Mario. Mavis Beacon. The Dead. Over the years many video game characters and Mavis Beacons have attempted to impart the art of keyboard-diddling, but none have come as close to perfection as Icarus Proudbottom. Before you read on, it's time for character creation.

Icarus Proudbottom Teaches Typing is a free-to-play PC game hand-crafted by Holy Wow Studios in 30 days, as part of the Something Awful GameDev Challenge VIII. I am pretty sure they cheated - nothing this good can be made in 30 days. What's next, seven-day planets? Right.

Just look at that interface. That's more than 30 days' worth of interface.

The premise is simple. You are an amateur typist, and Icarus Proudbottom and his trusty Native American spirit animal are going to teach you. Or maybe they'll just make you type out sexy passages. And then apologize for them.

Is there a hidden agenda here?

If there is, it's hidden well, and even if you can see it, don't point it out — it's rude.

Look, just type out the sentences Icarus and friends ask you to. Sometimes they'll ask you to double up on letters. They have their reasons, and they might result in your greatness. Don't be an unspecified body part about it.

See? I've learned so much more than typing.

In all seriousness, Icarus Proudbottom Teaches Typing is the most fun I've had typing since adult AOL chat rooms in the late 90s. It's incredibly clever, mildly subversive, and damn near perfect. All it needs now is controller support.
