Over 200 of America's best video gamers will be invited to the Los Angeles Convention Center this weekend to battle it out at the World Cyber Games USA 2008 National Final. There will be many prizes, including cold hard cash, but twenty-five lucky gold and silver finalists will earn roster spots on gaming's own Team USA, and have the opportunity to compete with the world's best at the World Cyber Games 2008 Grand Final in Cologne, Germany. Little known fact, I actually held, at one point, the second highest score in the world at the game Air Zonk for the TurboGrafx 16. If you don't believe me, check out issue #45 of EGM (if you still have it) and flip to the back where they use to do those score contests. Anyway, full release with details after the jump! More »

The World Cyber Games National Final is over, and as the smoke clears and paramedics carry the battered bodies of the fallen from the fetid field of war, twenty-two figures stand silhouetted in the bright Universal Orlando Resort spotlights, ready to represent our country in the coming battle. Men like Need for Speed: Carbon Champion Kamram Siddiqui from Orlando Florida, and Dead or Alive 4 Champ Carl White from Toledo Ohio. Those two and twenty more bravely listed in the press release below will take to the battlefield on last time at the World Cyber Games 2007 Grand Final in Seattle Washington October 4th through the 7th, testing their mettle against 700 gamers from 75 countries for a chance at gold medals, cash, and prizes...but that matters not. Nay, these fine men and possibly women fight for America, ladies and gentlemen. For our freedom and glory. Okay, my hyperbole gland just burst. Hit up the press release while I hunt for a band-aid. More »

With the sunglasses and leather jacket, you could get the idea that DoA and Ninja Gaiden creator Tomonobu Itagaki comes is cold and distant. Like he's just sneering at us, releasing bastard hard games and waiting for his next whiskey straight. But wait! Here he is. And he's actually touching another human in a friendly way. It's like the game creator is human. Or something. There's good reason why he's so pleased! That dude Itagaki has his arm around is a regular Dead or Alive finalist in the WorldCyberGames. The WCG 2007 finals aren't until October, but prelims were held in Tokyo with Dead or Alive 4. Is that curled lip a slight smile on Itagaki's face? Impossible! More »
