS actually cares about them, or the people that hate Sony SO much, that they'll let MS and Nintendo slide on pretty-much anything.

I own plenty of games for my 360, and yeah, only Wii Sports for my Wii. I honestly like the way that Sony set things up on the PS3, from the Interface to the fact that the online play is FREE. Yes, XBOX Live is slicker in many ways, but I still don't think that it's worth $60 a year.

PS3 Pro's
-It's MUCH easier to rip music to the PS3, and then copy it off to a USB drive
-Downloadable game prices are much better for the content that you get.
-Motorstorm
-MK II, my favorite of the entire series, and it has online play
-Backward Compatibility. As soon as a GOOD PS2-PS3 adapter comes out, I can put my PS2 away. I don't have to download a wrapper for every game that I want to play.
-MGS4. My guess is that it will NOT come to the 360 (announcement???)
-Bluetooth. I'm not limited to what MS wants to release or license. Voice sounds much cleaner when people use their Bluetooth headsets with dedicated DSP's
-Online is FREE, and is quite good
-It's MUCH quieter than the 360
-DVD playback is very good, and the color is much more true than on the 360
-Blu-Ray playback is excellent, and is much more accurate than HD-DVD playback on the 360 (the color is horrible on the 360 for movie playback)
-7.1 Sound via HDMI. 2 games already support it.
-The motion control is better than you think. flOw showed me that.
-The photo functionality is great. I never thought that I'd use it, but I did on Chrsitmas when I had my PS3 setup at my Parents'.
-It supports more video formats and just feels more "open" then the 360 does.

Cons:
-Online interface and features aren't as good as the 360, YET
-The Store has already evolved, but it needs work
-They need more exclusive content
-They need demos released at the same time that they are on the 360 for cross-platform titles
-Real background downloads
-Developers of cross-platform titles still aren't using the PS3's power, so some ports aren't as good
-No network support for streaming media from a PC yet.
-The damned scaling issue. I have a CRT HDTV (1080i only), and I can't hook the PS3 up to it until that's fixed.

In my opinion this sounds like it might actually be good news… I mean, an unbiased person actually stated that the news was great.

Optimistic prediction: The chipset in every PS3 was coated with pure gold, about $599 worth. And, here are some previously un-announced games that Sony and Sqeenix have decided to release today. Eat up kiddies!

A better chance of : Game dev kits have become more advanced over the past three months, making it easier and more affordable for developers to produce software. This in mind, there will be more exclusive games…. I really have no clue.

Source of the hype aside, most people are just voicing skepticism or making jokes over Sony's perceived inability to deliver. At this point, is that really something to get upset about?

To be honest, the fact that it's not Sony themselves doing the hyping here actually makes it much more intriguing to me, since Sony has made it abundantly clear how willing they are to make empty promises.

If there was anything I was semi-impressed by Sony's horrible E3 presser, it was the potential of that then stupid, Augmented Reality card game. Maybe more games or developers are taking advantage of that in new ways?

(what I believe to be) More realistic speculation: "The PS3 launches worldwide this month and in the US we will be releasing new firmware that disables the onboard PS2 chips in favor of software emulation, oh and did we mention that Motorstorm has been released?"

I hope he has a nice suprise in for us, but honestly at this point I don't need any big suprises. Just some decent games.

first age: 2D games
second age: 3D games
third age: HD games

But if you're right and he does end up speaking as if PS1 was the first generation of games, he deserves utter contempt.

As a videogames fan first and a 360 fan second, I'd like to see the 360 come out a bit ahead of the PS3 this generation. I don't want Sony to have to duck out of the console hardware game, but I want there to be very strong competition between Microsoft and Sony. I don't want them to tie because it seems like Sony would have to come in second or third place in order for any kind of reality check to happen.

Now, everyone knows Sony's been getting tons of negative press for some time now. Here's my dilemma: how much is too much? At this point, I don't know whether I should hope that this is going to being actual good news or empty hype. Too much bad press, too many disappointments, and the 360 won't have enough competition from the PS3 to make Microsoft really strive for excellence.

But, on the other hand, given the strength of the Sony brand it almost seems like Sony could have made the PS3 punch you in the crotch every time you turn it on and still come in at least second place this generation. I can even imagine how ardent fans would defend the 'feature:' "just leave the console on all the time!"

Now, I'm not trying to pick on Sony fans in particular there. There are plenty of people who abandon reason while defending the Wii or 360.

With all that said, I am genuinely curious about this upcoming announcement. Mixed feelings and all.

As far as the actual news which so many people seem to be sidestepping in favor of patting themselves on the back with regurgitated jokes, I won't hold my breath. I hope Sony blows us away, but the only way I'll buy a PS3 now is if Polyphony is able to give force feedback support for racing wheels (aka the $300 G25). Confirm that, and I'll order a PS3 the next day.

The worst way to do it is to say we will make a big announcement which will make everyone very very happy. No no no no no no !!!!! Now everyone's version of happiness is different and we all start imagining that the PS3 will now start to dispense vodka and attract loose women. If they did it right, and included those things, I'd image that they could compete rather well with Apple TV. That is, considering the cost + hardware of the PS3, it'd be a great, GREAT value-added software app for the system (without having to use Linux, which can already do this now that there is an SPE optimized ffmpeg library).
