    @Bondage_Zombie: I hate to say it, but I think they are dee oh ehn eee with Parasite Eve. Which, as someone who has both PE 1 and 2 sitting on their speaker beside the PS3, makes me very sad. #finalfantasyxiii

    I suspect SE will make the call depending on whether they meet their revenue forecasts for the financial year.

    If they are on pace to meet the estimates, then the International version gets pushed back into the next financial year.

    If they are not on pace to meet the estimates, then they'll move the game up into the current financial year to make sure they do meet the forecasts.

    So ultimately, if the game sells less than expected in Japan, we will see it out earlier in the West. But if the game sells as or better than expected in Japan then we will see it later in the West.

    @AncientUnknown1: That's probably a good theory, but there's also the 360 factor. Yes, I like my PS3 more than my 360, but I am honestly skeptical about this game coming out for 360, especially as early as April 2010.

    IF the 360 version is going to take longer to develop, that better not delay the PS3 version. #finalfantasyxiii

    @turkish101: I have both systems, and this game will be the first time I get a multi-platform game for the PS3 over the 360 version. I just have the feeling it will be a superior version being the lead the platform.

    @sonicsurge: Obviously not if he wants subtitles. Voice acting in games translated to english has been dodgy at best. The only game series to maintain quality through every translation that I can think of is MGS #finalfantasyxiii

    It would be a pleasant surprise, but I'm still not expecting this game any earlier than the summer. I wonder if they're figuring in final QA and little problems they'll run into in the final stretch of finalizing the international release. I'm sure hypothetically right now their work load is small enough to get it out by April, but I'm sure little things will pop up that will atleast push it into the summer. #finalfantasyxiii

    It's funny that things they could do to easily increase profits they seem unwilling or unable to do. You know Xenogears, FF8, FF9, FF7:CC on US PSN, stuff like that. #finalfantasyxiii

    2011 is a bit too early to release a new console. The only reason the 360 came out so soon was because they needed to make their second console more competitive but other than that it took about the 6-7th year or so for the next gen launch.
    Considering the three console manufacturers aren't really willing to make new hardware right now, they'd like to make this last a bit longer. Games aren't really being driven by graphics right now. It's not like the late 90s to early 2000s era where each PC game tries to outgraphic the other forcing people to buy newer machines. Developers have realized they'd like to get games to a wider audience so in order to do that they need to work with hardware that's optimized for components about 2 years old. So it'll take a while before the consoles look really dated.

    I think when it comes to sales the PS2 sort of got it right, they went for the traditional and existing gamers first and then focussed on the family and general consumer. The Wii is slowing down because they did it the other way around. I think they're trying to prove a point right now that they're there for people who do play video games a whole lot by trying to release more games for that market. Thing is that takes time, so I doubt they'd release a new console before that's acheived.
    Price cuts can drive sales only for items that are very high on the want list, if the price of something is average and the economic satisfaction it brings is almost at optimum there won't be ridiculous sales spikes.
    The early adopters for any 'electronic' product are those who are brand-fans/devotees, gadget-freaks and people with a disposable income. I doubt if any console has such rabid fanboys that are like the fans for Apple that they'd buy whatever overpriced devices they come up with because of the lifestyle choice that comes with it. A gaming home console isn't that mainstream, a portable console possibly.
    Considering the PS3 and 360 are basically eyeing the same market right now and trying to bite into Nintendo's market. I think it'll be at least 2012+ before we see a new console. This console generation is still barely 4 years old (if you count the 360's age otherwise it's barely 3).
