This May Be the Kookiest Game to Reach Its Kickstarter Goal YetS

Octopus City Blues is the kind of game in which an enormous, bloody millipede is used for public transportation and the protagonist is married to a pink octopus named Daisy. And it just reached its Kickstarter funding goal of $7,000.

The developers at Ghost in a Bottle describe it as "a surreal adventure game about everything and nothing" and "the authentic Octopus City simulation," whatever that means. Here's a story summary:

Assume the role of Kaf Kafkaryan, a cowardly middle-aged octopus blood junkie and tentacle trimmer, living in a city built around a giant octopus. Kaf has been experiencing bizarre dreams about a world populated by twisted creatures. To help the inhabitants of his dreams, he must learn more about the people of the city and explore the underside of the towering metropolis. Along the way he becomes entangled in a conspiracy with far-reaching implications for Octopus City.

With its pixel art and retro-style music I can see why the internet is throwing money at Octopus City Blues, but there's something legitimately intriguing about it too. The Kickstarter page has a more comprehensive pitch, and with 24 days remaining I expect that the funding will continue to increase. In the meantime watch the trailer below and spend some time thinking about your life.

By the way, anyone else getting a bit of a Lovecraft vibe from the whole thing?
