    This type of thing actually makes a huge difference in pediatric care. Putting a child at ease makes imaging them much faster and more effective.



    The more at ease a child is when being imaged the more likely that they will hold still meaning you will get a better image with fewer repeats which leads to also helping to lower the patient's radiation dose. Lowering dose in pediatric patients is especially important as the younger you are the more radio-sensitive your cells are.



    To aid in proper patient positioning the lights are often turned down quite a bit. Being in the Hospital is scary enough without going into a huge dimly lit room, placed on the hard slab of an x-ray table and being told to hold still while a stranger pokes, prods and moves the part of your body that is most injured. Anything that makes the patient more comfortable is a great asset.
