XBStream Apologizes For Killing All Those Podcasts

Well, the XB Stream borked its launch pretty good, going instantly from a product that Major Nelson plugged on his blog to a blog widely reviled by the gaming community and podcasters for its uncanny knack at filling up a 360's hard drive with 20 gigs worth of useless mp3s and knocking out podcast servers.

Well, good news. The XB Stream guys have released version 1.1 and it fixes that "Download every single podcast ever" bug it had. Better yet, the programmer's really, really sorry.

Changed Audio Downloads. Changed the way audio podcasts/blogcasts are downloaded, only the most recent podcast/blogcast will be downloaded (1 audio file only!). The program was downloading all back catalog of podcasts/blogcasts causing several independent websites to crash. GamerAndy (http://www.gamerandy.com), XBL Radio (http://www.xblradio.com) in particular were affected and a big apology goes out to them!

It's good of them to apologize publicly like that, but I think everyone can be excused for approaching XB Stream with extreme caution from now on. If the previous behavior was a bug, it's amazing that could have gotten through any remedial attempts at testing; if it was a feature, it was so stupid and incompetent of one, I wouldn't feel comfortable trusting that a similar system-paralyzing feature wouldn't make its way into a future version.
