Umm..

Reminds me of my best friend when I was like nine, who only played videogames cause I loved them (gee she was a dear), playing Mario and making the controller jump in the air as she pressed the jump button. She'll love the Wii. But she's getting married around the same time. OOH! BRAINFLASH. WII WEDDING PRESENT. IT'S WHITE.

I should know, I used to do that when I was little. It still pains me to this day to watch video of me as a kid, acting for the camera when I knew I was just doing it to be goofy.

I dunno, for racing games it seems pretty gimmicky because steering wheels have been around for ages and doing it better. But for other games like Lair and the games Wii has going, the motion sensing will definitely add a lot to games, I think. It just needs to be used wisely.

Pretty good idea getting a kid that doesn't have using sticks completely ingrained into them.

I also think that Tristan may be overcompensating with exaggerated moves because it's instinct, especially when the controls aren't 1:1. When I play any of the Burnout games for XBOX or PS2, I can be seen leaning my entire body into turns and/or physically turning the entire controller AS IF that will help my thumbsticks even more. This is generally not the case.

There's going to be many a black eye while playing split screen with these things! Not to mention repetitive strain / sprains / short gaming sessions enduced by lethargy (the same issues as i have with the wii really).

Good to see the little one picking it up so quickley thoguh i guess, although i dont see this as a viable marketing route for a £500 console.

Looks like it'd be akward on those moments when he nearly crosses his arms over for some sharp turns. I mean, my moobs might get in the way and all y'know... Too bad there's not some controller where you can just use one hand for motion sensing.

Microsoft should grab the clip where your son says, "I like the 360s" with the PS3 controller in hand and use it for a commercial. Just have that and a screen with "PWNED!" pop up at the end and you've got a commercial infinitely better than those crying babies.

Reminds me of playing the SNES when I was little... but when you moved the controller all over the place it didn't really do anything back then; nonetheless, I'd still fling the sucker in the air whenever Mario jumped.

Both he and Eliza were hired away by Wired.com, which is a wonderful step forward for both of them. Eliza is going to be doing stuff on GameLife I believe.

It is a Unicorn. I won it at a rennfen a year or so back by getting a few bulls eyes with one of those wonky bows they have there.

He looked like he was pretty into it- hence the no response. I figure it will be akward at first, the motion control-instead-of-thumbstick. But after a couple of hours it might become second nature again. Developers will probably include the option of just using the thumbsticks anyway, so I wonder how many will prefer the feel of the motion sensing.

I think the reason he said he likes the thumbsticks better, is of course he's played with it more often. But he looks like he's enjoying himself. (as evidenced by him not talking to you...) Man, your kid looked awkward. Would make a good PS3 advertisement, though. Definitely better than the ones they've been putting out, as it actually looks fun there.

Also, not to derail the topic or anything, but in case any of you were bemoaning Florian's loss as I am, he's resurfaced on Wired's "Table of Malcontents" blog under the clever pseudonym "John Brownlee," dispensing his own brand of pompous, overwrought wisdom with the usual genius and subtlety. I wouldn't mention it, except that it was difficult at first to determine where he and his previously mentioned "Art & Culture" blog actually were. Eliza is around there someplace, too; I think she'll be writing for Game Life at some point.
