Whereas TEAM is the key here, it doesn't stop morons from thinking they got this game in the bag. Prepare to completely RAGE at this game numerous times. #mag
Played the beta. Wasn't bad, but wasn't great. There is one thing that would make it a must buy for me. But first...
When they announced vehicles, I wasn't interested. I've got Battlefield for that.
When they showed breaking the teams up into small squads for "squad vs. squad" battles, I wasn't interested. I've got Call of Duty if I want to take on just a handful of enemies at a time.
When they announced 256 player battles, that's when I got interested. I don't have anywhere else to turn for huge battles.
The only reason I'm interested in this game is the number of players per match. But more specifically, the number of players per gunfight. I can get 16 vs. 16 player gunfights from a bevy of other sources. What I can't get is a 126 vs. 126 player gunfight.
That's what a I want. I want the chaos of 126 vs. 126 player team deathmatch. Offer the chaos. I want the chaos!
"But still, with so many people in a game at once, being antisocial seems like a waste of good game design."
SOCOM was played on a much smaller scale and being anti-social would kick your ass in that game too. I think it has more to do with the game's design than it has to do with the scale at which you play it on.
Communication is key, and while you can play the lone wolf (like you could in SOCOM) it's usually met with poor results. #mag
It has been one of the toughest betas to get into for me. Not into as in get invited. I was invited early. It has just been hard to find time to play during the limited scheduled playtimes. Maybe they will open it up to play anytime soon.
@jgibson75: Yeah i've only been able to play about 6 days so far for about 3 hours each. They really need to open it up on a Sat or Sun at least once a month.
I'm from Canada and got in the beta on day one. mind you, it took a couple weeks before i was finally able to stay connected to their server long enough to get the updates and eventually play. it's an alright game. I think MW2 will be better recieved.
For 2 beta periods now I have been trying to download the beta, but PSN service is so fucking horrid at staying logged in that I have yet to get it. Its such a waste of a beta code I got from TGS from a friend.
I actually got the update that was over 2 gigs, only to find the servers were down for the tgs test, then when the private beta started, asked me to REDL the 2+gigs because they changed something and after about 10 failures over 10 days, gave up.
@Scazza: sounds like you just have a bad connection, or your firewall gets in the way. something on your end. i've been in the beta for a while, and downloaded the updates. and its been very smooth.
@Shaban12si: @direxnipe: I have Nat2, I can access the PSN store via PSP and via PC for PSP downloads, and on them, its 500k/s+ consistantly. On PS3 there is a major DL problem. Even plugged directly into the modem, no dice. Also have a 10meg connection, and viewing the playstation forums, theres a post there with over 1000 posts of people with the same type of problem, not on my end.
Playing games is fine, i get a great connection and downloading things in HOME seem instant. My guess is some of their servers are the problem.
im gonna wait for a bunch of reviews. right now im happy playing killzone 2, while i wait for MW2. im not sold on MAG. perhaps if open beta occurs and i get in, it MAY change my mind.
@maximegalon01: Broadly speaking, it isn't. The difference is that the squad system means that you have co-operation between squad members to achieve local objectives, then between multiple squads to achieve larger-scale objectives, and then squads make up even larger platoons, which have even larger objectives.
Which means that you have to consider your actions as part of a whole army, rather than just a small, localised group. There are exp bonuses for completing objectives assigned from higher up the chain of command, which encourages team participation and effective leadership, even amongst relatively novice players.
So the idea is as if you're an individual soldier fighting in the kind of battle you get in an RTS. Because there is a distinct hierarchical system, you might have to make sacrifices for the overall good, or labour to achieve something that's only going to reap dividends on a part of the map you might never get to see. But because it's all for the team, there's still a sense of satisfaction there, you know?

Seriously, those types of menial tasks like opening gates and stuff is the role of infantry, not elite tank pilots. #mag

Guys, he was referring to having to preorder the game as being a "pay-to-play program". Put $5 down on the game, play the beta.
