It's a tale as old as time: Beloved TV personality books hot band to appear on his show. Sister network ganks booking, claiming a prior exclusive agreement. Beloved TV personality goes on the air and makes a bunch of excellent jokes at sister network's expense.
Okay, it's not THAT common a story. But that's what happened last night, as Stephen Colbert lost his Daft Punk booking to Viacom sister-network MTV and proceeded to throw six minutes of outstanding jabs at MTV head Van Toffler. The fact that both Colbert's network Comedy Central and MTV are owned by Viacom just makes the one-sided infighting all the more enjoyable.
Not one to disappoint music-seeking fans, Colbert came back with his own performance, featuring some surprise guests:
