Yesterday Bash gave us the first still shot from Japan's upcoming Phoenix Wright flick. Today, thanks to the sharp eyes of Kotaku tipster KingKellogg the Waffle Haggler, we see the first live action. There's a lot of Japanese in this, and that goes for the cross-talk as well as the dialogue. One word, however, seems very familiar. More »

The Associated Press is reporting injuries to 16 actors on the Toronto set of Resident Evil: Retribution after a platform collapsed. Paramedics found it difficult to assess the actors' injuries because of the zombie costumes and make-up they were wearing. The victims suffered leg, arm and back injuries but none were said to be life-threatening. More »

I will be picking up the Resident Evil: Degeneration Blu-ray this winter due to the fact that I am a CGI-movie whore to the point where I'd buy a scene-for-scene CG remake of Ishtar, but some of you out there need more motivation than that. Prince Of Persia Filming In Morocco

According to Morocco's Dune Films, Mike Newell's Prince of Persia film based on the popular video game series most recently in the hands of Ubisoft will be shooting in location in the Kingdom of Morocco, that sunny African country on the Northern Atlantic coast. Morocco is most famous for its largest city, Casablanca, the setting for a film of the same name that is doubtlessly 2,000 times better than this one could ever hope to be. Casting and location scouting is set to begin on March 17th. So location is set, but still no cast. Anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking Santiago Cabrera (Isaac from Heroes) for the titular role, continuing Hollywood's long-standing tradition of hiring anyone but someone of the character's actual nationality. If Sean Connery can be Spanish, a Venezuelan can be Persian. More »

300 The First Successful Video Game-Styled Movie

While the blockbuster hit film 300 was based off of a graphic novel that was in turn based of a historically-themed graphic novel by comics legend Frank Miller, Sony Pictures Digital's Yair Landau attributes it success to video games, or rather the video game generation. In an interview with Gamasutra, Landau, who oversees SOE as well as Sony Pictures Animation, explores convergence between movies and video games, using 300 as an example.

"I actually think that the phenomenon of 300 is really, in fact, a manifestation of the video game experience in kind of the collective conscience. The audience who came to see 300 was weaned on video games and what they saw in the marketing materials for 300 was a similar experience. They didn't show up because they were interested in the Spartans, or because they read Herodotus, or because they thought the Battle of Thermopylae was a great, untold story.
