The problem with politicians is they all too rarely care: they merely jump upon issues for easy political points. Keep that in mind when you read what California Assembly Speaker and supercilious wanker Leland Yee has to say about the Oblivion re-rating. Like us, he thinks it's ridiculous, proof positive of a hypocritical organization (the ESRB) that too easily switches its stance when the smallest degree of pressure is exercised upon it. But unlike us, Yee thinks the ESRB is captiulating to game developers as opposed to haughty political prudes, at the expense of the moral fiber of our country's youths:
[The ESRB] has shown that they cannot police themselves... Plain and simply, the current rating system is drastically flawed and here is yet another reason why we need legislation to assist parents and protect children."
Yes, from the moral oblivion of seeing the polygonal representation of a female breast. Yee continues:
Unlike the movie industry's rating board which reviews the entire content of a film, the ESRB rates games based on very limited viewing of the game and rely almost entirely on information provided to them by the game manufacturer.
An argument that would perhaps be more compelling if Bethesda hadn't fully disclosed the objectionable content that was actually present in the game. What a jerk off.
