There's also a nagging, buzzing doubt in my head, in the region of my brain that entertains such ideas as a faked moon landing and the existence of Bigfoot. After all, rumor went around last month that this sucker was in production, and a steep price cut on the 80GB PS3 likely means retailers have been told to clear space for a new SKU.

So I am going to put this to the wisdom of the crowd. Is this a real PS3 slimline console? Or is it fake?

Arguments pro:
• You can see the ethernet and USB ports on it. Why would counterfeiters go to that kind of trouble?
• Logo looks legit enough.
• It's in the Philippines, where you can buy anything before it's available, such as Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Arguments con:
• Plugged-in-and-running footage or GTFO.
• Some clown's giving us the old shake-and-fake.
• It's in the Philippines, where you can buy anything before it's available, such as Flintstones Chewable Viagra.

Alright, vote!

Update:
Reader Carlo Q. weighs in with this piece of intel:

I can guarantee you that it is fake. That footage is (most likely) from a place called Greenhills Mall in the Philippines, which is known for selling crap/fake gadgets, as well as bootleg movies and other items.

<![CDATA[Is This *Really* a Boomerang Controller Mod?]]> Reader Wakka sent this one in — a purported boomerang PS3 controller mod that's getting love on a few boards and hack forums. But ... looking closely, did this guy really find a controller that already approximated the boom's shape and finish the rest of the job with Bondo? Back in January, we told you about a Chinese knockoff of the boomerang that was making the rounds at CES. Both pics are on the jump. You make the call!

<![CDATA[GTA IV Rumored Intro: Real or Fake?]]> Alright, well, this had me last night, but now I am not so sure. And while I was dithering over whether the video here is in fact real, or a fake, I missed out on an actual leak of an actual trailer for the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars. And it was taken down from YouTube before I could save the video.

But this has been up for a solid two days, Rockstar hasn't demanded it be taken down (could they? I dunno) and the comments on its YouTube page point out a zillion problems with it. But what do they know? It is time for Kotakopolis to pass judgment: Is this real or is this fake? You make the call! Vote after the jump.

Arguments Pro:
It's got a case!
Immigrant's Guide to Liberty City
I WANT TO BELIEVE

Arguments Con:
Convenient transition right as 360 boots
Gameplay or it's fake
Music sucks
Rockstar hasn't bothered to get YouTube to take it down
