Bloomberg is reporting, via a report from Famitsu publisher Enterbrain, that the Wii is now outselling the PLAYSTATION 3 by a factor of five-to-one in Japan. That five-to-one sales ratio for the month of May bests the previous month when the Wii was outselling the PS3 by a four-to-one margin.
This is mostly old news to anyone following weekly Media Create hardware sales, as the Wii had one of its better weeks last month when it sold 101,320 units in a seven day period. That same week, Sony's new-generation console sold only 12,974 units. While that was an unusually high sales spike for Nintendo, it's illustrative of the massive gap between the two.
According to Bloomberg, Nintendo expects that chasm to widen, as it forecast Wii sales to triple this fiscal year. Impressive. Is there anything that can temper the Nintendo fever in Japan?
