One of their main edges is on price; It costs money to run more SKU's than it does to have the X360 SKU's they have now, with a bunch of add-ons. That's why the harddrive add-on is clumsy but works. They would have to treat an HDDVDinternalXbox360 edition as a totally separate product even though it's still a 360. Just seems like something too complex especially in the new era of trying to widen your audience- Why confuse consumers even more, or give Sony ammo to match prices? And as others have said- they apparently keep denying there will be an internal version.

Maybe as more a movie player than anything else.

An enhanced xbox 360 with an internal HDDVD drive to play movies isn't out of the question as long as it costs more then the premium version.

That way MS can avoid pissing off early adopters by just saying they saved them money... Or so would they say.

Maybe as more a Movie player than anything else. They won't release games on HDDVD for sure, so a special edition Xbox 360 with a higher price tag isn't out of the question.

With a higher price tag early adopters can't be angry because suposedly MS saved them a lot of money... or so would they say if they pulled such a stunt.

I still think this is unlikely. They've confirmed definitely that next-gen is to be DVD based for games. So you're going to shell out a ton of money for a 360 that can play HD-DVD movies? When I play DVDs they usually go in my VHS/DVD hybrid.

And I'm not sure about HD-DVD read/load times, but I know Blu-Ray is slow as hell, which is why Sony has declared their games will be on DVD too. It's not a "pick up and play" system if the initial load is 5 minutes long.

I doubt Microsoft would piss off early adopters if they want to maintain a lead. Especially with all the bad PS3 news lately they're trying to really play the angles, not bend them into 90 degrees.

More than likely, a modder will end up putting the HD-DVD drive inside the 360 him/herself as a replacement for the DVD drive.

As for an "official" internal model? I don't think so.

Does anyone remember the Segia CDX? I bet very few do, but it's the Genesis that had the SegaCD built in. It didn't do very well (although its cost was significant).

I wac coming in here to say what KaneRobot just did. I doubt even if MS was going to make a internal one, they wouldn't announce it until a couple days before it comes out, just to make sure people didn't stop buying normal 360s and wait for the "better" vesion to come out.
Can't say I really blame 'em either.

Well, every company can update a product and make it better, but if they release HDDVD games, it would be the last time I get a XBox brand product.

It´s the same with the PSP... I don´t care if they release a HDD model or a battery camel, even a smaller one... but if they stop using the UMD format for games (they can also release memory stick games and it´s ok), I would be a very angry customer.

And no... the Wii is not an updated Gamecube with a new controler, and even if it is... not a big whoop ;-).

This is fine if they NEVER release a game on HD DVD. If Microsoft does start making games on that format though, they are just shooting themselves in the foot. It would only splinter the market further and create alot of animosity from their early adopters. Of course, if they release it with Halo 3 then...

Thats cool, however I kinda like the idea of having both a movie and a game in the 360 simultaneously. That way i dont have to keep swapping out my fav game to watch whatever movie i rent. I will stick with the external.

As long as the cost difference is exactly the same as the cost for the external drive and no games are released on HD-DVD, I think this is a really great idea.

Otherwise, yeah, this would screw over us early adopters.
