I'm going to call fake on this too. I don't think the wiimote is even heavy enough to possibly go right through a window like that. That's would have to have been thrown hard. Very, very hard. Something just sounds fishy.

reecord2

I don't get how hard it is to hold onto a controller. Seriously, if it's flying out of your hands, you're obviously doing something wrong. You don't have to put so much force into swinging. My friend and I both bought Wiis on launch day and either of us have yet to lose the controller or break the strap.

FairladyZ4U2NV

I used to run a lot of LARPS. And when you get that adrenaline rush while doing a physical action, and you totally forget all decorum.

You don't see that a lot with normal videogames, because the actions are so restrained.

But in LARPS, even with all the warnings about hitting people hard with the foam weapons, even people who are well aware of the issues involved, suddenly will forget how hard and wildly they are hitting people. Or running. Even after years of telling people to calm down, I've caught myself running down a hallway, nearly bowling people over.

I know better, of course, heat of the moment.

And Wii Sports in particular brings out that kind of behavior. Even in bowling, the bowler in our group *HAD* to step forward and snap his hand and wrist forward with terrifying speed. Because you need that speed and force to bowl.

And the motions and simulation on Wii Bowling is quite close to the real thing.

Also....I cannot find heavier cell phone straps anywhere. I've checked manufacturers, and they all seem to make that thin cotton string connection system. Lanyards are another story, but are too long for Wii use.

Nintendo is going to likely have to custom manufacture the strap. And they have to, or lawsuits are not too far away.

Brian, this is getting ridiculous. Did you even read through the kid's forum posts? Why are you perpetuating this falsehood? If someone were to read your posts, but not do their own research, they would think that the Wii-straps do not work, or that the Wii constituted a danger. This is false, and you have lost professional integrity in my eyes. Is this all because your unsupervised kid abused a remote?

I can live with liking different games, or systems, or companies than you. But when you promote falsehoods and lies, you might as well work for Sony's or Microsoft's PR.

I wail on my wiimote and I don't even use the strap. twice now I almost lost the controller [I have very sweaty hands.] but when I fell it start to get air... I just squeeze and the contro0ller stays... I don't use the strap for tennis because I like to throw the controller in the air to serve... I just looks cool. Call me and idiot, but I still have my straps and my wiimotes are still impact free. On the other hand, it's a double standard because I make my friends hold on for dear life straps and all.

Not sure I completely follow you there Koldo.

For people who just want to flick their wrists, I can suggest one step further that will make gaming much easier on your poor wrists: Xbox 360 or PS3. You'll only have to push a button with these systems possibly saving your wrists from long-term damage.

Doing the full range of motion in Wii Sports is definitely more satisfying and engrossing, but there's a reason they put the wrist strap warning on the game launch screen. If anything reports like this serve as a reminder to always tighten that wrist strap!

At least it's glass that seems to be getting the brunt of the Wiimote's fury. I'm glad no people have been injured thus far, because I really care about people and because once that starts happening you can be sure people will be suing Nintendo and then they'll add a few more pages of warnings that you have to sit through before you play your games. I agree that wrist flicking is retarded, try playing Wii Golf when 2 of your friends are golfing, and one is sitting on the couch like a moron wrist-flicking. It's fun getting into the game.

That being said I think there's a large difference between playing with a Tennis-like motion...and playing like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkdihGX7iWM

You DON'T have to swing it like your life depended on the power output of your next swing. God forbid that guy ever get his hands on some sort of tangible piece of sporting equipment...

To recap:
Retarded = Simple wrist flicking, or putting every last once of your soul into a swing
Awesome = playing Wii like it was meant to be played.

Klaymen

Waitwaitwait.... What exactly is being retarded with playing a tennis game using tennis-like movement? Isn't this like the entire point of the Wii? So suddenly someone accidentally flings the controller across the room - this is related to IQ how?

Retarded = thinking that wrist-flicking is some kind of new revolutionary natural control system. Without the wild flailing of arms the Wii has nothing.

I will buy a Wii someday. And, by God, I hope I will break shit doing it. I MUST, otherwise, what's the point?
The only thing more irritating than the gaming press covering the clumsiness of overexcited users, is hearing the Nintendo fanboys shriek in dismay that anyone would ever use their Wii in an exaggerated and thrashing manner.

It's going to keep happening, because people get excited while they're playing, which causes them to use more and more power on throws and swings. They aren't retarded and Nintendo didn't make a faulty console. It's just the nature of immersive gameplay mixed with gesture based controllers.

I mean come on I'm playing wii all the time now and all i need are minimal movements to do any thing.
AS for that has any one noticed that no matter what is broken and such the wii remote still works in most instance in all these stories?

Prety damn amazing the abuse these people are puting it through and yet it still works now thats quality of nintendo I've come to expect.

WilliamRLBaker

I can't believe how stupid these people are, but just from a comfort standpoint I wipe my hands between plays or points or whatever. I am guessing all these mouthbreathers are playing baseball on Wii Sports. In case one of them reads this, its not about arm motion, its about the quickness of your wrists and elbow. If you can figure that out, you can save yourself some collateral damage.

But to be safe I am buying some high tension fishing line today and making sure my strap is reinforced.

harkonnen
