I honestly don't know who would want to play a game using the yaris. I play games to do things I could never do, driving a Yaris not one of those things.
NBA Jam Tournament Edition 2009 (Add in Barack Obama, John MCcain, Joe Bidden, Sarah Palin, Michael Jackson, Steve Ballmer, that Angry Gamer, - console exclusives - Marcus Fenix, Dom Santiago, Cole, Shepard, Alien Hominid, Niko, Yoda, etc - the list could go on and on. Each with their own signature moves.
WHY isn't this game on Xbox Live as it could EASILY have 4-Player Online Play (2 on 2), create your own team (matching up like Rock Band 2 online play).
Well, that is what you get for mixing 'The Thing' with "RC Pro Am-wanna be". Cars were meant to battle by racing, transforming into robots with weapons, shooting missiles and laying mines, ramming each other.
Did the game dev(s) play: NES RC Pro AM, PSOne's Twist Metal 1 or 2, 3DO's Crash and Burn (and for BAD reference Off World Interceptor) or even Burnout Revenge!?!? No disrespect meant, but this is where FREE = NOTHING and FREE QUALITY equals a lot!
I mean, if you could design your own car, add some pumped up 4x4 wheels, rockets (get rid of that Thing-like antennae) add an auto club that swings left or right and bash the cars on the left and right of the driver.
THEN Yaris would be a little fun. Oh, put some surprises in the tracks like more ramps, spring jumps with rocket booster icons (think Marble Blast Ultra - fun no matter what - only with cars).
I'd love to turn my Yaris into a Penny Racer with a Chrome Finish and Freeze Bombs and Homing Missiles. And announcer who'd actually announce what is happening (option to turn it off after a few races) would be nice!
Play the game, have some others not working on the game and play it for like 2 hour straight on their lunch break. If they do not play it, guess what - it ain't fun!
Yaris was a nice attempt, probably looked good on paper, unlike Lincoln - he was useful in person AND looks good on paper (the more the merrier!).
For what it's worth, I sent the following message to Gamescoreblog:
Hey there!
I'm sure you've heared that it's come to the public's Attention that Yaris is no longer available via XBLA. It may have been removed awhile ago, though the attention is now just being brought to the light.
I had a few questions, if possible. Aaron Greenburg mentioned in an interview with MTV Multiplayer*, that you would still be able to get delisted games via "Recommend this game to a friend" feature. Is that still in effect for this particular instance, or is this not considered a "delisting" in the traditional sense. It seems players that had this game prior, also lost their record of it in their download history for re-download, which has brought about the discussion: Is this game delisted, or completely removed due to some contractual agreement?
For those of us that have it, will we still be able to play it, or will the new Live coming out on the 19th remove it via some type of kill switch, similiar to the iphone's app removal system.
Quoting the MTV Multiplayer interview: "Also, I'd like to comment on the lack of notice. Greenburg also said in the MTV Multiplayer interview: Time will ultimately tell. Microsoft has not yet announced the first slate of games to be removed from the service. There will be as much as several months of notice. The games will not be removed without a heads-up, through Greenberg joked it might have helped them avoid some of the backlash targeted at Microsoft."
There was no notice.
Any information you can give to shed light on this, would be appreciated. I understand Yaris wasn't exactly a critically acclaimed game, but there were some promises stated here that appear to have been broken. Digital Distribution, for some of us, was a means to always have games available, despite a given shelf life for a product. It allowed us to get old games, that were no longer being printed. Many of us saw the XBLA as a way to get games years from now, and enjoy games well past this system's life and the removal of the Yaris game is seems to be counter to that belief.
While this game was absolutely TERRIBLE I still object to its removal. Why? Because NOTHING should be removed. EVER. What's the advantage of LOSING options?
That to me is the point of downloadable games. Available FOREVER. Otherwise what's the point of downloads vs. physical media? At least with physical media you can always go back to it. If you uninstall something, or miss the game when it first becomes available and its removed then that's it, game over, no hope of ever getting it back.
Seriously, how much space does it take to store this crappy game? Where's the benefit to consumers?
Alright, I didn't see this touched on by anyone, so here goes.
If you currently have Yaris, or any XBLA game for that matter, isn't there an option to "Tell a friend" about the game, and they get a prompt to download it?
Part of the delisting conversation that were going around back when Microsoft was threatening delisting to underperforming games, included the footnote that even though the game wouldn't show, you could still pass the link to buy/download the game to a friend if you had it yourself.
For those of us that enjoy achievements and Gamerscore, the quality of the game is somewhat irrelevant to the challenge of the achievements, so I'm sure that segement of players will still want this.
I don't understand all of the hate either. The game had decent gameplay, online co-op, relatively-easy-to-unlock achievements, interesting art direction, and best of all it was free. How many other Xbox Live Arcade games can claim the same thing? Right only one, Aegis Wing.
