The shakiness of the video could either prove it is fake by never giving you a good look, or prove that it is real because the video is so shaky from the guy having a total nerdgasm right there in the store.

I am actually suspecting a marketing-ploy. This MIGHT be in their plan to get us, the fans, to discuss about it so that the news spread that way, without making any actual announcements that might hinder PS3-sales.
I just don't think it is because why would Sony go with a matte finish? This Gen is all abouse the shine and luster, I mean seriously even the PSP has shine. This thing looks dull and something just seems off. Yes, there is shine on the sides and near where the disc drive is but I dunno. In the land of you can get everything first and a fair shake are knock offs it doesn't scream real.
I'll put money down that it's a PopStation3 Slim! And Ashens would be rolling in his grave, if he was dead.
After all, everything in the world needs to be made into a cheap plastic knock-off product that plays old hand held games I could get in the 80s for 2 bucks.
I gotta be honest. I think the product itself is real, just not out yet. This footage however makes me a sceptic. If you've got a PS3 slim and a video camera you'd think you could hold it steady for more than a millisecond so people could get a good view of it.
Seriously though the fact that it's not plugged in and working works against it too.
I vote that the product is real but the one in the video is a fake.
@zach a mac rack alack: There's no way in hell anyone is going to believe you. You don't get anyway near anything of this magnitude without an NDA and either you've just broken one, or you're full of s**t. Also, how the hell did you get to promote your own comment? Can stars do that?
@shufflemoomin: I find that sharing information about stuff that is not out yet tends to get this response, so I'll just stop sharing then. Glad that you enjoy disbelief.
@zach a mac rack alack: It's got nothing to do with enjoying disbelief. It's the fact that your mother is a fool who goes around breaking a legally binding NDA and has no place in the company. If she gets caught, she gets fired. You're just as stupid for coming here boasting about seeing something and letting the world know that your mother can't keep her mouth shut and putting her employment at risk. I wonder what she'd think of you posting this information publicly? Actually, if she doesn't care about her NDA, she likely doesn't care about this either.
Well according to someone on here whose mother works for Sony, it has already been shipped to their offices so of course someone on Sony could've gone through the trouble of getting a few to sell on the black market.
I trust the guy, because he seemed like he wasn't really trying to beat anyone in the information, and he mentioned it at two different times.
@ShadowOdin isn't american: Right, that would be me!
It's true I've seen the PS3 slim in my mother's office, and it's true that it looks a lot like the one in the video.
However, I'm pretty sure it hasn't been in full shipment to the offices, it was more a "show and tell this is what we're working on" kind of thing. As far as I know it's safely in a glass case in the secretary entrance.
So honestly, I don't know. Maybe it's real, maybe it's not. I can say it does look kind of like the one I saw, but thanks to the shakiness I can't tell to much. however I have never really heard of consoles getting black marketed. Much less so from sony. They have this pile of frikkin gold Playstation 1s that could probably go for hundreds if not thousands of bucks (they look devastatingly awesome) in the same office and not one has been stolen.
But then again, Philippines.
One thing I don't get is, though, I don't really know if the console has been shipped out to anywhere but sony headquarters (SCEA in foster city, SCEE in europe, Sony in Japan, etc), so how would someone in the Philippines get their hands on it but no one in other countries would? Doesn't make sense to me.
I voted "fake" but you guys can come to your own conclusions.
I'm also bitter because someone else has it before me, if it is real, so if there was a "I DON'T WANT TO BELIEVE" I'd vote for that too, but don't tell anyone.

@zach a mac rack alack: So, that answers my above comment. Your MOTHER is under NDA and doesn't understand what the hell it even is and doesn't stick to it. It wouldn't be a huge shock if your mother lost her job over breaking an NDA.
@zach a mac rack alack: Yup, I remember you.
And no, I didn't mean shipped in full. Just units for show, like the one you saw.
My suggestion is that you look at the logo in the video and tell us if it's the same as on the unit you saw. I think that is enough to tell since it's a new logo previously not seen other than with the PSP. Had it been bootlegged it would've have the new logo, and probably the old one.
The reason why it is there is because Sony have to have an office in that region too. SCEA, SCEE and SCEJ can't be their only offices.
@shufflemoomin: Would YOU fire someone for showing it to their son? Press is one thing, or someone with credibility. But someone's son? No-one is gonna care.
Hell, even developers broke words about PSP Go months in advance.
@ShadowOdin isn't american: I really can't tell. I wasn't paying too close attention to the logo when I saw so I wouldn't know. It does look like the logo from the kotaku photos that I saw, but you know, it could be anything.
@shufflemoomin: Well, if I'm breaking an NDA, by all means Sony can arrest me. However I guess they'll have to arrest every single other person who has leaked a single fact about the PS3 slim and every other product they make, which would includes pretty much... well... almost everyone on their workforce.
I'm just sharing what I know. If you don't want me to share, fine, I won't then.
@zach a mac rack alack: He's talking about your mother. YOU didn't really sign a contract about keeping quiet about it, though your mother most likely did.
@ShadowOdin isn't american: Well, I find it hard to believe they're gonna hunt people who tell their children about up and coming exciting sony stuff and fire them. Either way, I'll ask her about it.
while it looks real, how on earth would anyone get this out of a factory before Sony has even admitted that they're even in production yet?? Seems pretty unlikely. But then again, Sony could be holding them all in a warehouse and waiting for the perfect time to drop prices and throw this Slim out into stores... so maybe some have "gone missing". hmph. I have no doubt that the PS3 slim is real and its coming soon, but this video looks fake.
if you're gonna go through all the trouble to make a video, why not steady the camera and show each side, serial number and every bit of the sexy hardware?? and why not show us that it works? and why not, blah blah blah. yeah, video is fake, product is real- and hiding.
The nice thing is, you don't have to guess. It fails the Pulp Fiction test, therefore it is fake. And what is the Pulp Fiction test? It's pretty simple.

Also, if it really is in the Philippines, it's most likely fake. I've seen a PS2 there that looks exactly like a slim PS2 (even had the logo), but when I opened the disc drive, there was no laser. Instead, there was a slot for Famicom carts.
The reason it's shaky is because it was taken using a camera phone. I havent seen any knock off made anything like that, i mean this one looks pretty real to me.
Here's an interview with the said PS3 Slim seller
Here are the things he said:
* unit was bought from some dude who got the unit from the US.
* there are two units but only one unit was for sale (the one he got).
* it was sold to him because it cannot be modded (LOL).
* they tested a PS3 game (Unreal Tournament III) and it worked.
* they tested an unknown (not bootlegged) PS2 game from an unknown region, the PS3 detected the disc, it didn't work. SUCKS!
* hard drive slot is underneath when placed horizontally.
* PSU is internal.
* slim PS3 cannot be placed vertically without some sort of a stand unlike the fat one.
* he got it for 12K PhP.
* there was some sort of packaging but it's not a retail box.
* it came with the necessary cables and a DS3.
* he sold the unit to an indian fellow who has a game store in Bridgeway for 22K PhP.
* he said the indian dude was planning on creating a customized box for it (I guess for it to look like something that is being sold in retail).
* slim PS3 is almost the same size as the fat PS2.
* he's unaware of the firmware installed.
* it's possible for him to get another unit next month.
* when asked about any contact information of the dude that sold the unit to him, he declined giving it.
"Ordinarily it's not my policy to cave in to peer pressure like this, but ignoring the likely-fake shakycam video of a PS3 Slim hasn't slowed the tide of hey-d00ds tips we're getting about it."
You know, maybe the other readers here are like me and submit news "tips" to Kotaku because we like the site and want it to be successfull. Any time I think I might have something news worthy that hasn't yet made the rounds I submit it to tips@kotaku.com just in case I can help contribute to a site I enjoy visiting on a daily basis. It's disappointing to see you complain about readers sending in tips (even if they come in floods that are all about the same thing). Just post the tip as a rumor and the email submissions will slow I'm sure. Try not to knock your fan base in the process.
Doubt it's real, well the video anyway. That camera was shaking for no reason at all, it didn't seem like he was under pressure of being caught or anything, just shaking for the sake of shaking. But, who knows, perhaps he was quivering with excitement...
Oh, and i don't see why counterfeiters couldn't be stepping up their game by putting in non-working ethernet and USB ports. If it is fake, they clearly want people to believe....ugh, but then why go to such measures. This is so confusing.
Yeah sure, shake shake shake OMG PS3 SLIME shake shake shake. Fake vid, but slim may be real. Although I have my doubts there will ever be a PS3 slim until at least 5 years within its lifespan.
