Geez Ashcraft, get a grip. Desperate for a scoop?

1. There is no way a 60GB hard disk on a 360 could have 59.5GB free - the dashboard software and so on takes up a few GB. So it actually must be a larger disk, 80GB or something.

2. As others have said, demo kits look just like retail machines but have development software and a bigger hard disk. Its obviously a demo kit with a larger development hard disk on it that the marketing drones just rolled out for the demo.

grumbler

There are two possibilities here...it's either a Development Kit or a Demo Kit. Demo kits look exactly like a retail 360, but operate like a devkit, including the bigger hard drive. Devkits are the big gray 360s with a 'sidecar' on top that has a USB port for some sort of drive emulation, among other things. I also think it is possible to use the bigger hard drive on a retail kit if swapped.

Rob Phelps

"you do realise that a 60 gigabyte hard drive does not actually contain 60 gigabytes of space. Theres no way that this can be a 60gig with 59.5g free."

Um, some HDD manufacturers actually make the drives hold a bit more space so the actual size is closer to the advertised size. Rare nowadays however.

I posted this like two or three times on 1up and no one seemed to really care. On the Gamewatch page (the Japanese site that most people were linking to yesterday) there were some screen shots of the upcoming dashboard update. That wasn't what i found noteworthy. One of the screen shots was a table full of all the new accessories for the 360.

On that table they had the wireless wheel, vision camera, wireless headset, hd-dvd....and a hard drive package?

Why would you have a hard drive sitting on a table of completely new peripherals? The hard drive has been around since launch. Tell me that MS is not considering and even close to releasing a new drive.

It certainly wouldn't hurt if people are ripping AUDIO CDs to the HDD (WMC is a wonderful thing, but not everybody in the world has a PC).. I mean, a few really good albums out of your collection and you start burning on space..

Not really an issue if you have the PC or the pocket player (zune anyone?), but they wouldn't have released a CORE PACK if they weren't about talking to the lowest uncommon denominator.

Realistically, I'd like to see the 200GB option, even a 100GB for the virtue of "never having to worry about it", hopefully with the fall update (haven't checked it, stupid work) deleting things will be less of an arduous process (clicking 4 times to erase a gamerpic, for example).. but having all that space lulls the operator into being lax about keeping the garbage off his drive.. which is something I've been constantly on (why must EA package so many stupid EA gamerpics with each package? Christ. Like I need to see a freakin' EA logo between every other gamerpic.)

Anyways, yeah, it can't hurt to have more space, but I'm fearing the price to GB ratio, because at 20GB for 129.99, extrapolating that price even x3 is 389.97, and that's to a 80GB model. [obviously, they wouldn't use this pricing strategy, but for commenting sakes] .. Something will have to give, and the people who shelled out 130 for the 20GB only to have the 60 or 100GB go for 200 bucks would not be please (People tend to get a serious hate on MS when stuff goes bad)

and who knows.. I still haven't seen the results of replacing the stock HDD with a laptop SATA drive (and then doing the format keystroke trick)..

Can anyone comment on that? And if XBL would BAN HDD "hackers" like they're banning "backup operators" ;-)

phew, longest, drawn out comment yet. Good job, looking over my shoulder at work ;) sorry if a few lines don't make complete sense.

A quick google search shows that 360 dev kits do, in fact, have 60GB hard drives - this would also make sense considering that a huge chunk of a retail 360 HD is reserved for backwards compatibility, and that drive actually shows close to 60GB available.

you have to remember that MS doesn't want you to download music and movies to your 360, they want you to stream them from your pc, and since everyone pretty much has a pc, and this last update finally adds wmv support you have everything you need to make your 360 a "video jukebox"

tpudd

It would be really great having a 60 or 80gb on the 360. 20gb doesn't hold for too long and later we'll probably seed the live arcade games having more than 50MB, with SOTN probably being the first one of them.

Lider

Some of us hope MS will get off the stick and finally tie the XBL Marketplace to their combined effort with MTV, Urge. The 360 would make an excellent video jukebox, but only if it has the storage space. I expect bigger hard drives in the future, because before this generation is over, we'll be downloading bigger games, TV shows, music videos, and movies onto our 360's.

mfelps

It does matter actually. My 20GB Xbox360 HD has about 5 Gigs left, simply from multiple game patches, a couple movie trailers, some marketplace add-ons, and 3-4 game demos. I've had the console for about six months, so down the line in a few years the 20GB will be a joke. What's even more of a joke is the fact that the 20GB HD drive is $99, when a 320GB drive can be found online for just a few dollars more. What will the $60 GB cost?

dMek

Speaking of the update - this remote wmv viewing rocks. I've always considered buying a 'media computer' to hook up to the bigscreen and stream junk off my main computer, but my pocketbook's only so big. Finally, today I can do that.

I've got some nice DOA match vids I downloaded going to the 360 from my comp - very sweet. Now I just need to figure out how convert from xvid to wmv and I'm set for life.

Oh, and to be slighty on topic, the bigger HD is cool too if it's real.

Daxed
