I bought this game on release day (PAL "Limited Edition Pack" with two free card boxes, lol!) and wholeheartedly agree with the review. By no means a terrible game but its a real missed opportunity. )-:
@TheWP: Depends on your surface of choice, really. I had originally played on a flimsy EA Sports Active box and had problems with the remote sliding. I think switched to a Dreamcast Keyboard(!) box, which worked just fine. But, in general, I'd recommend you put a jacket on.
i hope you at least paid your respects for Sonic at the funeral service. the least you could do after letting him go into streets and become a fine mess.
@Brian Ashcraft: It seems done before. And since Sonic nowadays are ripping off old story-models (warewolves, the black knight) just doing Star Wars doesn't seem that off.
@CockroachMan: Actually, Sonic 3 & Knuckles WAS a Star Wars ripoff. Remember the Death Egg? And what about the space station with the power to destroy a planet by colliding several small beams and making a huge one in Sonic Adventure 2?
Telling the internet to ask you Sonic questions is like saying to Jeffrey Dahmer: "Why yes, this house is indeed rather secluded, now that you mention it. I just soundproofed the place, too! Now if you'll excuse me, my skin's a little dry, and I found this fabulous all-natural lotion that's actually as edible as it is moisturizing! Delicious!"
1. Able and efficient; having the ability needed for a specific task; having the disposition to do something; permitting or being susceptible to something.
She is capable and efficient.
He does not need help; he is capable of eating on his own.
As everyone knew, he was capable of violence when roused.
I miss my Sonic 2. I really do wish they'd just scrap everything after Sonic 3/Sonic And Knuckles (they were meant to be one game), or at a stretch everything after Adventure, and then start a new.
Piracy didn't do nothing to the DC, back then almost nobody had a CDR drive, plus ripping a DC was quite a feat, nothing compared to PSP and Wii today: even a toddler can hack those two.
People seem to forget the hype behind the PS2 back then. it was 10 times the one of the Wii, sony could say any crazy shit and buyers everywhere would believe them ("It's like the matrix and toy story combined, in real time!" they actually said that, no joke...)
Not having a DVD was a major flaw, both in hardware (big games like shenmue) and with buyers. I saw the numbers, it would have costed an extra $50 to make the DC with a DVD, for a total of $250. Scraps when you think that the cheapest DVD player back in 1999 was $600 or more.
The .com bust of 2000 also hurt it, since for most the days of the internet were over and a console that could access were old news.
Then theres MS: is obvious by now that they didnt had any real intentions of developing for the DC. Just look at the craptastic SDK they made for it, nothing like Katana. MS went to get some Know-How to make the Xbox, which is clear by just looking at the controller. Irony is that the 1st Xbox cost them $6 billion in loses, while they could've bought SEGA for little over $2B and keep the DC alive.
Of course, theres hope: the Wii. Things have changed, now nobody really cares which console is the most powerful, but which one is the most innovative. We could say that the DC is, therefore, a victim of its times.
Considering the DC had a wiimote-like controller on the works, if it were released today with that same $199 MSRP it would be far more succesful than it was back in the day.
Are people delusional enough to think that the DC was Sega's best console? A distant 2nd best to the Genesis, which remains my absolute favorite console of all time.

Knights, werewolves.. They already made so much stuff with Sonic.. a Star Wars crossover with Sonic as Han Solo wouldn't be so bad :P
